These turned out so cute! I wanted to make an old fashioned metal bird cage but really didn't trust my skills, this has me rethinking my ability to do it now that I can see your techniques with wire and the glue/paints you use. I think the scale is perfect, I've seen mismatched pieces like these in coffee shops to give patrons choices for sitting and lounging, so it gives your shop even more authenticity. That should keep your bossy little shop contented!

Typing miniature Bentwood chair didn’t help as it just came up with pictures of the chair. Anyway your video popped up this morning and I thought I don’t believe it, Ara has done one (well sort of). Should have typed in bistro chair. I want to do a bentwood chair which of course is made from wood. I’m thinking I might need to buy some cane for the curved pieces. But you don’t know how much your video has helped me. So thank you very much. Cheers Robyn ❤😊

Awesome as always! For your "Rusted Through" look, try using a woodburning iron, or soldering iron with a flat tip. Alternatively, flatten out the end of a paper clip and heat it up with a lighter, candle, etc. until it just starts to glow and use it to burn through the seat. It shouldn't ignite the paper, but should burn a hole through it. Hope that helps! Keep up the great work

What a cute little set, Ara! I think I would be a nice dainty size for my mushroom house, only I'd better solder or use an instant epoxy as I have zero patience LOL. I'm also thinking about using my 'lace trim' paper punch for pressed metal detail. Thank you for the downloadable template. I feel that your hesitation about the armchair may be my fault, for saying that the furniture in 'Friends' is too big for the income per sq foot needed in most coffee shops. Your work is excellent & I always enjoy it, even when it's something I don't follow. It's you who has to be happy with it, not us. I'm even considering making one myself, as I now have the urge to see one of those little chairs up the tree & a druggie's sneakers hanging from the power lines (but we don't have overhead power lines here, so I may have to fudge that detail lol).
@BentleyHouseMinis6 жыл бұрын
Haha... yes I would love to see that project Joanne!!! No I don't think it's your fault at all... it's literally the first thing I thought when I put the furniture into the scene. Now that its been in there for a while it's making more sense in my head. Sometimes adding just 1 new thing can throw off the "balance" I think I see in my head (if that even exists lol) I need to learn to solder... it would be a great skill to have. But I have an irrational fear of fire and hot things which makes me hesitant on some skills.
@ClareCreationsAL6 жыл бұрын
Joanne Carroll I use a combination of hot glue and e6000 when I’m creating. Ara could have used hot glue then added the e6000 before she went to bed then painted the next day. Super glue will hold quickly too but you’ll still need a longer/stronger holding glue or solder. I LOVE using hot glue so I can continue my project!
@joannecarroll55046 жыл бұрын
Thank you Leslie. My projects are usually more workshop than craft room oriented, so I tend to have more hardware grade adhesives lying around than craft ones. I treated myself to a soldering iron this year & I'm probably just looking for an excuse to use it :) That said, I also treated myself to a cordless workshop glue gun, so I may just need to test that out, too. LOL
@joannecarroll55046 жыл бұрын
Ara, I think this form of art is probably no different to painting a canvas in that respect, canvas artists have to adjust for balance all the time. You'll know when it feels right for you.

I think they are both perfect!!! In some coffee shops they have those delicate set and some stuffed chairs too (did you watch Friends?). I think they are both perfect in size! I hate to add a but to anything I’ve said because my mama always said that when you say But it completely erases any good you said before it. But... 😬😬😬 Personally, I really think the table and chairs need holes. Especially the seats and edges. A wood burning tool will do great but you could also use a pen drill, Xacto, etc. Personally, I als feel the chairs and table are too perfect compared to the stuffed chair. Would the table top and chairs have survived that well compared to the stuffed chair? Maybe even a leg rusted in two or at least bent from a limb or something falling on it over the years when that tree was growing. I feel like a negative Nellie. BUT (lol) I LOVE it all!!!! I really do!!! Just offering suggestions. That i would ignore if I was as busy as you. Lol thank you so much as always for creatingon camera for us!!! You need to tear more paper so you can see the different looks you get. haha (paper crafter here, so I could picture it when you mentioned it) I think if you had poked a hole in the mat board, then tore it in different directions, you would have been able to distress it with your techniques and achieve the look you wanted for the rust. That being said, I absolutely LOVE what you did, and a rust hole isn't even necessary, but I understand wanting it. 💗💗💗

Forgot to comment on the size of the chairs. I think they look great because most arm chairs are big. Whereas the type of coffee bistro chairs are small. So with that in mind, I think you did great!! On a random note, do you use a special measuring scale or calculation for converting your projects down to 1/12th the scale? Thank you again for answering all of my random questions!!
@BentleyHouseMinis6 жыл бұрын
No problem! When I first started out I would measure everything in real life and then translate it down using a ruler that has inches. For example if a counter top is 3' high I would measure 3" on my ruler to make sure it was accurate. But once you've done it for years you can start eyeballing things. Having a 1:12 scale figure/doll also helps your brain to figure our if things looks right compared to a person. I hope that is helpful! Thanks!

You really need to get on a jewellery supply channel and order an inexpensive wire bending jig...you get little plastic ones I believe the company may be called Beadalon or something similar..anyway you can use them to standardise the wire bends and it takes a lot of the guesswork out.. especially if you wanted to do a bit of decoration in the furniture. I love this video without the jig though... I just wanted to mention it in case you were going to use wire for anything else... like say a brass bed....it makes it easier to get the symmetry.

Thank you Foxiepaws! I do have a jig that I got just a little bit before I made this video but I wanted to make it to where people who don't have a jig can still make the mini ;) But hopefully I can use the jig in videos in the future and now say "If you don't have a jig, refer to this video on ideas on how to still make this item".

Could you use your drill bits to drill through the cardboard to make holes and then distress?

I know this is an older video (love this project!) but where did you get your adorable little model?

Thank you! If you look up "figuarts pose-able drawing model" they should pop up for you ;) Be careful when purchasing because there are fakes out there that tend to be poor quality.

Where do you get the scale model? I'm researching to turn my toddler dollhouse into a goth mansion but I don't know the scale of the dollhouse to be able to make correct scale furniture . the scale model i assume would help me figure that out?

Awesome tutorial....I'm not good with wire projects... Your chairs look fabulous...the chair kinda looks to big...maybe it's just a little to wide..not really sure ..sorry.....but it still looks fantastic....tfs

Thank you Gloria! I am just getting started with wire... and I just have to take a big deep breath before starting because it can be frustrating!

fyi, Mat board is called Mount board in the UK. I love your work so i've recently subscribed. Do you have a tutorial on making the armchair, please ? It doesn't look out of scale at all to me.
@BentleyHouseMinis5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for letting me know... I will include that in future videos!! Thank you for subscribing Amanda! I don't have a tutorial for that particular arm chair but I do have one for a different armchair. You can find it here kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGiocpZvnJqBiac

To make the hole use sand paper or a dremel with a sanding disc

I always have problems using my E6000....it gets goopy and I’m not sure why. Does yours get that way?
@BentleyHouseMinis6 жыл бұрын
I have problems with it squeezing out of the tube non stop! Lol... as soon as I open the cap it starts flowing out like crazy. I haven't had it get goopy though. Sorry I can't help🤔 I do know that you can buy smaller tubes individual use tubes... so maybe that would help?
