I purchased this same battery in March of this year. Have used it exclusively in my EGO Mower, Leaf Blower and hedge Trimmer the entire summer in order to "Save" my more expensive EGO batteries which I've used on several occasions in my 3000w Nexus Power Station during blackouts. While the Nexus power station doesn't recognize or see the Ruzit, it works fine in all the EGO hand tools and the 150w inverter.

excellent info - would love to see a test of currently availble off-brand Ego Batteries on Amazon. Names are always changing, and lately seems like there's either 5Ah for ~$110 or a few 9Ah for ~$225. However can't find any load testing data on the "9aH" ones - some reviews say they're actually more like 5Ah. Anyway thanks for the great vids!

Thanks for this! I've had 4 EGO batteries: a 2.5AH that came with a string trimmer, a 5AH that came with a mower (both in April 2017), a 5AH that came with a leaf blower, and a newer 5AH that EGO provided under warranty for the first 5AH. The 2.5 is currently non-functioning and out of warranty. So, of four batteries, two have died--one under warranty one out of warranty. I'm not sure what my opinion is of EGO quality at this point. The warranty replacement, being the newer style has the charge level indicator, and it's a bit quirky. Will stop multiple times while charged. I have to take it out of the mower, then plug it back in, after which sometimes it's OK for a while and sometimes I have to remove and reconnect again. The older 5AH works with no problem. Anyway at this point I am curious about aftermarket, so this video is encouraging. I know aftermarket is a risk. OTOH, I have a battery powered Hoover upright vac that has gone through two expensive Hoover brand batteries and now has an aftermarket that has performed and lasted better than the Hoover brand batteries. My luck with aftermarket camera batteries is not as good compared with Canon brand. BTW, my 2.5AH EGO is available to anyone who wants it enough to pay for shipping from Houston.
@ThriftyToolShed3 жыл бұрын
Yes the aftermarket is encouraging to me as well, as atleast a option. Maybe not always the best option, but non the less another. Sometimes it's better to bundle packs with new tool purchases to save on pack costs. Thanks for your comment. I will take the pack for shipping cost of the cost does not exceed $20 to Augusta, Ga 30907. Just to be fair these packs will sale on eBay for more than the shipping costs at times if you rather do that it would be best for you!

@@mattlawton4715 I have had no issues with either this 5ah pack or the 6ah pack more recently reviewed. The 5ah pack I bought myself to test because it was interesting. The 6ah I was blessed with by the company sending it to me to review. I like them them both just fine. The 6ah actually surpassed the 6ah discharge test as shown in that video so I am really surprised by it. I also have not used it as long at this point. I would honestly say for the money they are worth it. I also will say that consider if you wish to buy another tool in the future! As mentioned before, if you buy a combo with battery it's way cheaper than buying the packs separately. So I would buy a tool and put another say $100 with it as a combo to get a 5ah pack with it and that's the cheapest way to go. If you are dead set on buying a pack straight out, I personally like the option of the 5ah or 6ah packs the AMZ company. One other thing to mention, I believe the 6ah pack will work with Nexus power station according to AMZ rep and the 5ah will not? Best of luck to ya!

@danforrest6440 Yeah, I don't know exactly how similar the are, but the ones I looked at look are similar and the newer ones seems to even have the 5 segments around the pushbutton a lot like the 3rd gen EGO packs. I tried my best a few years ago to get a lot of the BMS boards from the aftrrmarket suppliers, but no luck. They would not even sell me a lot of 100 at the time. So many China manufacturers knocking these off now. Surely one of them will eventually give in and offer some similar to the M18 and makita style boards on eBay...😂

I actually have not worked on any 7.5ah packs yet. So far just the 2.5ah,4ah, and the 5ah. The 5ah BMS board may work, but I am not sure if it is exactly the same. Where should we store our EGO batteries? I keep mine inside the house because of the constant temperature, but maybe that’s too big a risk?
@ThriftyToolShed Жыл бұрын
Some people do keep them inside the house to keep them temperature controlled. I agree with you about the risk. They are a lot like having gasoline inside without the fumes. It is a lot of energy density if something goes wrong for sure. I live in the south and it does not get severe cold, but I feel the summer heat may be worse on them though. I know it's better for the packs to be temperature controlled and not fully charged when stores either, but I like having mine ready to go when I can. So I don't have optimum storage conditions in my garage, but it's been ok for all my batteries so far. I have had many lithium batteries last me over 12 years so my storage conditions are still within good reason. If you do have a good way to store them safely in a temperature controlled area it would be better for sure especially if your climate is worse than mine. For me the risk isn't worth it, I would rather not store my thousands of Ah of packs inside the house where we sleep.

FORCED BALANCE. Is there a way to force balance a pack? I've got some 7.5s that don't charge completely. And I'm interested in the connector..and the test fixture. Where'd those come from?
@ThriftyToolShed2 жыл бұрын
We can charge the cells individually with a CC, CV power supply and that would force balance. I would disconnect the BMS board before charging individually especially with mains connected PS. Also if a pack gets out of balance typically it's a real cause like some cells capacity is reduced and not able to keep up with the others in series. I have links in the video description for example load tester and connector. I will also include the below suggestions as the Load tester has an updated and better design and it is more than one choice for the connectors some high current rated and some much lower. amzn.to/3Vl6fyC amzn.to/3OyHlJB amzn.to/3VrAd45

I try to simply show it for people to make their own decision and mine are still working great so far, but if any issue arises I will share in the video comment as an update! I bought a compatible battery last fall charged and used it once. Charged and put it up until March checked it . Used it for less than 5 minutes it started flashing red. Put on the charger it blinked green then went red and stopped the charger. I notified Ruizit they send me video of just unplugging and replug terminals on the face of the battery. To no avail they wouldn't give me a full refund. I was told to order another and they would give me a 20% discount. I sent it back and Amazon sent me my money back minus 20% restocking fee. @ThriftyToolShed Жыл бұрын
I have tried these on the CH2100 and the Rapid charger as well with no issue charging. Both of the packs I have shared on my channel, this one and the 6000mah in another video seem to have a cloned BMS board. That is what was impressive is they seemed to work seamlessly with all the EGO tools and chargers that I have. Since EGO uses communication between the two I was very surprised at how well they were able to get these to work. I don't know if something is different about the newer charger or not. If not I wonder if the board inside has been changed or perhaps not even made by the same manufacturer any longer? It was just one manufacturer of these to start with and now it is a bunch of different ones online with a slightly different version or color. The two I looked at and disassembled had a basically cloned bms board with evidently a microcontroller with a copied program from the EGO BMS.

@@ThriftyToolShed Then maybe the newer chargers have a smart chip to identify "genuine" EGO batteries? Thanks for the info, I will order a CH2100 charger and see if that makes the difference, because as far as I know, there isn't a "generic" version of the chargers. :)

The blower, charger, and battery was $70 more than the battery alone. I already had a lighter weight 18v Ryobi, but I figured "why not?" The blower is really good, and the battery saves me having to stop to recharge my mower battery or even run it all the way down, which one school says that is bad for the battery.

In the original video I did mention that buying the EGO packs in a combo kit is the best deal on packs for sure. I even shared my own personal example a few years ago. Some things have changed a little and it's many more manufacturers of the aftermarket packs now. Many are available as individual packs and are much cheaper than buying EGO packs straight out apples to apples. Love them or hate them more options for replacement packs is good for the future of available packs, but again the EGO combo kits are the best way!
