The problem with these albums was in the days of vinyl, to skip an unbearable song - you had to get the needle out of the groove and then be something of a marksman to get it in the right place for the next good song. I don't think I ever heard the beginning of Black Sabbath's Turn To Stone for that reason!
@RuthlessMetalYT2 жыл бұрын

@l.jamesbarlow31372 жыл бұрын
I replaced all my cassettes with CD's. Now I have replaced all my CD's with vinyl. You think it was bad back in the day skipping a song the sound quality more than makes up for it. Today's hassle, and it really isn't because once again the quality of the vinyl experience over-rides any inconvenience, is that a large percentage of records that used to be 1 disc are now 2. So you have to flip the record twice and change the record. They make the grooves twice as wide and are able to fit more info than ever now in the groove. The Black album 30th Anniversary re-release sounds incredible. Pearl Jam "10" Redux is insane and every Pantera album on vinyl is the best you'll ever hear them sound. The first time you drop the needle on Cowboys From Hell & Dimebag rips in with that riff and Phil screams Ooooohhh Come on!! You will never want to listen to a CD again. The sound of a logarithm recreating a musical sound with a digital approximation is an abomination. It is not the sounds of a real world instrument. Just a a digitally encoded imposter spliced together thousands of times every second. Vinyl truly represents the music as it was meant to be heard. Besides live, vinyl is the only legitimate medium. Just MHO. I want people to understand what they are missing. Love that my stereo and vinyl don't offer to sell me things or spy on me. Every song is just our secret. I now pass the conch sorry if I bogarted a bit :)

The thing about Cold Lake that makes me give it only a 3 (on a scale of 0 to 10) is two many riffs sound alike in many of the songs, and I REALLY DESPISE Ollie Amberg's guitar playing, it's totally not in tune with any of the songs, loud and noisy, and honestly didn't make it any more metal sounding! I do, however, like They Were Eagles, Cherry Orchards and Juices Like Wine, all in a row too on the album!! :)

I genuinely like all these albums (except maybe The Pack Is Back). I like when bands change their style or lineups, as long as the songwriting is still great. I listen to music with an open mind. Admittedly I was born in the 90's, so I didn't experience when these albums came out, so I had no expectations. I listen to these albums for what they are. Nothing wrong with an experiment as long as it pays off. I also LOVE Glam/Pop Metal/AOR/Melodic Metal/Rock, so commerciality doesn't bother me as long as it's not cringy, like Quiet Riot's QR III album or Raven's Hyperactive off of The Pack Is Back. Just my two cents.

I've always wondered what the hell happened to Judas priest between Defenders of the faith and turbo.In two years time the went from making one of the best heavy metal albums ever made to an album that's total crap,it was so bad I've never even listened to ram it down.Painkiller has a few good songs but still doesn't compare to British steel, screaming for vengeance or DOTF.The only album I listened to and liked that came out after DOTF was jugulator and that was a great album but Judas priests greatest years ended sometime in 1985 before turbo came out.
@mybluguitar60512 жыл бұрын
There's actually a fascinating story about what happened. Long story short, Judas Priest got fucked over by the record company. Turbo was their tenth album and they wanted to do something special for the 10th album. At that point, they realized they had two different types of fanbases: one fanbase loving the commercial side (British Steele and Point of Entry) and another fanbase loving the speed metal side (Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith). They wanted to initially make a double album called Twin Turbos where the first half would be commercial (Turbo based songs) and the second half to be speed metal (Ram it Down based songs). The studio would not let them and made them release two albums back to back. Not only that, but the studios forced them to make sure the albums were full length. So if it sounds like both Turbo and Ram it Down have songs that were written in a half assed way, it's because they were. They were contractually obligated to do so.
@1chiTheKiller2 жыл бұрын
Listen to Ram It Down but skip Johnny B Goode. That song is awful. The rest of the album is like half Defenders Of The Faith, half Painkiller. It's awesome.

Seventh Star is an example of when you need to make a decision and not try to go 2 ways at once. Iommi recorded it as a solo album, the label wanted a Sabbath album, but they compromised and went both ways at once, calling it a Black Sabbath album with 'featuring Tony Iommi' and having his picture on the cover, like you would with a solo album. They should have had different art and no 'featuring' since WTF does that even mean when he's the only continuous member?
@RuthlessMetalYT2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there were some weird decisions made that hurt the band a bit. It was like it was black sabbath but not worthy of the tag black sabbath. strange.

Yeah because Ray was selfish and screwed over his band mates in Badlands for his actions. So all the record labels stripped them of all royalties, and album releases with Ray's name on it. That's most likely why it's so hard to find rare albums.

It's never been officially confirmed, but rumor has it that the women Gillen infected all have families who sued the record labels that released anything with Gillen performing. So basically the record labels would have to pay royalties to the families, or gain permission from the families, if they were to sell anything with Gillen on it. The labels have chosen to just avoid re-releasing anything with Gillen on it.
@ryanjacobson25082 жыл бұрын
@@paulburrows7908 The royalties went to the victim's families, right? I don't know if it ever was officially confirmed but that's a strong possibility and also explains why no label will re-release any Gillen stuff. They don't want to pay the families more money or get sued by them again.
