Sometimes it's a good idea to rewatch the volumes so that you can have them fresh on your mind when you start to watch the next ones. You'll pick up on things you hadn't noticed before. For example, there was a question everyone had about something that happened in volume 2. (Not a spoiler. I just notice that a lot of reactors forget about what happened and what their reaction to it was. Even the little things are noticed by RT.) A subtle explanation for it is shown in volume 4. If you're paying attention to it you might catch it. I won't say more about it until I bring your attention to it later. It's one of the unique things that they do. I've yet to see any other shows do it as much as they do. Especially when it comes to explaining things, after they shock the viewer when they happen, with it seeming like it's coming out of the blue.

Oh, I forgot to mention, be sure to watch the RWBY Chibi season 1. It came out between volume 3 and 4. Kind of as a healing salve for the wound they gave everyone with the end of V3. It's strictly short, funny skits. You may want to react to them or just watch them on their own. Many reactors do react to them. They're no more than 5 min each. Many react to 3 or 4 each video. Either way, enjoy them.

I love what a fan of RWBY Marketa has become. Her reaction to Blake losing her head was priceless. I've seen her (and Rana) shed tears over the show. It really is a testament to how good the show has become to this point. The animation, the story, the voice acting is all real top notch work. And Lindsay Jones delivers such a goosebump chilling performance in this episode.

Loved Rana’s discussion of Pyrrha, she is like a leaf on the wind.... Ruby is late to save her friend two times while her semblance is speed, some Greek tragedy irony. I had the same reaction at Ruby's "I love you." to Yang, and her not getting a response. Ozpin's duel was one of the fucking coolest sounding things in RWBY I've heard. And the score, every single music cue in this volume was fucking perfect. Blake Belladonna. The girl who ran. This is something she believes innate to herself: “I was born with the ability to leave behind a shadow of myself - an empty copy that takes the hit while I run away!” A truly spectacular finale. Yang felt abandoned by her mother, and now she’s lost an arm while her sister, uncle, and partner disappeared to places unknown. Pyrrha had no special power aside from her semblance which was polarity and she was a great warrior. Her name implies a pyrrhic victory which is a victory with a devastating toll on the victor to the point where it doesn't feel like a victory. So her sacrifice has always been foreshadowed. So it's mentioned in season 1 and then never mentioned again, but the black glow around Pyrrha is her semblance, Polarity. It allows her to control magnetism and, by extension, metal. It's how she moved the elevator up to the top floor, and it's how she killed Penny accidentally. Because Emerald made her hallucinate that there were thousands of swords in the air, Pyrrha used her semblance with a lot more force than was needed, which caused the actual swords (which are attached to Penny by cable-like strings) to go flying backwards very quickly. Because of how strong the cables were, when Penny got wrapped up in them they tore her body apart. The first time we see Pyrrha's semblance is in Forever Fall, where she uses it to raise Jaune's shield so it blocks an attack that would have otherwise hit him.

Actually, the first time we see her semblance is in her character introduction. She pins Juane to the wall when he creeps out Weiss, and she never touches her sword to bring it out. It just comes out of the wall and to her hand. It's quick, but she never touched the weapon to retrieve it

That's one thing that they never mess up on. The CG, the voice acting, the story progression, can use some work sometimes but they nail the music every time. I can't say that I love all of the intros and outros, but I've never once thought that a particular scene had the wrong music or needed a little something more from the music to make the scene work better. From the first volume through the 8th, they get the music right every time. They time each part of the music to the scenes very well. There are some movies that could learn something from them.

no offence i know it must be hard to notice certain details while watching in a group and trying to commentate but you guys have missed a lot of details pointed out multiple times e.g. the 'ninja' is yangs mom and has been established, yang and ruby are half sisters and have different mums (rwbys is the one at the gravestone she visits, pyrrhas 'dark magic' was her sembelance that she always had and used previously , neopolitan isnt the singer of the songs (neopolitan's character is mute so she doesnt have a voice actor) and ozpin is presumed as 'lost' even by qrow thats why he has his staff.

Regarding Penny, a lot of people at the time speculated that "she's a robot" and "they can rebuild her", to the point that Rooster Teeth came out and specified that they may be able to make a robot that looks like Penny, but the true miracle of Penny was that she had an aura, which is to say a soul. Silver-eyed warriors can pertrified grimms like Ruby and Summer. The bird in Yang's window is not Qrow/a crow.. its Raven/a raven. The speech of the "narrator" has some meaning. Pyrrha has a fighting chance if Cinder dont have the Fall Maiden power.. Volume 4 will reveal some great things 😂 PS. The lore of RWBY is awesome. Pyrrha is why I excuse the "Jaune Arc" from Volume 1 lasting so long. With their whole team being cross-dressing heroes who died, having the first one explored (Cardin Winchester bullying Jaune vs the story of the Cardinal of Winchester burning Joan of Arc at the stake) be light-hearted-ish really deterred us from thinking Pyrrha (Achilles, who..... you know) would go. Even once she got hit in the heel, they left some room for "Ruby might make it".

An Excerpt from u/Shockz0rz "Do you believe in destiny?" We first heard this line from Pyrrha way back in V3C8--"Destiny", appropriately enough--when she was voicing her worries to Jaune about getting into the Maiden-O-Matic pod and having Amber's soul zapped into hers. We find out immediately thereafter that Pyrrha has kind of a strange definition of "destiny": She doesn't believe in any sort of predestined fate; rather, she believes your destiny is something you make for yourself, something you work towards your entire life. (I've had one person tell me that this is closer to the classical meaning of "destiny", as opposed to the modern meaning, where it's pretty much a synonym of "fate". Dunno if that's true, but it wouldn't surprise me.) And Pyrrha believes her destiny is to protect Remnant. Not any specific person or group; no, Pyrrha thinks big. She wants to protect the world. Initially she thought she'd do that by becoming a huntress; later, despite her misgivings, she thought she'd accomplish it by becoming the Fall Maiden. Cut to V3C12. Everything's gone to shit. Beacon is being overrun by Grimm, Cinder's put an arrow through Amber's heart and claimed the full power of the Fall Maiden, and Ozpin's just told Pyrrha and Jaune to GTFO before Cinder kills them both. And as the two of them run outside, they hear something that sounds distinctly like a homicidal Fall Maiden flying up an elevator shaft. Unpursued. And right at that moment, something clicks in Pyrrha's mind. This is it, she realizes. This is what I have to do. There's no rational reasoning behind it, no particular logic that tells her she will succeed where Ozpin failed. Just...faith. Faith that her destiny, her life goal of protecting Remnant, lies at the top of that tower. Jaune doesn't get it, of course. That kind of faith rarely makes sense from an outside perspective. She can't explain it; all she can do is break both their hearts with a first--and last--kiss. Then she shoves him into the rocket locker and sends him away for help, and Magnetos her way up to the top of the tower. The fight that follows, of course, is quite possibly the greatest of the entire show so far. We see Pyrrha, impossibly, hold her own against a fully empowered Fall Maiden. And for just a moment, we believe, and see her believe, that she might win, or at least last long enough for help to arrive--especially when we see that Ruby and Weiss are on their way. Then comes the arrow to the heel. We all know Pyrrha's based on Achilles; we know she's screwed now. Cinder walks over and starts gloating, but when Pyrrha looks up at her-- She hasn't given up. There's no despair, nor even the slightest hint of uncertainty in her face. She looks Cinder straight in the eye, defiant to the last, and asks her, "Do you believe in destiny?" She knows she's lost. She knows she's probably about to die. Yet that same unshakable faith remains: she doesn't know how, or why, but she knows that even if she dies here, she will not have died for nothing. Somehow, she will die fulfilling her destiny. Somehow, in death, she will save Remnant. I don't watch Red vs. Blue--something I intend to remedy as soon as I finish writing this--but a monologue from that show has been brought to my attention for the parallels it has with Pyrrha's situation here. "There are so many stories where some brave hero decides to give their life to save the day, and because of their sacrifice, the good guys win, the survivors all cheer, and everybody lives happily ever after. But the hero...never gets to see that ending. They'll never know if their sacrifice actually made a difference. They'll never know if the day was really saved. In the end, they just have to have faith. Ain't that a bitch." I don't know the context for that monologue--something about an AI sacrificing itself, I think?--but Pyrrha's situation and last words are a parallel and a counterpoint to this speech at the same time. Pyrrha not only has no way of knowing if her sacrifice will actually make a difference, she doesn't even know how it would. And yet the sentiments expressed in that speech probably never even cross her mind, because she had that faith. Even lying there, defeated and broken, she still believes with all her heart that this is the destiny she's been working towards her whole life. "Yes." Cinder's one-word reply is almost as meaningful despite its brevity. I wish I could start this off by pointing out that it looks like she's starting to cry as she says this, but sadly it's been pointed out to me that the "tears" are just reflections in her eyes, visible in many other close-ups. ANYWAY! Recall that Pyrrha's definition of "destiny" is pretty weird, almost the opposite of what it's usually taken to mean nowadays. The odds are pretty low that Cinder shares the same definition. In other words, what Cinder is saying here is the opposite of what Pyrrha meant. She's saying that her victory here at the tower was fate. That everything that happened here--Yang's framing, Pyrrha's accidental killing of Penny, the White Fang/Grimm attack, Cinder's claiming of the Fall Maiden's powers, the fall of Beacon--all of it was predestined, inevitable, unstoppable, and by extension so is her master's eventual victory over all of Remnant. In agreeing with Pyrrha, then, she's denying Pyrrha's unshakable faith. She's saying that everything Pyrrha has done to try and stop her has been pointless, that her suicidal blaze of glory has accomplished nothing. And immediately thereafter, she tries to prove the point by ending Pyrrha's life then and there. If only she'd listened to a quote from her creator. "I believe that the human spirit is indomitable. If you endeavor to achieve, it will happen given enough resolve. It may not be immediate, and often your greater dreams is something you will not achieve within your own lifetime. The effort you put forth to anything transcends yourself, for there is no futility even in death." -- Monty Oum, 2012 I'm sure you all will agree that the prescience of this quote is...a little unnerving, to say the least. But regardless of its relevance to Monty's own life and work, it's the theme that lies at the very core of this scene. Pyrrha, broken but defiant to the last, is dealt a mortal blow, then reduced to ashes upon the wind. And for a moment it looks as if Cinder was right, as if Pyrrha's faith in her destiny was misplaced, that she has died for nothing. But there to witness her death is little silver-eyed Ruby Rose, who unknowingly held within herself a power that Cinder, so confident in the inevitability of her victory, never could have expected or accounted for. If Pyrrha had never climbed that tower, perhaps Ruby would have unlocked her powers eventually. But it would have likely taken far longer--time that Salem and Cinder would use to capitalize upon their victory, perhaps even move upon the other kingdoms. But Pyrrha's sacrifice, at that moment, directly resulted in the Grimm dragon being removed from play, and in Ruby discovering that she is far more powerful than she could have ever imagined. And I suspect that Cinder did not get away unscathed, either. Pyrrha never got the chance to see her faith rewarded, to see that her death there paved the way to victory. But she didn't need to see. What I really like about this finale is it finally sets stakes. Vol. 1-3 are very much light hearted in nature and that’s fine, that’s what draws people in to the world and caring about these characters. The thing with Phyrra is that this is what she was designed for. She was created to be the perfect warrior, the best the heroes had to offer (amongst the students anyhow). She was made so taht when she eventually fell, it would establish the power scaling and prove the villans to be a threat. After all what is more demoralising than sending your best fighter and having her be defeted without the villan even really breaking a sweat.
