Oddly enough, inhaling/ consuming too much mugwort will make you hallucinate, which is probably why she’s seeing illusions when no one else sees them. Ruyi took advantage of this and took the cake for the win. Edit: depending on translation of the herb they used, they also may have used wormwood, which is a stronger hallucinogenic than common mugwort is. Regardless, the fact the she drank “mugwort wine” is quite literally consuming absinthe. Both help calm the nerves but too much will make you hallucinate.

@@nmjt86 the best part is that Ruyi didn’t have to do anything. Gao Gui Fei is prescribed mugwort as part of Chinese traditional medicine to treat her “coldness”; it’s said to be “warming”.
