Mad FL or something sent me cards not in a top loader but wrapped in hard paper. They also weren't in a sleeve but instead a piece of tape to ensure they don't slide out of the hard paper. Left them a neutral review for it arriving without damage but could easily have been damaged. They sent me a request to change it, and after not responding, they blocked me from buying from them 😂.

Mandatory viewing for TCG Player sellers! Check condition (both sides) before listing, and quit it with the tape addiction, and you'll be ahead of most sellers. Funny that one of the sellers in this video sold me something that was a long way from near-mint. I've had to do a bunch of returns lately!

Tape is necessary typically, because you have to close the opening. Even if you also put the toploader in the team bag, if the card falls out, it can be damaged. However, if you use Masking Tape, it's actually perfectly fine, as it's easier to take out.

TCGPlayer is great for competition. Mid for pristine collecting. Got a NM Starlight and it's trimming was unbelievably horrendous, but I mean, it was NM. Pack to Sleeve I bet.

You need to contact tcgplayer about it. They stand behind the listed condition and when someone sends the wrong condition it reflects on the entire platform. Apparently they throw their weight at the vendors because suddenly otherwise silent vendors start sending messages of apology and sometimes offer free cards on top of a replacement with free shipping.

It’s funny seeing some of these sellers that I have had issues with on here. The Cow’s House blocked me for requesting a refund on a $3 card that was supposed to be NM but was HP. And I have a blacklist of sellers in my head that I will never buy from and thecardstand was the first one on that list. I never buy from sellers that have like 25000+ sales anymore because a lot of the big stores don’t actually check the cards and at least 75% of the time the card quality is bad.

I think it’s really hard to compare tcg player conditions to conditions from a collector’s perspective, because the market is overwhelmingly PLAYERS of these card games, so night beams with the light scratches are a great example of what many would consider NM as a player (as I imagine those players don’t even LOOK at the back of the cards). That said, I definitely wish everyone used the same collector’s scale so that situations like this could be avoided. Another fun video nonetheless! On that note… LMAO WHAT WAS THAT FIBER JAR

Honestly this is the main reason I shop for singles on eBay specifically. The sellers usually have detailed pictures of the cards so you can see what you're buying before you spend the money. Plus, a lot of sellers are quick to respond and answer any questions you may have. TCG player seems kind of risky to me.

If you're looking to buy expensive cards, shop around the sellers. For higher rarities like Ultimate Rares, I'd definitely be very wary of the big sellers with like 25k+ sales.

As someone who sells and has sold cards online (super casually but still) a lot of this packing makes my buttcheeks clench. Sleeve, into a toploader, small piece of paper to seal the opening of the toploader, sandwiched between cardboard and in a plastic baggie. Foolproof. Edit: And watching a bit more, this really makes me appreciate the sellers I've picked stuff up from on eBay. How do you sell a card that has a star on the back in permanent marker like that? Man, it's something I think I'll just never understand. Like, my first thought when someone complains about the condition of a card by looking at the back is "Well... just put it in a sleeve where you can't see the back, the front is what's important." And then I realize that most of the people aren't even going to use those cards, and that to someone who seeks to buy cards as investments rather than as a hobby, that kind of stuff actually does matter. It's just strange to me; I know I could never be a collector.

Tcgplayer is a mixed bag, that star is probably the most agregious NM I have seen from an online seller. On the other hand I have ordered cards in Damaged/HP that have come out LP/Misprint. Its always wild to me how much sellers vary in quality.

quite honestly the way they ship for TCGplayer direct may seem like it could cause issues but as someone who has ordered quite a bit of direct, I've never had a problem with the conditioning and its nice knowing they check the cards before they're sent to prevent bad listings pertaining to condition. I however, cannot speak for others though and maybe they've had a bad experience. I'd definitely take TCGplayer direct though, it'll make everything easier in the end if a card does show up not matching the description (being damaged in transit) I also believe the big envelope also helps them be "non-machinable" further preventing possible damage.

I think this video is the best video I have seen in a while. Going through your purchased cards and buying NM and they arrive not in that condition is absolutely frustrating. If you are selling cards, take the time to package them properly and make sure the card you sold is actually in the condition you had put it up for. People need to be educated the difference between NM and LP/MOD. People dont use their brains and just throw it in an envelope and send it thinking all is good. Sellers have a standard that isn't being upheld and just ruins the experience!

I’ve had similar experiences with tcg but nothing as bad as what you got. Maybe a couple scratches and some scuffing. That star is just insane. I sell my cards in a penny sleeve then a normal sleeve so if it falls out it’s protected and then in a top loader. I do tape it because I’ve received a card where it fell out and kinda dinged the top but I suppose if double sleeve that probably won’t happen.

Maaaan... that Fiber Jar was MESSED UP. Some of the "near mint" conditions are awful honestly. That's why I don't feel like buying collectible cards in TCGPlayer or Troll and Toad... it can't be really trusted. Mosf of them were quite nice though, so it was a nice bunch of varied cards! I loved that ulti Catastor, it looked clean and beautiful.
