The most impressive thing I see is the heat welding. What kind of material are you using prior to sealing it with a heat gun? It doesn't look like there are any screws holding the vents down before or after sealing the protrusions.

Please understand, curbs and roof components we fabricate are proprietary to us. We design and build were necessary to prevent the root cause from arising again. Curbs used on one coach may be different for curbs used on another. IE: Some AC units are bolted directly into the roof with lag bolts....not a good idea... always leaks. We designed a different curb for those type units

This man is a pro. I am a retired roofing contractor and curbs are a basic specification for a flat roof of any kind. The Roofs installed by this Company are far superior to the manufacturers initial roof on any RV. Putting more & more Dicor overpriced self leveling caulking is as the man says for Morons.

Is there any chance you can do a video demonstrating how you're doing the flashing, and exactly what steps you're going through when you install the vents and AC? Or maybe point me to one already done?

I'm not sure I'm following your question. Are you asking if we can show how to build the curbs?
@justintaylor4471
@justintaylor4471 4 жыл бұрын
@@RVROOFINSTALL I don't know what a curb is? I'm thinking you're just adding a little bit of lift to the vents and other protrusions from the roof, and then you're "double sealing" which I'm not quite sure where and how it's double sealed. I watched a couple and I think I see how the back flashing is done. I'm a ways away from redoing the roof. I just want to do it right so I don't have to do it again. Any help would be appreciated.

@@RVROOFINSTALL I realize that. And thanks for your time. Your videos and quality of work is amazing - not trying to steal anything or get anything for free - just trying to make sure I do mine the best I can. I live in Oregon, and I'm a salmon fishing guide who lives year around in an RV. I bought a 40' toy hauler and the inside looked great, until I had to fix the paneling, and now I've rebuilt the back end walls, rebuilding the main slideout, rebuilt the small slideout. The roof has soft spots (in one area, whoever installed the satellite dish used cable ties on top of the roof, screwed down, with a little dab of dicor over them, as if that was going to do anything). The skylight is cracked on the edges and I need to replace. I've stopped the leaks (I think) for now. Roof replacement will commence sometime in the spring or fall. I know you're not in this for DIY, but seeing how it's supposed to be done is helpful nonetheless. I wish I had the money to send it across the country and be able to pay you to do it (at least then I'm confident it would be done exactly correct). I'm guessing at some things and learning a lot as I go. I watch a lot of videos, and as far as I'm concerned, you're the only one doing it right, with an attention to detail second to none. That being said, it's not an option for me. I was just trying to get some ideas on how to do it right so I can concentrate back on fishing and not worry about whether the roof is going to collapse on me anytime soon. I'm not going to waste anymore of your time. For what it's worth, I still think you're doing an amazing job.

What are your thoughts on using Zip sheathing under the membrane?
@RVROOFINSTALL
@RVROOFINSTALL Жыл бұрын
You could use Zip if you wanted to. I am a proponent for plywood. I only use OSB if the coach is over 8ft wide. If you do thebroof correctly it shouldn't leak so you won't have rotted would. I am guessing we are talking about a truss roof and not a plygoam roof.
@wnybricky1559
@wnybricky1559 Жыл бұрын
@@RVROOFINSTALL yes. Truss roof over aluminum framing. More concerned with bond of the glue to the zip. Thinking the benifit would be somewhat of a insurance with roof damage and hopefully catching the damage before the roof is rotted. Appreciate the response.
@RVROOFINSTALL
@RVROOFINSTALL Жыл бұрын
@@wnybricky1559 I haven't dealt with ZIP much but I would be concerned if they have some sort of coating that would prevent the glue from sticking. Plywood may be stronger but it would depend on the resin in the zip. As a rule plywood has more tensile strength that OSB. We use 1/2 inch BC.

@@jasenyelton1736 There are different foams for different applications. Some are fillers some are adhesives. Foams also come in different ratings, such as 4ib foam would be harder stronger than a 2 lb foam as a filler Some are slow rise and some will rise quickly. It all depends on your application, working time and the goal you want to achieve. Are you trying to adhere or fill? If you are trying to do both then you would need an adhesive froth oak type foam. Several manufacturers make this type foam. We used a slow rise foam filler adhesive on the Four Winds Siesta... but that'll set you back $1,000.

look at the insolation it thin in spots allover like they just pulled a rool apart once all the wiring and ac ducting was done it should be buble wrapped with foil wrapped and taped then just spray the roof let it cure 24 shave it with the shaving toolthen put real plywood like 5/8 then toung and grove it they should try putting one coat of fiber glass and run it up all the openings all most to the top leave the frunt and rear caps off and fill the gap so it slides over just right when the roof is all lade they should use the duble sided ruber roof seam tape under the gutter and trim once you put it down its never coming off and why not use a thicker sheet of aluminum roofthat been bent to go under the caps and down the sids use a thicker glue that dose not harden then on the sky lights the ac unit fans cut the aluminum flush with the openings then build the framing then use seam tape all around it and a inch on the aluminum roof then wrap the framing in aluminum flashing then use big streach after you paint the aluminum roof what ever color they want like white that seam tape is sticky I have used it on my roofs and it has never failed me I get the 6in rool its black when it het hot it sticks better and it dose not crack.the idea is to lay it and it stay for 50 years.

You are taking a dump truck to the grocery store. Some roofs are plyfoam but what you are talking about is extremely expensive , add too much weight and wouldn't make a difference if you are suggesting that we did not do a thorough job. 5/8 decking is way to heavy for a camper and the other molding and pieces wont fit proper unless you remake those as well. Not worth the effort or expense. If it were prudent and necessary to do what you are suggesting I would trek that road but it isn't...it's just overkill. If you add another 500 lbs to a coach then that is 500 lbs of something they can not take. like water and food, chairs tables, whatever. The coaches have a weight and load limit. Going by what you are suggesting I should just do a poured concrete roof or maybe a piece as slab of steel. This is a camper not a skyscraper or bridge. Thanks for watching jus the same.
