I was told it would be 1400 lbs, but I doubt that. I have a Chevy 2500, so it will be fine if it's heavier.

If the 2nd one's bed was in the 3rd one, that would be perfect! Really like how the 3rd one has the rap-around for the shower. Also, the counter top area is great!

A shower and bathroom for a half ton? That’ll never happen. Lol.
@TherevdonАй бұрын
@@RVBlogger I meant truck bed campers in general, not specifically a camper rated for a half ton. Personally, no matter what the manufacturer says, I'd never use one of these with anything less than a 1 ton, preferably a dually.
@RVBloggerАй бұрын
@@Therevdon That would be some serious overkill considering their payload weights are all under like 1600 lbs...

I’ve been looking for a slide in camper comparable to my 1974 9.5 Sunline camper. It could sleep a “family” of 6. ( cabover, dinette and a fold down over the dinette). 2-20 lbs propane tanks, wet bath, 3 burner stove with oven, 2 way boat fridge, Front Window, evaporator and something I can’t find on any new camper, a gas light. I set the camper up for all 12 volt. No generator, no tv. The height sitting on my truck was 10’6”, to the top of the evaporator. All the new campers are made for super or crew cab trucks. Mine is a standard cab. In Pennsylvania, the state likes to put 2 traffic signals right over the right lane. Having a new camper on my truck, I’d either have to pull up to the stop line and not see the traffic signal or stop back where I can see it but not trip the light. For those who might think this is no big thing, talk to car carrier drivers. Except they don’t often drive on back roads. I was able to pull a 19’ motor boat with the camper on the truck and WITHOUT a hitch extension.

The GVWR of each probably puts these over the vast majority of 1/2 tons’ payload ratings.
@RVBloggerАй бұрын
Newer half ton pickup trucks can handle these with no problem. Older models not so much. Thanks for your input. What pickup qand truck camper combo do you have? Mike
@gransport4246Ай бұрын
@ I have a rooftop tent and a Frontier currently. However, I’ve owned several half tons in the past. The last one was a 2019 Ram Big Horn which had 1720 lbs of payload. All of these truck campers had dry weights of around 1500 lbs. I wouldn’t put one in the Ram I had or the 2017 Sierra 1500 SLE before that. Many of the fancier versions like the Denali or Limited trims only have 1400-1500 lbs of payload.
@RVBloggerАй бұрын
@@gransport4246 I've always wanted to try camping in a rooftop tent but we have yet to do it...maybe someday. I think the manufacturers rely on the newest half ton ratings to claim that they work in a half ton pickup truck. Newer models of the Ford F-150 have a payload up to 3300 lbs and they can handle these truck campers. Older half ton pickups - not so much. Thanks for watching and for your comments! Mike

@RVBlogger thank you, I saw that little nugget of 411 on The TFL truck channel during one of their reviews but golly gee they post so much it's hard to pinpoint exactly what review , I think it's on Ford trucks but not sure maybe a Ram and we have all seen the pics of the Ram Dooley with a big truck camper and cargo rack and a broken frame it snapped behind the cab and Ram rejected the warranty claim
@jonzarembaАй бұрын
I fear those are too heavy for most half tons. Once you figure the driver and passenger's weight, all your supplies, some water, etc... I guess it will depend on the truck, but mine is maxed out at 2,000 lbs total.

Our 2022 Ram's payload is less than 1700 ... I was excited when I saw the title, but definitely all too heavy for our truck.

Maybe I don’t understand the loading of these campers in the truck bed. A ton is 2,000 pounds. That would make a 1/2 ton, 1,000 pounds. The empty weight of all three of these campers are above 1,400 pounds. It could be that you keep using the word “fit” on a 1/2 ton pickup truck. How would these not exceed the weight capacity of a half ton truck?
@RVBloggerАй бұрын
Because the words "half ton" in pickup truck language are not literal. Look up half ton pick up trucks and there are a ton of articles that try to explain this... For example a 2024 Ford F-150 has a payload of 3300 lbs...and the Dodge Ram is 2300 lbs... I'll never understand it either... Thanks for watching! Mike

Great video. Details up front.... This comment is not on you. But what design moron would put a open FLAME....RIGHT NEXT TO A UNPROTECTED, stove top wall. The lance squire SQ805. IS a death trap... Your cooking or boiling, step out... The flame... Under the pan or pot...pushes out to the zero flame protection side wall within inches...you walk back. Your trucks on fire...the camper is a Viking funeral for all your fishing gear, your hunting guns.. and the insurance man wouldn't believe your that stupid. . And for $30.000 dollars....I better have a toilet.... Those truck , fake non HUMEN, shells . Are for the birds... $30.000 dollars... You can buy a 15 foot, tow camper with shower, toilet. And four seasons....thank you two.... You showed..., 3 ? Not HUMEN, non campers. A Coleman stove, a fiberglass shell, sleeping bag. Cost $4.000. if you have to crap in the woods... Why get screwed.. BUYING $$$$$30.000 pounds of crap.
