What a lovely gesture. What happened to Ruth was an absolute travesty of justice

Ruth Ellis would’ve got minimal sentence today. Driven to the crime due extreme cruelty it seems. “Not in her right mind M’Lord” defence would be shouting. Fact that she was smiling as she approached the gallows proves her Mental Health was shattered. Leaving 2 young children behind. Sad stuff. Great post yet again Liam. Rest In Peace Ruth Ellis 🙏

She got her revenge on the man that brutally use to beat her up and she found a good man in her life but her brutal ex would not allow her to leave him. So she got her revenge on the man that tormented her beating her up regularly she was in her rights to shoot him she never denied or defended herself in court sadly she just expected her fate. R.I.P Ruth Ellis

We are related to Ruth Ellis by marriage and we live about 15 minutes from where she is buried. May she Rest Peacefully

Interestingly enough, Ruth was buried in this cemetery at night. A result of the prison service and her son keeping a low profile on the burial. When Holloway Prison was having building work carried out they needed to relocate 6 buried bodies. Out of the 6, Ruth was the only one with family members still alive and willing to organise a reburial. Ruth’s son was contacted by the prison service asking where he would like his mother to be reburied. Why did he choose this church yard you might ask? Well Ruth’s son first contacted Holy Trinity Church in Penn (where David Blakey) is buried, the ex partner she fatally shot. Ruths son wanted to follow Ruth’s wishes and bury them together. The Blakely family objected. So Ruths son buried her in the nearest churchyard to David Blakelys burial plot. A loving tribute to Ruth’s wishes I feel.

Also if anyone has wondered why the name Ruth Hornby was chosen on the original gravestone (the one first laid by her son) Hornby is not her maiden name or her married name. Neilson was her maiden name and Ellis was her married name. Andre, Ruth’s son used Ruth’s father’s surname that he was born with and later changed to Neilson (a stage name) as he was a musician. Ruth had never been named Ruth Hornby at any point in her life. Andre used the name Ruth Hornby as he wanted her graveside to be anonymous and not recognised. This final act from Andre is one that speaks of trying to protect his mother ❤
