I also grew up with venison as my parents could not afford to buy much meat and we had to go far with ferry and bus to reach the butchers. We were not farmers, but our uncle who owned the grounds saw to it that we had meat. The first time two guys came and dropped a whole deer on mums kitchen counter, she was quite wild eyed, she told me. But the guys were kind and came back and cut the deer a bit apart for her, and then she had a really good old fashioned cookbook to help her. This was in Norway in the 60ties. I enjoy most of your videos, thank you! One thing I cannot understand is using so much sugar in the food
@karend4733Ай бұрын
Salt and Sugar were both used as a means of preserving foods. Also, sugar cuts the acidity of the tomato and vinegar. That being said... adjust seasonings to your taste... maybe use 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, or 3/4... just make it to your own specific tastes.

Good morning. 💕 Every video I see of you amazes me. How much you do for your family is so inspiring. Your work ethic is something most people don’t have or can’t even comprehend. You remind me of my mother. She worked so hard in the home. Very little resting time. As a senior adult now, I know how my body feels and I know my mother had a lot of pain in her body like I do, and the fact that she still did all that she did, well, there are no words for the admiration I have for her. I remember her cooking big beautiful meals for everyone and then not eating anything, and she would say she wasn’t hungry right then , 🥺. I know now that she was just too tired or hurting too much to eat, because that’s exactly how I feel now. I wish I could have understood her more when she was alive. She never complained though. I think having a purpose of caring for others gave her joy. I know it does me. Have a blessed weekend!❤🙏

This video made me so happy. My family immigrated to Iowa in the 1800s, and much of our family still lives there. I'm in NC now because of the military, but seeing simple things like using wash basins and wash cloths brings me right back to grandma's. As I watched you add the ingredients, when you were about done I said to myself, "Aww, no mustard!" ... then it was like you read my mind and pulled it out. It's almost our family's recipe to a "T" but in a smaller quantity. I hope to be able to afford a pressure canner soon so I can preserve stuff like this. Love your channel... new subscriber!

Another great Saturday! BBQ beef is delicious but I have never canned it. I need to set goals for what products I need to learn more about in canning😁. Good to see your helpers😁

I know that you are a very busy mom and wife, but I love your videos and wish you had time to make more .

Love watching your videos. Your videos are so grounding in the presence of a world so unsafe and depressing.

I also watch you while I have my morning coffee. I have two grown kids and didn't do much canning when they were growing up. But I am enjoying more each year. I have learned so much from you. I especially love my canned green beans. I added the zinc, and they are beautiful.

I just love your videos. Your personality is a bonus along side learning how to prepare and have food stored at home. God bless.

I love watching your videos! I use your recipes all the time. I just recently made your big batch homemade egg noodles. I put them in bags and froze them after drying. I have a question about your awesome dipper. Where did you find a large metal one? I would love to have one like it. I use my roaster for canning too. I have made lots of stuff in it. Especially great for apple butter and chicken and beef bone broths. Keep up the great work sweetie. I am 75 years old and live alone since my hubby passed in 2008. I had a dog that I adopted from a shelter for nine years, but she recently passed away from heartworms. I missed her terribly. She slept with me every night for 9 years. A friend of mine who knew I was lonely without her just gave me a maltese poodle mix puppy. He is soooo precious. I am in North Carolina now but grew up in Ohio on a farm around Amish people, and lived just like you all do. That is one reason why I enjoy your videos so much because it reminds me of home. Take care dear, and God bless you and your great family! It looks like you got 14 quarts from 24. Pounds of meat. Is that correct?💜💜💜✝️✝️✝️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

You are such an amazing human, what a special gift you are to so many of us! I’m thankful to have you as a resource even though I’m in Oregon on the West Coast ❤

I used your method to can green beans with zinc. They look great! My first batch not so much since I used capsules and dumb me didn’t crunch them up first. Lesson learned.

Your sloppy joes look so good! One thing I do to avoid having to wash my jars both after emptying and again before using is to store them with the used lids on and throw them away when I take them off to use the jars again.
