A very subtle but powerful show of might from Ruyi. Promoting Jia to Noble Consort is a reminder that Ruyi is empress now and can take your title as easily as she has given it. Leaving Jia kneeling for a moment while she chats to Noble Consort Chun is also a reminder that Ruyi is in control of the harem now. The earring bit was a little more brutal, but apparently, that’s all Jia understands. Ruyi had to speak to her in her own language. Too bad she still didn’t get it.
