Dear Dr.Michael, thanks for this tutorial about random short fiber. I need to create a fiber composite consisting of multiple cylindrical centers around which short fibers are arranged in a rotating pattern. I don't know how to create this model. If you share your suggestions with me, I would be very happy. I thank you in advance.

Hello, thanks for your query. I am not sure I understand what you are trying to do here. What I think you mean is that you want to create a micromechanical model of a short fibre composite but with the fibres distributed around a circular shaped RVE? Is this correct? What is the reason for this sort of RVE? What sort of loading are you looking to apply on such a circular shaped RVE? Is this a 3D or 2D problem, and if 3D, then I assume the RVE should be cylindrical. YOu did reference that the short fibres are small cylinders so I am thinking you are working on 3D domain. Please let me have some more information and then I will be able to provide more answers. Alternatively, just send me a message on my linked in here: www.linkedin.com/in/miokereke

I think for this problem you ahve to determine first the composite properties based on the given volume fraction. This is the only way you can prove what you are suggesting. I am not sure if this is the answer you are looking for as it is not clear to me what the question is.

when the montcarGen2D software will be available to us? cannot wait longer for that, lolol
@MichaelOkereke
@MichaelOkereke 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Victor, I apologise for the delay. I have been lately improving the usability of the code so that users can use it with minimal effort and where errors occur, the error-catching algorithms in the code will suggest to users what the error is and how to correct it. I believe this is essential for any software so that you will have a good experience with the code. I am also working on including some heuristics to the classic Monte Carlo process so that MontCarlGen2D can generate a higher volume fractions of RVE which is not always easy. If you know about the Monte Carlo process, it suffers from a jamming limit and this is typically at a volume fraction of about 40%-50%. Beyond this, the code will take too long to run. A heuristic implementation is normally included in the classic Monte Carlo process. This allows for stirring or shaking of the original inclusions in the box/RVE so that they 'settle' making more space for further inclusions to be added to the box. I am incorporating this 'stirring algorithm' into MontCarloGen2D hence the delay. I am also recording two videos to go with the Monte Carlo methods, the first being a discussion of the theory of the Monte Carlo Methods and the second showing how MontCarlGen2D works. Thanks for your continued patience and in the next couple of weeks, you will have the code.

I have an assembly made of chopped fibre and it has no proper orientation, and want to simulate it using Abaqus? Can you please direct me that how can I define a chopped fibre in Abaqus?
@MichaelOkereke
@MichaelOkereke 3 жыл бұрын
Hello @Sadiq Amin, thanks for your interest in the channel. I think what you are asking is how to specify properties to a fibre constituent in a chopped-strand short fibre composites. I will also assume that when you created the models, you had to design the fibre and the matrix independently, and within ABAQUS used the assembly module to combine them to form the short fibre composites. If these assumptions are true, then I will suggest you use the 'REMOVE SELECTED' button (on the menu bar) to select the Matrix (in the ASSEMBLY module) and this will remove the matrix leaving behind the fibres. With this, you can assign properties to the fibres by selecting all of them at once and using SECTION ASSIGNMENT to assign properties to the fibres. I hope this helps.

Sir..is it possible to introduce the orientation tensor in the script...so that we can get the results for different orientations..
@MichaelOkereke
@MichaelOkereke 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Subrat, you make a really good comment about the orientation tensor. It is very possible to do that but this has to also follow the Monte Carlo method of randomness. I always want the code to be independent of human interference so that you do not have to go and choose rotation tensors 'manually' and apply those onto the fibres. This is a half-way house, what I propose is an automatic way of choosing and implementing the rotation tensor. So for randomness of orientation to be included in the current implementation, the code should allow for a fibre orientation between 0 and 360 degrees and the chosen angle should be randomly determined. So, if you think about it, you will be looking at randomness in location and orientation. This will certainly slow the code down but it is possible to do. In future, I plan to incorporate the rotation-based Monte Carlo algorithm within MontCarlGen2D. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Dear Dr. Michael. How to define the stacking sequence, material property of a combined mat consisting both woven roven mat and a CSM in alternative layers. I tried to do define the delamination of such mat such cohesive zone modelling. But I'm stuck with geometrical modelling of this combined mat. Can you please make a video of this. Or how to go about this modelling in abaqus without using any user-subroutines.

Thank you sir, but I have a question, please how you can to select the start point of the fibers, are they selected randomly in the software?
@MichaelOkereke
@MichaelOkereke Жыл бұрын
Yes @Kamilia Leksir, the start point of the fibres is randomly generated. Based on that start point, we now create the required rectangle for the fibre. Someone can make the randomization to be based on the centre of the fibre but I chose to do it differently here. So, basically, the monte carlo methods generate random x and y coordinate positions to represent the start point of the rectangle i.e. the bottom left hand corner of the rectangle.

Hello sir can you make video on isotropic and concentric 3d printed composite tensile and 3point bending test
@MichaelOkereke
@MichaelOkereke 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Narendra, thanks for your interest in the channel. I have actually not modelled a 3D printed composite but following your comment, I looked at some papers on it and it does sound interesting. It is very much like a laminated composite, and one can quite easy do a microscale simulation of it. I will review your query with interest and maybe sometime in future make a video of 3D printed composites. Good luck with your research. If you have a research paper that you can suggest, that will be a good start off point for me to consider making a video that matches your interest.
