1. there's a train station on campus with a direct line to nyc in 45 minutes. rutgers fans and alum from other big 10 schools use this to come to rutgers games. it's the closest college football team to nyc. 2. rutgers basketball is on the rise with the current #2 recruiting class 3. they're in a tough conference. they play Michigan, ohio state, penn state on a regular basis.

To be fair we have made 2 of the last 3 ncaa tournaments In basketball and we would have made it 3 of last 4 if not for covid. We also should have made it to last years tournament i boycotted it because of it. So in football we are bad but basketball we are ok. So you said we don’t do well in any major sports but basketball is the 2nd most popular sport so you are wrong there

Football drives the bus so that's what everyone talks about, but nearly every program is on the rise (the only exception being volleyball because Big Ten volleyball is nuts). I think we'll be in a great place in a few years. New baseball stadium, Jersey Mike's Arena renovations and Schiano's practice facility are all on the horizon. We've been playing catch up since we joined and the full revenue share will help. Go RU.

RU has brought tens of millions to each other B1G school. Rutgers is in the NYC metro area, 20 miles from Manhattan. That is 7.4 million TV sets. There are another 1.5 million or so in South Jersey. That is about 9 million TV sets. Have you ever been to Rutgers? All of the visitors have easy access to NYC. Many major schools are more than an hour from the closest airport, much less NYC. Is it really funny that without Rutgers, there would be no $7 to $8 billion contract. The networks thought that it was a very big deal to go from NYC to Chicago to LA. No NYC, no huge contract. Hey, it is only billions of dollars to the B1G, not a big deal. By the way, UConn would bring minimal money to the B1G, but apparently money is not relevant to your analysis.

Judging by the comments I see most others share my sentiment. You’re reporting is indeed as other have said very lazy. You fail to mention the Kyle flood and robbery scandal that really hurt Rutgers as an infant program in the big ten. Soccer just won the big ten, lax made final 4 two years ago, baseball set a program wins record 2 years ago, basketball is on the precipice of the number 1 recruiting class for 2024 and all the Olympic sports are good. Greg schiano has also made the football team competitive again. In 2020 they were competitive in every game except their 49-28 loss to Ohio state. In 2021 they were competing for a bowl game on the last day of the season, last year they took a step back but this season they seem to have taken two steps forward. Your video is 4 years too late dude. Edit: you also clearly don’t know how the tri state are works if you think Rutgers is far from New York City. It’s less than an hour drive (that’s not long for someone from here) and a 20-30 minute train ride. I can’t tell you how many student go out into the city to hang out on the weekends (and some on week nights 😬) . So yes visiting fans can indeed stay in the city and enjoy a game

Great video and valid points but Rutgers is hated on to much because of their football . Chris ash created a mess and Schiano is trying to build it back up . Our men’s soccer just won the b10 and our women’s soccer is also very good along with both lacrosse programs , field hockey , wrestling and baseball is on rise

Rutgers also hasn’t had a single season getting a full B1G share yet. They’ve made a ton of investments we’re just starting to see pay out. Not to mention there’s not much you can do when you play OSU, UM, MSU, and PSU every year so your ceiling is only really 8-4.

This has to be one of the worst videos about Rutgers sports I have ever seen. This guy has obviously never been to the campus and I wonder how many Big 10 campuses he has been to. Rutgers is closer by car to PSU and UMD than Minn. is to any Big Ten Campus. Ditto Nebraska and Iowa. OSU might be the most "isolated" campus. Or maybe PSU. New Brunswick is a 40 minute train ride to Penn Station, NY. You can actually see the NYC skyline from a third story window on the main Rutgers campus. Rutgers mens basketball has been a upper tier Big Ten performer for four years now. Rutgers mens soccer and womens soccer has been a winning program for years now. Ray Rice, Brian Leonard, Michael Burton, Kenny Britt, the brothers McCourty, Duron Harmon, Gay Brackett, Logan Ryan, Tyler Kroft, Clark Harris, Anthony Davis, Tom Savage, Isiah Pacheco, Sebastion Joseph have all played for RU in the past twenty-five years and had, or are having, significant NFL careers. The baseball team has now had a couple of winning season in a row just recently and had two players selected in the top ten rounds of the MLB draft just this summer. Mr. Adams is probably one of the many Syracuse University alums who hate Rutgers with a passion. Why not concentrate your efforts on the utter failures of Syracuse and Boston College in the ACC in both football and basketball. And Connecticut football???!!! The almost shut down their program a few years ago.

NJ born and bred here. Part of the problem is that most people inthe Northeast (NJ included) prefer NFL to pro. Rutgers is sitting pretty being in the NYC metro area while also being the big 10; tghere's just zero interest in Rutgers football even when theyre good

This is the real reason UMD and Rutgers don’t do well with fan support. Their are multiple pro teams right down the road and UMD and Rutgers have only had minimal success. UMD has the Commanders and Ravens while Rutgers has the Giants and Jets. Schools like Penn State, OSU is the only show in Columbus, Iowa and Nebraska all are the only show in town and are for a few hours and have amazing entertainments and fan bases. Rutgers and Maryland don’t have anywhere near that support at least with football

For Rutgers both the Giants and Jets are only 40 minutes away and the Eagles are an hour away. OSU and PSU can draw that many since there isn't as much competing for your sporting event dollars.

Underrated comment. There's not much of an NCAA culture in NJ. Sure, everyone follows the playoffs at the local sports bar, but almost no one who isn't a family member of a student or alumnus is excitedly buying tickets and planning their nights around regular season games. It's hard to compete when multiple NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, etc. teams are playing a straight 30 min train/subway ride away. You could argue it the other way, that there's no culture in the area because Rutgers never even pretended to invest in their brand and their program until recently, but ultimately it's supply and demand. When you're the only game in town within a 2 hour radius, the demand is going to drive investment in your program whether you like it or not. When you're overshadowed by pro teams all over the place, the demand isn't going to be there.

Most of upstate New York is more than a two-hour drive from New York City (where the NFL teams are actually in New Jersey) yet the only NFL team in New York is the Bills, in the far western part of the state bordering Canada. Yet large SUNY universities like Binghampton and Albany don't have athletic programs at the highest levels of Division 1 even though these universities are not close to New York City.

My favourite Rutgers memory is when they got trounced by Michigan 78-0 everyone, including all the Michigan fans in attendance cheered when Rutgers got their first first down late in the game, and the Rutgers band even started playing Hail to the Victors when Michigan scored. This feels like a video someone decided to make simply because they saw a news headline and decided to piggyback off of it without giving any independent thought or doing any substantive research (c'mon, we know that's what you did). Couple of points: 1) Princeton doesn't claim to be the birthplace of college football for a very simple reason: it's not. The game was held in New Brunswick, not in Princeton. 2) Rutgers and Maryland were added to bring in the NYC and DC markets. Like it or not, that has worked. In 2013, a full share of Big Ten revenue (per team) was $26M. In 2018, it was $52M. People can cry about it all they want, but ask the Big Ten (and the schools) if they care. 3) Since Rutgers has joined the Big Ten, it's won two national championships in wrestling and has had multiple All-Americans. Why is that never mentioned? 4) Rutgers women's soccer has made the College Cup (the soccer Final Four equivalent) twice since joining the Big Ten. Why is that never mentioned? 5) Rutgers teams have won multiple Big Ten championships since joining the conference. Why is that never mentioned? Look, I get it. Football "drives the bus" and currently, the team sucks. But people have got to stop acting like Rutgers as a whole has added no value since joining the conference. It's just not true. Stop being babies about it.

Lets be honest. A lot of people talk trash on Rutgers because of their football program. Overall, it is a great university. It is a good academic and research university located in a city with a lot of good restaurants. It is only an hour away from New York, Philly, and Atlantic City. Many Rutgers sports programs are on the rise, such as lacrosse, soccer, wrestling, rowing, and especially basketball. The only thing holding Rutgers back is football, everything else is better than half the Big Ten schools.
