I would think about adding another hole and bolt to the 6 angled brackets glued to the roof. This way those support pieces will be more solid, and less apt to bend if any strong wind comes through.

It's been 3 years since video. Is tape still holding? Have you had it in cold snowy areas? I live in the Northeast.

I like the idea of the VHB tape but it does concern me a bit. The thought of driving at 70mph and them suddenly flying off would worry me. Seeing as your video is almost 3 years old, can you tell me how that has worked out for you?

Do you have an itemized break down of all the parts you used in the while solar system? Thanks!!

Which number 3M VHB did you use? There seems to be several times choose from. Thanks.

Hey I talk about the cost breakdown here (kzbin.info/www/bejne/oH7Fd4xoa5x_Y8k) but the whole system cost me ~$2600

I understand why you don't want any needless penatrations in the roof, but I might be concerned if you got a heavy wind gust that the panel could flip and tear the roof material by pulling on the brackets. A few screws into the roof and cover it with eternabond tape. But I really think you did an amazing job. As far as I know you aren't a carpenter or metal fabricator or anything like that and you just made a clean structure out of your imagination. And saw it complete enough in your head to have someone else make the cuts. Great job. Making an entertaining video to where people want to watch isn't easy and I have come to enjoy yours very much.

Hi Michael. Thanks for this excellent series. I'd like to offer a suggestion, so that you will be able to raise the panels easily with just one person. Consider installing a pair of gas charged lift support struts. Since they are used by many manufacturers, it should be easy to find a set that meets the required weight rating and length for your application.

How have the solar panels held up with the 3m VHB mounting? Now a couple years after the fact.
@rogerkern6 жыл бұрын
You put together one heck of a series, well broken down and not all at once.👍👍 solar can be over whelming and if you want it to last you gotta do the work, which you have done very well.

Thanks Roger. A lot of thought has gone into this series and you’re absolutely right, it can get really overwhelming. I’ve discovered that solar concepts are surprisingly hard to translate into video so I appreciate the good feedback 🙏🏼😎

VHB tape is what I want to use too so I don't drill and holes through the roof of my RV for my solar panels. I'm glad to hear of your success story with it and that it's held up so well. That gives me more confidence to use VHB tape instead of screws when I install my solar panels. Thanks for the info and the video.

Wow. I see that the bracket is taped real well to the rubber of the roof but not really to the structure of the motorhome. I guess since its proven itself on the road it works, but looks like a real strong wind in the right direction would leave you without solar and with some real big holes in your rubber roof.
@DuetJustusFam6 жыл бұрын
Hey Jim 😊 We have an aluminum roof and I suppose a strong tornado or hurricane would rip them off, but I don’t think the RV would survive either lol. We’ve been in temperatures from 17 degrees all the way to 100 degrees and this stuff is rock solid.

2 questions: 10 if you decide that you need to remove the tape for whatever reason, how is this accomplished? 2) I have my roof coated with product from rv-armor.com/index.html, any idea how the tape may work with/against this type of product? thanks for a great series..

Did you ever thing of adding brackets to the other side, so that you could tilt them in all 4 directions?

Couldn't you use a shock assistance for the solar panels? Like on the hood of a car??
