Good vid Andy, I have used mine for 25 years and its still going strong, now I am getting older though I take off the side pockets or I just tend to bloody fill them. Brilliant bit of kit. No fancy vent on mine though.

I use my side pouch day sack configuration all the time and think its great I've even used it for minimalistic 1-2 day camping

4:10 - They call it a "Bergbuckle". The Brit military used miniature versions of it on the early DPM 1990 Pattern PLCE Rucksack Infantry shoulder straps. It was a fail on the PLCE but it's a really good belt buckle. Cheekily copied by Karrimor on the 2011 Pattern made ECM Rucksack. I've never seen a Bergbuckle that adjusts BOTH ways - my Vulcan must be an older version.

In The Swedish Marines we used the sidepockets as fightingpacks, we had what we needed for a days fighting.

Hope it hasn't caused you a problem. If I were using webbing I'd tighten the lower pouch internal 'sphincter' (where I suppose the sleeping system is meant to go) and have nothing in the lower compartment, leaving it flaccid. That way a) it wouldn't clash with webbing rear pouches and b) if the bosses give you more crap to carry you still have spare space to cram in the kit. Hope this helps... and helps other military types thinking of getting one.

Hi, I’ve got a Vulcan 2 actually in nearly mint condition, never used in anger. If I sent it to you, could you fit the zips on the front? Great idea, love it

Just zip all 3 patrol packs together.....and when your berghaus is full the 3 packs will be solid as a rock...did that for many years in the infantry..

Thanks for the video. I'm going to be using one of these when I do my hike across the States.

Atleast the Finnish coastal jaeger recon patrols use the daysack configuration. They keep essential items in the sidepockets, so it's easy and fast to zip up the daysack and go for patrols etc, and leave the bergen itself to a cache or base.

hey do you know if the mmps hydration pocket fits onto the front of the berghaus vulcan cyclops ii ?
@andystuart49317 жыл бұрын
Hi Ben, the video was produced so long ago i wouldn't be able to give you a definitive yes or no. I can tell you that the camelbak hydration system would sit comfortably in front of the rear pocket. Sorry i cant be of more help...

Buy a cheap/damaged side pouch and remove the zip strips.

Not well I'm afraid; the back is long and therefore clashes with kidney/utility pouches as far as I remember from my infantry time. That said it's an excellent bergen. Buy them second-hand on eBay; they last forever.

In true "Blue Peter" fashion. It's a TV show. Blue pizza tastes somewhat bitter... ;-)
