What research are you using to specify that the GY Endurance are better than the Sailun tires on the Montana? I have a 2017 Jayco Octane T32C where I replaced the drums off the stock LCI 6K axles with Dexter 7K/8K drums with 5/8" lug studs and installed 17.5 " grey steel wheels with Sailun load range H tires which now has about 15K miles on them. To date the Sailuns have been flawless. I most likely could have gotten away with simply replacing the tires with 16" load range G tires but I figured the load range H tires would afford a bit more endurance for trips such as Alaska from the mainland as an example. Being a former 48 state and Canada over the road 18 wheel driver, overkill can be your friend when it matters most.

Sailun is by NO MEANS an inferior tire. Their tech specs actually surpass Goodyears in a few ways. The video is directed more toward what the general public is going to see as a superior quality on either. Mr. Haylett is a Montana users several times over now. He's never swapped out the tires and has put some miles on them. The Sailuns are fantastic. Perhaps I failed to present that impression properly

Liked the Eagle Modern Farmhouse. Which I never thought I would choose something over a Montana. I liked more of the bathroom features in the Eagle , 2 quiet air conditioners matter, liked the one flooring better - it made it look bigger and sharper. Stoves anywhere just need an outside wall exhaust fan - but especially in a camper. The more the windows open the better.

Outstanding video and a much needed on at that. We were actually comparing the Montana HC 294RL and Jayco Eagle 317RLOK this afternoon (we were only looking...not going to buy from those guys). We have been in contact with one of your reps. We narrowed our purchase to these two models. A couple things you did not mention was the slide out sidewall is VERY different. The black slideout sidewall of the Montana HC feels cardboard flimsy and the Jayco Eagle is rock solid, impressive for Jayco. I noticed the Montana HC's vanity mirror gets in the way and bangs your head. If you put yourself in the "face washing position" your head will not fit over the sink!!! Keystone needs to move the sink closer to the counter edge. Moreover, the slide mechanisms are different between the HC and Eagle. I know you addressed different mechanisms in another video (another superb video by the way). I am not much of a handyman so I'd like to know which one has more maintenance issues/history, Does the large gap caused by the cable mechanism lead to a risk of drafts or gaps? Bottom Line Josh, we'd get the Jayco Eagle with the darker wood tones in a second but not thrilled about the added 3 feet length compared to the 294RL. Thanks again for an extremely well timed video!!!!

Hi Chuck! Thanks for watching and a special thank you for giving our team the opportunity to earn your business in return for our efforts here on these videos! I'm not quite understanding what "Gap" you're referencing on the MHC slide system as they don't have gaps around their slide outs. Everything ends up sealed exactly the same on both units.

Josh, thanks for spending all the time to record, edit, and post this comparison video. I like seeing what these two models have in common and where they differ. I also like that you started with two models that are very close in price. If you're willing and able to do another 5th wheel comparison video, I'd like to see one at the smaller end of the 5th wheel spectrum for Jayco and Keystone. For example, it seems like both the 2021 Jayco Eagle HT 25.5REOK (Rear Entertainment, Outside Kitchen) and the Keystone Cougar HT 25RES have a similar overall length and floor plan. Yet the MSRP of that Eagle model is about $57K vs. Cougar's $47K. That's a noteworthy difference. Thanks!

"Eagle HT vs Cougar Half-Ton" is 100% on my list of intentions. I just literally don't YET have an updated copy of both in stock to compare Funny thing is we HAVE had them... but they're selling almost as soon as they land... and I don't like to go tromping thru a sold RV's interior for the sake of a video. I see that as someone else's property now and it just feels wrong somehow Cougar v Eagle in the "HT Segment" will be pretty head-to-head for the most part. Eagle has little touches like Whisper A/C in the living room and option now for a king bed while cougar has the superior tech package and pinbox

Doing a " Hacksaw Jim Duggin power stomp " in the shower 🤣🤣 I like the XL power vent fan idea in the kitchen / living area. No matter how good a microwave vent fan is, they struggle to remove odors from the living space without running them for extended periods of time. Also the bigger fan in the bathroom-- ditto. Removes moisture / humidity faster / better. Time for Jayco to step up on that front. Aaaaaaand real world experience talking here. The taller bed slide definitely makes a difference for me being close to 6' tall and getting into / out of bed it's pretty easy to knock your head on the upper slide trim.

FYI the Eagle 319MLOK has a maxx air fan in the kitchen. The issue now is they located the smoke detector right next to it so as you draw the smoke out when cooking it sets off the smoke alarm every time. We now always remove the battery before cooking. Such a pain.
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 4 жыл бұрын
The 319MLOK's fan was actually largely based on my constant pressuring per the Eagle manager at that time lol. He advised it was a "baby step" by the design team to get the engineers to start including a fan feature. Even then it was introduced as a simple 4" blade fan more commonly found in a lot of camper bathrooms. Easily upgraded thankfully

@vtmkb 4 жыл бұрын
So you have the ear of Jayco? I have a design idea that would actually apply to many manufacturers. I love the integrated shelf my Eagle has next to the bed, its great for holding a drink or phone, but its really limited space. My thought would be to make a shelf integrated into the window valance next to the bed. I am constantly using the top of the valance to keep my reading glasses, chapstick and other small items for when I’m in bedtime mode. Would be nice if it was an actual shelf surface. Would be a super simple add that would really go a long way. Maybe pass that along next time you are speaking with them.

When roof comparing (cause really what are most Rver's concerned with) leaking,,,I would like to see if one company or the other seals, or using different products that protects it from leaking.. Yes it's nice that it's a walkable roof and like said does the roof rating matter,,, but is is going to leak is more important.. Thanks for your hard work..

Great video. I have a 2019 Jayco 355MBQS without some of the newer functions you showed on the new Eagle. Also, I have found that the whisper quiet a/c does not cool as well as the louder Coleman Mach. If the Eagle now has two whisper quiet a/c's , I would not buy it. Here in Texas the whisper quiet ac's can't keep up with the heat.
@JoshtheRVNerd

I'll have to do some more looking into the whisper AC vs output discussing. Thing is there's zero reason that should actually be the case (though I don't doubt your personal experience). They're the same size A/C using the same ducting with the same airflow. The ONLY difference is just the air return system being muffled basically.

TY Chris! I think your feedback is fair. Designing RVs is tricky like that. When a builder has a cap of only $X to spend, then they need to pick and choose their battles. And if you say "well I want all the things," then you end up with something far bigger, heavier, and more expensive. It's tricky knowing where to cut loose and where to pull back.

Really like that Eagle 336FBOK for both the front bath but especially the outside kitchen. High Country stopped producing any model (344RL) with an outside kitchen. I know the buyer can opt for one in big Montana but you have to give up a third of the pass-through storage. I wish Jayco would offer a lighter natural (rather than painted) wood tone with “gra-eige” (grayish beige) furniture. Keystones painted white cabinetry retains some natural wood tones which, for me, “open up” the rv without the sterile feeling. Thanks for all your hard work. 8:08 a thought that came to me about the stronger roof surfaces is less about holding up under load (carrying weight) as much as longevity under wind load going down the road (especially windy highway speeds) as well as in certain extreme weather, not to mention if/when a tree limb, etc. falls onto your roof❗️ Plus a strong roof holds it all together inverse to the frame structure holding it all togerther at the base (foundation) = a structural sandwich‼️ 🥪 🤤😋

A "Strandwich" perhaps? :) What I can say with confidence after a dozen years of reviewing not JUST New RVs, but also THOUSANDS of used RVs: Both brands hold up to the long haul. Old montanas amaze me. I've seen some owned by folks who just use/abuse the crap out of them. While the interior or exterior might look a little tired... they still have those good bones.

From my experience Montana's tend to have cable driven slides while Eagle's have the schwein track system on the smaller slides. Both very reliable, but people have their preferences. I only made it half way before I had to do something, so I might have missed it
@JoshtheRVNerd

A little clarity that may help: * Montana HIGH COUNTRY Uses Cable slides. "Big Montana" does not. * Eagle uses a different slide as it is most appropriate for each application. They've recently changed up which systems are being used where for superior long term function and experience. Thank you for tuning in. Would love to see you finish the video and offer some more insights!

@@JoshtheRVNerd First of all, wow that was a quick reply for a 2 day old video. I would say if your looking at that price range for a full time, go for the Montana HC (like you said the full profile down to the HC). If I were in the lot right now and had to choose one of these....I’d still be standing there! I like the Montana kitchen but I think I would pick the Eagle for 2 reasons, the closet in the bathroom and the sink being positioned to one side on the island. I think Montana gives overall more counter space but they break up the working space by putting the sink the the middle of the island. This would be a tough choice but for me, I think Eagle wins.

Important note: I wasn't comparing two specific floor plans here. Not EVERY MHC uses the same bathroom as what you see here. So try to "disconnect" from that one. There are plenty of great RVs out there, but my role here is really to educate folks on the offerings we have within our lineup and the benefits to working with Haylett RV. When I compare two brands we carry here I can be brutally transparent. Often each brand has comparable points, but now and then one just clearly wins in one category or another. I don't feel I can do that with the same degree of integrity on a brand we do not feature here & will not make purely negative or obviously slanted bias content. We get enough of that during political election season. I know I certainly don't want to see more of it lol

@@JoshtheRVNerd I understand, and would not expect that you would be able to do a comparison with a line that you do not carry. Your channel has had the desired effect on me. It has educated me about RVs, but more importantly, about the value of your dealership. @@JoshtheRVNerd We prefer the Montana's from a style perspective. The wife likes the symmetry of the kitchen, with countertop and the stove. We also like the coffee bar and pantry. The in command system is neat, but I'm not a gamer (pin ball for me) , so that doesn't really become part of my decision. Not a deal breaker, but not impressed either. I like the drop frame storage and high profile. We also like the lighter wood. But I have also heard very good things about Jayco too. But if I were to choose today between those 2 units, it would be the HC. The problem my wife has with most HC's though is the second door in the bathroom, she's not a fan of that. That also rules out Alpines and Avalanches as well. Our favorite unit so far is the Montana 3120RL. No residential fridge for us. (I really learned a lot on that thanks to you) The important things we decided on was size, reliability, and accessibility while traveling. That rules out some of the Eagles. We did see a Pinnacle 32RLTS at the Cleveland RV show last year, liked that as well. But we prefer the smaller rigs. I kind of wished that the new 32 ft HC would have had a different Floorplan, much like the 3120RL. Champaign tastes some times! We'll see if that's in our cards. Many times we have planned and God has laughed! We are still at least 1-2 years away from being longtimers, so we're going to keep using our Copper Canyon 25FWRLS some more. Especially since an upgraded RV also includes an updated Ford truck. Thank you for asking, and thank you for all of the videos, very helpful.

It requires basically cutting a hole in the slide face that wasn't intended to be there. I don't like that idea -- introduces stress points for which no engineering has accounted What I can offer is they've been immensely popular and successful longer than anybody else in this RV segment. They cater to a lot of full timers who cook regularly in the RV My Mother and Father are montana users and she is constantly cooking. That big vent fan on the ceiling seems to do the job quite well for them Another option may be something like a North Point which is HIGHLY comparable to a Montana (each better in some small ways actually). It'll have both the XL vent fan in the ceiling AND a venting stove top hood. Here's a sample North Point kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2PWpaNmoLyElas

@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 4 жыл бұрын
Some answers/ideas for you: *REGARDING ROCKS ON WINDSHIELDS:* Ignore the fact this is an RV real quick. Think of your personal vehicle that you drive probably EVERY day & think of how rare rocks ticking against your windshield are. * Now, consider how rarely you've had a rock crack a windshield in a vehicle (understanding RVs use the same type of windshields -- Montana anyway). * NOW consider how rarely a fifth wheel is towed vs. an every day driving vehicle. * NOW consider how HIGH UP IN THE AIR that montana windshield is. * NOW consider the location of the diamond plate stone guard on a travel trailer. It's down low because it's almost always YOUR vehicle flinging rocks & 95% of stones are shown to hit that line or below. * It's not IMPOSSIBLE, but it's astronomically improbable. *FUEL DIFFERENCE:* I will preface this by saying there has been NO testing of which I am aware regarding MPG variances when towing brands X, Y, and Z. That being said... they're both big FWs that stick right up in the air. I don't believe you'd find a measurable difference on one vs. the other. That's PURELY theory though. I've been doing this a dozen years now and haven't yet had someone say "My MPG was better with THIS fifth wheel vs THAT one"

WOW... very nice comparison of the two manufactures my wife and I are finally winding down to. As we look to retire, and in conducting our 'due diligence' we've found that were basically down to the MHC 330/1RL or Jayco 317RLOK. SO... your comparison video hit home. Question.. when doing my research, I've read numerous complaints of loose bundles of wiring and not enough insulation in the Jayco's which has caused problems with freezing water. I only ask as my wife and I are planning to use use our RV in cold weather. (turning of the leaves in Vermont/Maine; Glacier NP/Yellowstone in later fall when the temperatures fall considerably). We also like the built-in outdoor kitchen (which i feel will cut down on the condensation. thoughts?)
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 3 жыл бұрын
Almost every MFG will have loose wiring below the skin. That's actually quite common. While not pretty it also doesn't hurt anything. Rockwood is one of the few I've seen to take the time to zip tie wires together to make them look nicer if you open a panel up. They're not the ONLY ones, but one of the few Jayco tests each layout the make individually. That doesn't mean they're impervious to all weather, but I don't hear reports like this from Jayco with frequency. That being said we've had multiple Keystone Cougar/Montana clients sing the praises of how well they've held up to cold conditions even thru some Michigan Vortex winters. Keystone is crushing it in that department currently.

I know some people do it (more over the past few years). I think it's important to recognize that even a great RV still isn't like a house in many respects. Some are made for more frequent use, but some are also made for more casual enjoyment. I don't know that it's something I would ever do personally, but I also don't exactly know your life and motivating factors. Have you spent time in an RV before? Adjusted to the smaller space/storage options vs. most homes? You may consider a rental for a few weeks sometime to get a feel for it before diving in head first.

This video naturally focuses on the "High Country" series of Montanas which is a little more like something in the way of an Avalanche perhaps Full Montana would compare a bit better to one of these North Points like this one kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2PWpaNmoLyElas I have a Montana v North Point comparison coming soon at kzbin.info/www/bejne/moqZgICLe9B9rNE you may enjoy seeing!

Very good vid comparing the two. Thank you! Any plans on a comparison with an Arctic Wolf and anything else in their price range? 🤔

That's kind of the trick with Arctic -- They have done a better job of managing their price point vs. pretty much anyone else out there. Easily one of the "Highest Value" RVs available. I'll do some Arctic vs. Eagle/Cougar stuff, but it'll take me a bit. Basically what you'll find with an Arctic is they generally accomplish 100% of the "CRITICAL!" features very nicely Then they accomplish about 90% of the "small preference" features at about 75% of the cost. After Arctic you really start running into a lot of "Diminishing returns" I think.
