KK is a monster guitarist! Sure, he’s 1000 times sloppier than Glenn, but KK really wrote some of the best songs and solos of the time (and he was probably the first metal player to get really aggressive with the whammy bar)

I would like to dedicate this video to the memory of my brother, Taso Zioulas, who passed away one year ago yesterday. Thanks to him, our record collection during the '70s included many albums that feature all of these guitarists (except Randy Rhoads and Gary Moore who became known to us by 1981). These works served as a major influence to me when I started playing guitar in 1980, and my continued fascination with hard rock and heavy metal was set in stone. Thanks for highlighting these guitarists Jim!

Very cool that you showed Frank Marino after Eddie Van Halen. I finally saw EVH in 88 at Monsters of Rock. And while he was doing his solo I couldn't help but think I'd rather be seeing and hearing Frank. Yes, EVH did the finger tapping thing which he deserves a legacy for. But for those who did not see Frank. Whoa. He captured youthful energy like no other. Just listen to Ain't Dead Yet and you'll hear what I mean. It is fast but totally coherent...to the limit without it being speed metal and with feeling. And Uli Jon Roth and Michael. Yeah. Nod to all of the rest most of who I saw. But those three and Blackmore had the added X ingredient. Guitar wizards but with soul and feeling. Thanks for the post.

Oh! The good ole days of learning guitar and shreading it out with a cassette tape and learning mostly by ear and repetitave practice. First off, this is a great list and i wanna say awesome job to Ruthless Metal. I being one of the countless many who didnt make the list as many of us had other paths to travel. I my self studied as many guitarists as i possibly could at age 15 which would have been around 83 or 84. I won the GIT award for youngest soloist but my parents wouldnt let me go to LA to persue that dream so i made it happen for myself in my own hometown of brookhaven miss. I will say there were many who didnt make it to be famous but i did jam with al of the best in my area. There were so many amazing guitarists in that day so cheers to all the guys who played but never got that chance to be famous. Guitar isnt just a hobby, its more than a talent, its a lifestyle. So God bless all who are still playing and living that dream of guitarist. One day we will All be playing that Great Big Gig in the sky. 🙏❤🙏

With as many great guitarists as there have been over the years, it's easy to overlook some of them. One of those was Manny Charlton of Nazareth, who did the slide part on love hurts. Nazareth were pretty heavy,as was Mick Ralphs from Bad Company, and, while technically not a metal band,Albert Collins and Gary Rossington from Lynyrd Skynyrd could both be heavy and even shred a little. "Saturday night special" rocked hard.

A completely incorrect statement. Out of 20 plus Santana studio albums, Neal Schon only played in no more than 2….and aallll the way back in 1971 (Santana III) and Caravanserai 1972. And he wasn’t part of the original band that were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in 1998.
