Have to tell you a story about our trip on the parkway in the late 50’s. We needed gas and dropped down to a small town to get gas. Pulled in to a Shell gas station. Asked the man to fill ‘er up. He said sorry, we don’t sell gas here. Our guess was it was full of white lightning! We sat there for a bit trying to process that statement. Lol

At the old farm where the fireplace was, they could have made molasses there. So much to enjoy on the parkway. Linville Caverns, Grandfathers Mountain in Boone, Laurel Springs has Church of the Frescos, has a Biblical garden. Not far from there is the infamous Shatley Springs where you can enjoy a old fashioned breakfast or dinner. People come from miles around to drink this water because of it's healing properties. Also Healing Springs up from there is the same. It has a ledger you can sign, the old country store, Doughton Park (mile post 235), the scenic overlooks are awesome. The Mountain Laurel is beautiful here.

Beautiful Russ. Asheville is a cool city it has a lot of art. There is the Biltmore Estate which is the largest home ever built in the US. Biltmore was built by George Vanderbilt. It is still owned by his descendants. It is currently a museum. The family lives on the property in another mansion.

We did the Blue Ridge Parkway when we did our Coast to Coast bike ride. My everlasting memory of our ride was my only ever encounter in my life with a Bear. He just wandered out into the road in front of us , stopped looked at us while we all looked at each other froze to the spot and he just strolled across the road and disappeared. A unforgettable experience and we were lucky to get gorgeous weather just like you Russ. A fantastic ride I recommend to anyone.

Paul we also have cycled the Blue Ridge Parkway, we started our ride in Belmont, Virginia and rode to Glendale Springs, North Carolina. I think we covered like 370 miles, it was a fun ride and very little traffic. Next month we are joining a group and ride the Natchez Trace Parkway, 444 mile long, starting the ride in Natchez, Mississippi and ending in Nashville, Tenn.
@paulwood77983 жыл бұрын
@@scable-eq7bp I was with a group of friends but we had motorcycles and we did the whole Parkway as part of a 7 week Coast to coast ride. We all live in Wales in the UK but I had spent some of my working life in America and knew a little about the Country but its so big. I have cycled thousands of miles in my younger days but took to Motorcycles after an accident after getting hurt as an innocent party but had planned a return to go North from the Great Lakes then South to Wild West America like Tombstone Bòothill etc then go back North to Vancouver via Death Valley The Rockies Black Hills and do an unplanned small town drift over to Vancouver but the World craziness has put that on hold. Love exploring your great country.

This is just gorgeous. I am so disappointed in what I have missed, but thankfully get to see it now through your videos. When I ran cross country for UPS, for a couple years we ran L.A. to Greensboro NC. Since I was the senior driver I felt it was only fair to switch off each week on who started first. That way you didnt see the same stretch of road each week. By law you have to drive ten hour shifts, so you ran about 650 miles on your shift...give or take a few. We switched in Knoxville TN and it's only about 280 miles to Greensboro but we always went through this stretch at night. I was either driving or asleep in the bunk, so I never really got to see just how awesome NC is.

Loved riding with you and seeng all the beauty. NC is truly gorgeous! As a child, When we would go to the mountains around Asheville, there would be water coming from the side of the mountains. My daddy would hold us up so we could drink from the streams of water. It was so good and cold. Beautiful state to grow up in. Great video! ♥️❣️🙏🏼❣️♥️

At 6,643 feet, Clingmans Dome is the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is the highest point in Tennessee, and the third highest mountain east of the Mississippi. Only Mt. Mitchell (6,684 feet) and Mt. Craig (6,647), both located in Mt. Mitchell State Park in western North Carolina, rise higher. The observation tower on the summit of Clingmans Dome offers spectacular 360° views of the Smokies and beyond for visitors willing to climb the steep half-mile walk to the tower at the top.

How beautiful! So green and leafy! No wonder marijuana is still illegal in NC. You don't need it! A drive on this road has the same effect. It must be like an LSD trip for a guy from Quartzite! Hey, when I was a kid we used to blow the horn in tunnels. Why do you never do that? Seems like you always have the tunnels all to yourself.
