Correction. He had to make sure the passenger was OK because his job was his main concern. It would be anyone's and rightfully so. As far as racing goes shit like this happens all the time. That waiver and liability form you signed before you even got the driver's briefing spelled out who is responsible for what. When something happens on the track the scope is aimed at the driver first and foremost. The driver knew it. Safety first. Are you OK, yup I just shit myself. OK that's great. At different times I did the Rusty Wallace ride along with driver Chase Austin and the solo, both at Iowa Speedway. Chase was a super guy and fast enough to get a taste of what it must be like at full race speed. The solo car was definitely capable of letting you feel the tires eat. When I thought I might be doing something wrong and tried a corner just a little differently the next thing in my earpiece was "46, you are WAY to high!" By that time I was well aware of it. I was busy hoping the tires had enough grip to keep me out of the turn 2 wall.

As a professional driver myself, I can generally tell you what happened. The driver wanted to get around the slower traffic and dove into the corner late AND hot. After a little juggling, and upon reaching the apex of the corner, gravity and physics did their thing and that was all she wrote!
@JameyCampbell_544 жыл бұрын
No.. no that wasn’t “all she wrote” He should’ve been able to catch the car, that car was wayyyy off the pace of even what an arca car runs at gateway “lap time”. You’re correct about him getting impatient and passing the slow car on the outside going into Turn 1. And he did get into the corner a little hot and the car seemed a loose but slow and loose like a worn out RR tire or way too much tire pressure in The right rear. He got crossed up and was too late trying to save the car, gravity and physics didn’t take over, he ran out of talent.
