While retracting my slide today I noticed a gap in the rear bottom of the slide. It must have got out of alignment somehow. The Manuel is very helpful in instruction to how to realign the slide vertically:

2001 Monaco Knight 36R - Front/Large slide. This video matches perfect other than the pin he pulls out. Mine had a roll pin and we had to use a punch to get the pin out and I replaced it with a Cotter Pin. He calls his push pin a Cotter Pin, but it's not. He has room for the push pin. My Monaco is tighter and I had to use a regular stainless steel Cotter Pin and bent the ends over. I believe that I went up a ramp or driveway at an angle like what happens in gas stations and this twisting motion caused my rear track/gear to jump one tooth. Turns out this is a really easy fix once you have done it the first time - took forty-five minutes - if I have to do it again it will take ten minutes or less. I used a hammer to tap the shaft to the left to disengage the gear. Getting it back took some effort because the gears have to line up. Dealers wanted $300-$400 to do the same job. PS: don't worry about the other end, the square shaft goes into a smaller square tube and they telescope - so moving the shaft is not a problem.
@JohnCRV7 жыл бұрын
Hey Gary, thanks for pointing out the difference between a push pin and cotter pin, you are correct and thanks for sharing in detail how you did the adjustment to your Monaco. There's many RVers out there that can save some money and time bringing it to a shop. Take care.

20021 Monaco 36 - 36R Hello John and thank you again! Your area to work in is larger than mine on the Monaco. Diesel/Push/Two Slides Drivers Side - my front slide mechanism is a different company, however, my main slide is the same as yours, just much tighter area and when I tried the push pin it gets caught on its surroundings when the shaft turns - putting in a Cotter Pin is easy and easier to remove if maintenance is needed again - the roll pin is what took so long, just getting it out.

Thanks John, very nice video on slide synchronizing! Have you done a video on how to level the slide out for a power gear slide? I've got a small gap on the top of my front road side slide. I'm trying to figure out how to adjust the slide to get a tight seal at the top of the slide.
@JohnCRV Жыл бұрын
Not yet on that video! The adjustment bolts are just behind the front an back square body panels you see on each side of the slide. You'll have to find the screws to take the panel off (probably hidden by caulk). You'll need a floor jack with wooden blocks to lift the slide after you loosen the bolts. Hope this helps,

John, I have always wondered what to do if that slide I have came out alignment. This is such a helpful video. It’s so funny. We jump up and down when we get 100 views and you are getting thousands. Way to go John. Our videos are about exactly what it says ( life with Ken and Jane) what we do our life. We take you mining. Out in the Mohave desert in the mountains. And I learned or am learning the guitar. I was in bands for decades as the singer. I am almost 64 and some have passed away and some might as well have ( band members) since I am a writer of songs I was going a bit nuts cause I was always coming up with a tune in my head. So Jane said buy a guitar. At 62????? But I did and I love it, I am now playing and singing my songs. Some I have on the channel. I opened up for Eric Burden and the Animals, fabulous thunderbirds, marshal tucker, cake, David Lyndley ( he is Jackson Browns guitar. He is awesome) any way a little about me . Thanks for finding me and subbing. I would never have met you. The two I have watched are great. Life with Ken and Jane.

Your channel will do well. It’s never too late to learn the guitar, being a song writer it should come natural I would think, good luck with that if you enjoy it. +John C RV Just an observation but it looked to me that when your slide retracted all the way in that the gear drive was awfully close to overrunning the gear rail end. Possible disengagement , if only temporarily might allow the out of sync condition to develop.
@JohnCRV8 жыл бұрын
+Jay Low I was wondering if it could surpass the gear strip but watching it seems close to the end but not exactly. I'm wondering if hitting a pothole hard enough it would make it bounce off the gear? Another possibility is sliding it when not leveled? If I ever find out I will do a follow up video. Thanks for the comment and suggestion.

We moved the room out about a foot, measured both sides and did what you show in your video until they both measured the same. Then we moved the room in. The opposite end of the room was sticking out about an inch! We adjusted until both ends measured the same. We moved the room in and out about a foot and when all the way in The front end was off an inch again! We did the process again and the opposite end was off again? I don't know what else to do?

My problem. The slide in works. It is a gear & pinion type. BUT the top hangs up!! Had an earlier problem with the gear catching the bottom cover and tearing it. And since repair the top hangs. Must run back and forth several times when someone on the outside can get it pushed just right and it works perfect. But you can never depend on it to work every time. Last time set up looked like the top did not come all the way out. Have been looking for a possible cause. Any clues?
@JohnCRV6 жыл бұрын
I can try to give you some advise only based on my little experience with my slide. Adjustments is usually the major issues with mine. You mentioned it started catching since repair of bottom gear was catching the bottom cover? Can you explain “bottom cover? Because if they adjusted the slide upwards, that may be your problem.

Great Video. But my Lippert slide out didn't have a COTTER PIN. The "drive tube" gear box had large plastic bushings and locked in with two steel plates - Sideways sprocket sliding isn't available. BUT (once you've jacked up the rail to take the weight off the sprocket) you simply remove one of the 2 through-bolts and the sprocket-drive tube will drop clear of the rail gears, and you can make your adjustments on the loose "power side". Easy Peasy.

greetings, I have a 2007 Itasca Class A, model 35A. Pantry room slide fail. It appears that the main drive for the pantry slide is the front arm. Was used a few weeks ago, worked great. Today, the front arm is functioning but the rear arm mechanism is failing 'to keep up to front' . It seems the rear is just spinning and not engaging. I did the override, both LEDs flash - but only front drive arm is performing. The rear arm when pushing (override) button can hear motor turning but not moving slide. Took exterior panels off to access Manual Mode / crank handles inserted but again only front arm will engage. At this point the pantry room slide is extended about 6" and I can't go anywhere. help please car54_04@yahoo.com thx Don

Don, did you check the pin on the rear gear itself? If the pin is sheered the gear that contacts the slide bar will not turn. I'm assuming you only have one motor driving both shafts rear and front correct?

@@JohnCRV hi and thx for speedy reply. I spoke with Winnebago this morn, and they confirm 2 motors, 1 for each rail. When I did the override I can get each motor to activate separately. The front rail works fine, the rear mechanism (motor runs) just spins and no action to move slide. Problem I have now, is to get at the rear motor. Winnebago advises both rails are same length but I can see only front and motor on front rail. The rear is behind - I dont know - but I am trying. If I can get to it what does the pin on rear gear look like. I kinda think it is a gear type issue, sprocket or teeth missing off gear .

I’m not familiar with the 2 motor set up on the Winnebago but you should be able to get to the gears of the slide to see if they are turning when you engage the motor. If the shaft is turning the gear(s) should be turning as well. If the gear is not turning then most likely you have a sneered pin which is very common on these type slideouts. Do you know the type of slideout you have? If you do you should be able to search for a schematic online and it will show the gears and pins to check.

@@JohnCRV hi. I located the motor. I can see from the passenger side by opening side panel. But I have to get at it from driver side and remove access panel . more to come. here is a bit of info. can we post pics here.. Digi-Sync = The term ‘Digi-Sync’ was first used by Kwikee to identify their 2-arm slide-out mechanisms. This electric slide mechanism features a worm-gear or ACME screw drive and ‘synchronization’ of the room travel was accomplished using encoders / hall effect sensors and a control module. FYI - With the 2007 acquisition of Kwikee by Actuant - the parent company of Power Gear, the decision was made to identify the new Power Gear 2-arm rack & pinion slide-out mechanisms as ‘Digi-Sync’ too… and this has caused some confusion with all parties involved. Digi-Sync FLS = Faster / Longer / Stronger - This identifies a change made by Kwikee beginning on MY2005 coaches. The original motor with the replaceable encoder changed to a more powerful motor with an integrated encoder. The room travels twice the speed of the older / standard mechanism and the stroke and weight carrying capacity were increased too.
