As of today (8/31/23) pure silver is $0.8/g, and the platinum Blue-Eyes weighed about 22g on average. Assuming this Dark Magician is a similar weight means the melt value of this card is about $17.60. Also, most of the Platinum Blue Eyes had scratches on them from the factory. You can see the scratches right through the acrylic display, so grading these is just crazy. Personally I would not buy this product.

This stuff is just cardboard with marketing behind it. It's almost like legalised gambling for children. The fact that children (and adults) build such an addiction hoping for a hit, whilst carelessly throwing money away doesn't sit with me. When your older, you got bills and what not to pay. This stuff is best kept as a controlled healthy hobby. I kinda find the model a bit unethical, but how can you blame the sellers if the buyers are so willing.

This is a copy pasta of my comment for comments like this! 1916 d mercury dime. Made of 90% constitutional silver and only 2.25 grams of silver content. Weighing 2.5 grams total is in worn but legible condition is worth $1100 on average! $30k in pristine condition! So nice try but you lot that use this as an example are clearly leaving out the part that makes these things far more valuable, the number of minted and or printed! Loved the video, super compelling. Part of what allowed me to get back into yugioh as deep as I have is that when compared to pokemon and magic there's less hype and it's somewhat realistic to collect some of the bigger cards. I think that's going to work against it for these sort of products. The amount of people that can drop 1000-1500 on a moments notice are already super slim and then factor in this being a new product that doesn't have any nostalgia associated with it other than the fact the dark magician is printed on it. If I had that sort of money I'd be putting it into old booster boxes or the original versions of the cards, obviously because they mean something to me and are way more special but also just because they seem much safer as an "investment" of that money. Those cards will always mean something to a lot of people and will only become more rare with time. That said, I plan on keeping every card I buy for the rest of my life for the most part so none of that matters to me lol

Yeah my friend and I were talking about this yesterday when we saw it announced and both very quickly decided to dodge this one and we've both got like the pot collection and briefcase on order. We even looked at the blue-eyes prices and stuff but those that are up for sale at $2k aren't actually getting bought they're just sitting there at that price gathering dust so overall just feels like a big nope.

So I did buy the Plat Series Blue Eyes upon release. I had it listed and it sold 2 days before it even arrived to my house for 3800$ after eBay fees and shipping I think I pocketed around 3150$ which is still 315% profit but I agree wholeheartedly that dark magician will definitely not be as hype as the Blue Eyes especially in the market we currently are in. I agree with Rux prediction of averaging around 1500-1750$ for resale price

im someone who is generally really critical of overpriced collectibles and speculating on sealed/psa graded cards, games etc. as i think it sucks a lot of the fun out of collecting, which is just appreciating the things you collect for what they are, not their monetary value. However in the case of something like this where it is specifically meant to be rare and limited and pretty much nothing else, and the fact its made of silver, i can at least partially understand it, and so im not totally surprised to see its appreciated in value. still not something id ever invest money into, but if you are fabulously wealthy and really like yugioh it'd be kind of cool to have hung up on the wall i suppose

Yeah Wizards certainly made more money. 60 cards in one pack is basically a structure deck, which can be manufactured in under 10 dollars. The silver will cost money to melt, cast and apply card image and text. I don't know if the top layer or a metal coating, but as a Material Scientist I'm sure that finishing the card will cost more too. Still tons of mark up though. Probably around 50 to 100 dollars to make card (plus equipment set up costs) but will still be making a good several hundred dollars profit at least.
