Our Search for an RV Home Base is over!

🅵🆄🅻🅻 🅱🅻🅾🅶 🅿🅾🆂🆃 : changinglanesr...
As many of you know, we've been casually searching for an RV home base for a couple of years. That search was very low-key until about 8 months ago when we ramped it up and started trying to narrow down our search criteria.
Initially, we really didn't know where or what we wanted. We just looked to see what was out there. Kind of the same way we approached RV shopping: Look at a bunch of options and learn what we didn't know we didn't know. 😊
Now, to build or buy? We were open to both but when we started to ask about build times, we eliminated building. That was going to take way too long for us. So, we started looking at homes with land and no RV restrictions.
The next big hurdle was to find one with accessibility for our ginormous RV! We found so many great options that had everything except that! Rural roads are tough when it comes to towing a 44' toy hauler! But, in one last-ditch effort, before we were leaving one area to search another, Tara found it! It had just come on the market less than an hour before she did. 24 hours later and we had a contract!
Why?
First off, let's get this out of the way: We are NOT going to stop RVing and making RV content on KZbin.
Those of your who follow us know that Tara has been dealing with the fallout from her Lyme Disease since the day we started living in an RV full time. Our intent was to still see doctors and get treatments on the road. However, the logistics of this have proven to be difficult, and we've never stayed still long enough to give Tara some time and rest to improve her health. We knew we needed to find a home base where we can have access to doctors and take some time out from the RV. Not a LOT, as we still LOVE to travel, see new things, and share them on our channel.
What About Our Content?
When we started creating RV content, we had no idea it would turn into something we could do full-time. We absolutely LOVE creating videos about RV Life and we have no plans to stop! In fact, having a home base with an RV pad is going to allow us to be more deliberate about how we plan and create our how-to content.
The logistics of installing a complete solar/inverter system while traveling while moving every 10-14 days is CRAZY! Now, for projects like that, we can time them to do the work at the cabin. Additionally, now that we have a place to store things, we expect to broaden the scope of our how-to videos to include things too difficult to take with us on the road. External generators, portable solar, etc. It's also going to allow us to explore (and share) a new part of RV Life (with a home base). 😀
Overall, we feel this is going to be a GREAT move for us and our content going forward!

I hear where we are now that there might be a rubbish hole or two long ago filled ! LoL ! We have a couple great deterrents, first is elevation and the second is the copperhead’s and timber rattlers!!!!! Ex Navy ( Not Seal ) but we will be ok ! They will do good with camera’s and a prox alarm or two , but the bears will wake you up from time to time ....

WELCOME HOME !!! Everybody needs a place to call home not just in a RV. Tara is right , when you're sick sometimes you just want to be left alone and that you know is hard in a RV next to another RV. So, I'm very happy for you both. From what I can see , it's beautiful and as time goes by you'll show us more. I'm just happy for you. Thanks for sharing your news.

Still happy for the two of you for several reasons. This gives you a home base to be able to do some of the other projects that you've wanted to do, and most importantly because this will give Tara a "quiet place" to be able to recover at her own pace and not have to worry about having to move to a different location. The bonus of being closer to family is just that - a huge bonus that you both deserve. The nice thing about a home base is that you can go on the road for however long you want, knowing that you now have this in your back pocket and can return there and not sweat it! Kind of the best of both words in my book.

Congratulations ! Haven’t seen all your videos but the wife and I have been watching on and off for some time, we sold everything back west and hit the road in our RV just like yours . After time on the road we wanted a home base and looked and looked, 29 states later and kind of giving up we stumbled on a cabin ( we call it a cabin ) that was a wreck ! But we can now say we have-a home base ....... which has turned into more now with the price of everything ! So now we are talking Garden / Chickens and other means of food production ! Did I mention there was no way in God’s green earth we could get our 56 foot ish RV here ? So now it’s a small class C and a cargo trailer..... we love the Smokey Mountains and the people in our very small community. Hope you find the peace and quiet we all need sometime. God Bless

My former house had plentry of RV room, but it had a 40 degree driveway that required 4WD low to get the RV up. It also required a tractor to fix the driveway when the rain washed it out. I now have to rent a storage lot space.

We bought land to be able to go back to from time to time with the thought of building however we in addition to that just bought a home on 5 acres since it would be 1y and a half for a build after our first yr rving. Hubby took a remote job and his Mom got sick last fall so that all slowed our travels for now. I think you could share both sides of your lives of DIYs and life at the cabin and your travels as it is all part of your lives!!

Enjoyed the log cabin update Congratulations! (we subscribe to many log cabin channels so bring it on - share without giving up your privacy) and we have enjoyed your latest rv travels thru the west too! My husband and I have just have a 22' Travel Trailer in Central Florida and have only done the local camps, however, can't wait to venture out West with it. We have traveled to the west with the conventional airflight, hotel/resort and car rental which seems to be more efficient with regards to time. Keep up the great work on videos!

I watch quite a few full-time RVers on KZbin and it appears many of them are deciding that they need a home base. It looks like you found a great one. I'll bet many of your subscribers are like me...they regularly watch RV channels and DIY cabin channels so I suspect many of your viewers wouldn't mind a blend of the two.

Tara 1/2 the reason I watch your channel is because you have chronic Lyme As a fellow outdoor & Rving lover with chronic Lyme I’m so Impressed you can travel full time. I also understand how treatments are a double edge sword So glad you’ll have a stable beautiful place to rest and prep to continue your adventures. And Chad I must admit I don’t watch all the RV maintenance videos 😬 but when anything goes wrong on my rig your channel is one of my first stops to research if you’ve done a video on how to fix things. They’re always sooo easy to understand and follow Thanks!

I am happy for you. This video is making me feel sad b/c my wife and I built a cabin on 11 acres in East Tennessee 15 yrs ago and we even had a full hookup campsite on the property so we could stay there in a small camper while we built the cabin. It was wonderful but there were a couple problems. (some suspicious characters that lived nearby and the work to maintain our long driveway really got to my back. It was still so much fun building it . We do miss it. Your video really brought some tears to me. I enjoyed it. good luck.

You may find you want to spend more time than you think. We have a home in the Phoenix area for the winter months, and a summer home in the AZ White Mountains 3.5 hours away. Welcome to the life of "long trips but still having Bricks and Sticks" to go back to. I like it that way myself. Sometimes I need to be home and in my workshop and not on the road. I think that cabin is going to see you more and more and the RV less and less as time marches on. 5 Years on the road is A LOT, so I do not blame you at all...and the health scenario also makes this move essential. Congrats!

Nice to see this. After living in fifth wheel for over a year we bought a house. I use the fifth wheel as my office!

Congratulations. Looking forward to the tour. Please invest in a camera system. I have the Ring system and am very happy with it, but there are sooooo many others. Place your router on a UPS so that when the power goes down you have internet and therefore still can communicate and have cameras. Keep sending the content for the RV stuff. Keep Safe. Thank you for your service and support of military and veterans. You both Rock.
