Just an FYI for anyone caught out in a vehicle thats running hot and creeping up, “turn your heating up to full, i know your gonna be sweating 😅, turn blowers on full, and it will bring the heat down on your engine” its a weird hack that really does work and has helped me out on numerous occasions over the years 👍

Check your fan clutch for being too loose. Also make sure the lower radiator hose isn't collapsing. There is a spring that is in the older big v8 engine lower hoses to keep it from sucking shut. They sometimes corrode and collapse in these older rv's that have sat for periods of time.

My old Suburban started running hot and I replaced the radiator, upper & lower hoses, and put in a heavy duty water pump. Now it runs cooler than it did when it was new. One peculiar thing I found was that the inside of the aluminum thermostat housing had a lot of casting flash around an inside bend which looked like it was restricting coolant flow & causing turbulence, so I used a grinder bit & file to remove the excess material & smooth it all out. Another thing you need to check on an older engine is the fan clutch if your engine has a belt driven fan and not an electric fan.

If you are going back with "normal" coolant add Red Lines "Water Wetter Super Coolant", it can lower the engines running temperature by 30°. If you want a better solution (a bit more expensive though at around $30-$50 a gallon depending on where you get it, but very worth it!), go with "Evans High Performance Waterless Engine Coolant". No water used so the boiling point is much higher than traditional coolant, you can even remove the radiator cap while the engine is running and warm without it blowing coolant everywhere because no steam pressure builds up! It also much better for the cooling system and engine because it doesn't cause ANY rust or corrosion or electrolysis to the metals! I would also suggest at least a new radiator and hopefully a higher capacity one to get better cooling properties! Loving the job you guys are doing on this! Definitely do more of them!

Huge recommendation… If you run the RV hard at high speeds or interstate travel or even uphill, don’t just stop and shut it off if you can help it. Once you shut it off coolant stops circulating in heat will build up. IDEALLY let it idle until it comes down to a normal temp. Also if your radiator cap is not holing pressure… coolant will boil way way too soon… and that will cause overheating.
@reynaldgonnin93883 жыл бұрын
Over heat problem, check the fan clutch , the water pump for flow, thermostat (you did that) Stalling while coming to a stop in drive, transmission torque lock up solenoid sound the guilty party here, new engine looks like you're getting a TBI (throttle body injection) should get a MFI (multi-fuel port Injection) more efficient, Cheers see you on the road!

If a engine is tired out, and it appears that it has either a breach of the head or gasket or a clogged radiator these are signs of an engine that is pretty much used up you are handling that part of it, good job. One thing to bear in mind is that these units were not designed to be durable in the way that modern trucks are. I would seriously prepare for a transmission replacement soon, and also additional coolers to be installed on the engine oiling system and the transmission oil system. To put it bluntly, if the engine is whipped, the tranny ain't far behind.

What year is the RV, again? Watching you start it made me think it might be old enough to have an automatic choke. If it does you fully depress the gas pedal, release, then push the pedal down again about half way before starting. Once started let the gas off and it should idle high enough to keep it running and warm up. When you are ready to go you tap the pedal and that reduces the idle. If I remember right, I think most cars before the 90's had this type of automatic choke.

wat i seen on onother bus build was the the waterpump impeller was loose on the pumpshaft so basicly the coolant wasnt circu;lating around inside the engine one thing that helps cooling the engine is running the heater inside the rv (its an extra radiator) other reason could be bad headgasket (s) putting pressure on the coolingsystem (though you usually notice white smoke comming out the tailpipe or the oil turning intoo a creme colour ) more likely that the water channels inside the radiator are clogged so it doesnt cool as good as it should (the clogs might bust loose during the trip and overheating gets less the new engine looks good i hope they rebuild the trans too that way there be less problems to expect down the road knowing youre mecanics will realy help you when buying vehicles for youre projects (you can regognise mecanical problems by the sound an engine makes and predict the added cost in fixing them ) and fixing stuff when things break down on the road on the side of the road , its allso way cheaper to repair stuff youreself compared to hiring a mecanic if you know wat youre doing , its a realy good skill to have i myself recendly swapped out an engine in my car with one from a donor car and saved over 600 dollar in labourcosts alone , it made that car worth double wat i payed for it

How exciting! The engine is definitely the most important part (we say after a year of only really working on the interior 😅)! If you have it running reliably, you can take your time fixing up the interior. And hopefully your interior doesn't have as much rot as our did so you can just make fun decor updates as you go 🤞

@@Theendlessadventure Ha, yeah without an engine you wont be adventuring very far, that's for sure! My engine runs flawlessly, I tuned it up myself just to be sure it stays that way, and man my Rot was bad, and it was all in the roof and walls. I actually practically completely rebuilt my roof when I found out how extensive the damage was. I kept digging and digging further into the roof hoping to eventually find something good until I finally gave up and whipped out the circular saw and sliced the whole roof off. I rebuilt it with PVC 1/2" Plywood so it will never rot again, and also used only quality stuff so that hopefully this RV comes out of it with a hurricane resistance rating haha! Still ironing out the functionality stuff so I got a ways to go yet before I can have fun in the interior. If you go back to my channel you can see my original 1988 genset I am currently reviving, I recorded videos to here to get better help from my forum friends on how to fully restore it, and there's a little bit of my old RV ( Maybe one day I will get the motivation to make a before and after video, I got like 300 photos of my work that I've done over the last year, that's enough to tell a story!). At least you guys got aluminum outer walls, because I'm stuck with fiber glass, and man does it crack if you are not careful, stuff is major brittle. I had a time with that wall when I completely rebuilt my front cab from scratch, cracked on my three times around my main windows. Anyways, thanks for the response, and if you all ever decide to get an older genset for your rig, or even need electrical advice, you can always let me know if you got questions, I've been working with electricity for a long time, and know a good bit of stuff!

Al's parents were in the NW burbs of Chicago, we drove to his dad's house with cars breaking down forever. University of Cincinnati to Algonquin 5 hours that turned into 8 or 9 several times. We know your pain...

I used to live in South Dakota! I haven't been in around 25 years, but you have to try the state dessert...its a German custard pie called Kuchen (coo-gen). My memories of it is that its best covered in powdered sugar and made by a grandma. If you go north in the state their is an amusement park called storybrook land. There aren't any big rollercoasters but they have giant statues of the characters from the wizard of oz that are pretty cool. Granted, I moved when I was 5 in 1997, but I would love to see parts of the state beyond the black hills and Mt. Rushmore.

The trick is to blast the heat and let all the hot air from the engine blow into the cab. This would dramatically lower my thermostat. Also try to drive as slow as you can get away with ...also pulling over and opening hood , to let heat come out ...my second beater taught me alot . I still blast the heat for a few minutes with my new car to allow heat to leave engine and cool it down ..I think I was traumatized by my old car ...but I'm sure it's good preventive maintenance

We always bring a pot of coffee in two thermoses when we go on RV trips. With yours at least you can park at a restaurant if you can find one with large spaces. Not so great if you’re towing a car.

I'm from South Dakota! Live here in Sioux Falls which is the biggest city. Don't miss Falls Park here. Out west if fun too. Wall Drug, Mount Rushmore, Deadwood, 1800 Town all out that way

I had a 1976 Chevy Holiday Rambler class C. I wish I still had that rig.

Lol, we are on I90 near Chicago and saw one like yours behind us and had to double check. We’ve seen many of your episodes and just took our maiden voyage this week though Wisconsin.
