I have a small 20 foot travel trailer with the square feet on the electric levelers. I was very happy to find out that they make Snap Pads for that style too. They make a huge difference and you’re right…they look good!!

I was getting errors consistently and have gone through this multiple times. When I downloaded the LCI app and read through the GC3 instructions several times I finally figured out that my issue was not being within 2° of level before hitting the auto-level button. Super easy to get within 2° manually just by using the lights on the button pad ensuring the center light is green before hitting auto-level. Once I started this process… no more errors and auto-level has been successful every time!

Your videos are so helpful, JD! Also be sure and check that your battery isn’t below LCI’s recommended voltage. Another common cause for errors. This is a great reason to opt for the new roof mounted solar panel options ;)

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have about lost my mind trying to fix my GC3 system. Also nowhere on earth have I ever seen something tell me how to lower the Middle jacks. I thought was not possible. I have had to take my camper in 3 times to have leveling system worked on and works one or two times or so then errors out again. Have maybe been able to actually use 2 times in the 4 years had the camper. Followed LCIs instructions 3-4 times and never worked. Now realize gotta do the 6 in down thing, that is a great help! Also now know how to at least lower the middle jacks so can at least touch them to the ground to better stabilize the fifth wheel anyway. Great video as always and very helpful!!!!

I am glad you pointed out that the jacks were 12 tons. RVers need to pay attention to weight limits. Knew a guy who had landing gear issues and used a jack stand temporarily to relocate it. But then he left the rig on the jack stands in storage. He had a three axle toy hauler. Not sure the rating on the stands but they were from Home Depot and after he used them for the third relocation, one of them broke down and the rig landed in the ground. No one hurt but the RV. You should always go more than. Impact or “jerking” forces can far exceed a steady force.

We had this LCI ground control 4 pt system on our toyhauler, and the biggest problem was the jacks drawing the battery voltage down so far it would shut off the system, or cause an out of throw error almost every time. So I would have to do this little dance of retracting the jacks to reset the system almost every time. And the sites werent terribly unlevel to begin with. Your batteries would have to be in absolute peak condition at all times to use this system and if you were using lead acid deep cycles... I tried 6v as well, you would need to put new fresh batteries in every other year. It became easier to not use the auto leveler.

I just upgraded to a 5th wheel and it’s the first time I’ve had auto leveling. After I got it home and went to hook up for the first time, I got that error. Mine is a 4 point and what I did was extend all the legs till they hit the ground, then auto retract. Fixed me right up. And for those curious, we got the Keystone Sprinter 30RL.

Not sure why you needed jackstands? Why not retract your landing gear all the way without jackstands? With the sliders in the landing gear extended your jacks could retract without any issue of the trailer contacting the ground. I have done this same procedure without jack stands without issue. Just curious why jacks stands?

Guess I am a dummy. Watched again and still don't get it. You can retract all the way and the trailer will not hit the ground. The landing gear has sliders inside that can be extended farther allowing retraction all the way and the trailer nose would never contact the ground. Seems safer than jack stands.

There are other hardware stores out there. I've watched a few videos and you say you ordered this off Amazon, I'm thinking to myself I know you could have just ran down the road and picked it up from a hardware store. Is it really important to protect the *bottom* of a landing gear foot from scratches? These things also add softness to your landing gear, which is the opposite of what you want to reduce coach shake when set up. Seems like a solution is search of a problem.
@dennisholmgren9302
@dennisholmgren9302 3 жыл бұрын
I have them. The coach shakes with the Ground Control system as installed when people walk around. The Snap Pads reduce that alot. The system levels, but there is still alot of mass being supported by the the trailer wheels. I can attest that these are well worth the money. I've been camping before and after. With the Snap Pads and MORryde steps, it is solid. To use a Southern idiom, they are "better than sliced bread." I used the Quick Connect steps rather than the StepAbove because my storage unit is fully enclosed and I can't deploy the StepAbove when it is stored due to a lack of side clearance. They are a PITA to stow, but are worth it. I am going to fabricate an under-frame storage solution for them.

We have the same system on ours. I've had errors pop up a few times-- usually at a challenging site. The Ground Control system uses Hall effect sensors to track how far the legs are extended. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hall_effect_sensor. Its always better to understand the why to get to the how when diagnosing and fixing stuff rather than relying on solutions in a vacuum. Sometimes, the system gets confused (especially if Autolevel has failed). In that case, running all of the legs up usually fixes it, as it is a calibration reset. I had the same problem this weekend. The USACE site we were at had great views of the lake (we were on it), but the sites were not level. The front jacks were retracted to the point where the spare tire was almost sitting on the ground and the rear bumper was at chest level. We still had a list after 2 packs of leveling blocks under the back legs. I didn't clear the fault and manually leveled it the best I could. When I ran the jacks all the way up, the fault didn't clear on a couple of the legs. This results in a lot of beeping and a reduction of the automated functionality. When I got to storage, which is level, I had an "oh sh** moment" and then realized the issue with calibration. To clear the problem, I ran the jacks down a few inches and retracted them again. That reset the system. I was then able to use the Ground Front command to extend the front jacks and disconnected. I ran Autolevel from the fully retracted position and it worked fine. I have the Snap Pads and they are great. One of the best cheap RV purchases. BTW, good comment on the jack stands. I think I'll get a few to carry with me. That will help when leveling raises any of the wheels (which isn't supposed to happen, but does). Also, I have the FlexAir pin box, so I have to raise it further when it is grounded to relieve the force from the back of the truck or the pin box extends rather violently when I disconnect due to the airbag extending. I have an F450 and about 3.8K pounds of pin weight with the generator and W/D combo. I would rather have the jack stands for troubleshooting. As always, you videos are great. As a side note, the one government function that seems to work well are the campgrounds. The Army Corps of Engineers sites are usually great. Down where you live, Nueces County has done well with Padre Balli and I.B. Magee. I've stayed at Balli and will visit Magee in the near future.

Great video, hopefully I'll never need to do it lol. What would you think is the max extension for the front jacks. Reason I ask is our driveway is sloped somewhat and currently I'm using a 2x12 pad and 2 courses of 4x6 wood blocking for the legs to rest on but I still have the extensions out about 2/3's and the actual jack is still extending about 14, maybe 16", the 5th wheel is stable but dont want to extend them to the point of them becoming weak.

Well it happen to us, lo,l. Long story short we had a RR jack error and dealer said it was a bad jack, almost a year later our parts were in, they replaced it (and never checked for function after install) we got home and jack still didnt work. After some more research on my part found the positive wire on the Molux or Molex connector was not secure and the wire was not making connection. Any ways the jack now works after I installed a new connector and we retracted all and skipped the second step of letting the jacks down 6" and just hit auto level. It seemed to work as it was configuring or auto leveling however, the passenger side center jack only came down about 3" and is not sitting on anything...any ideas?

I don't understand why RV manufacturers put the pin lock style legs on the front of the RV but do hydraulic on the middle+back. The amount of times I've seen someone brag "MY RV CAN LEVEL ITSELF! WATCH" and what happens? The front pin lock legs weren't set correctly...... I've seen it happen so many times. Its not really a self leveling setup then if you have to guess each time you setup.
