7:25 Omfg that was hilarious XD Edit: Willow made a good point on her son. Whitley was left alone with an egomaniacal father and an alcoholic mother. He resents Weiss and Winter, because they got to go do their own thing while he was stuck with them. He is jealous, but he's also wounded because he feels like his sisters just up and left him behind. The kid is a brat, but he's still just a kid who's had a terrible hand dealt to him in terms of having a shoulder to lean on. I also really love that Weiss acknowledges this when she looks at the portrait of Jacques. She of all people should be the most sympathetic to Whitley since the two of them are closer in age and she was around longer than Winter was during his childhood.

Watts turned of the Mantle’s heating grid. Weiss explained earlier this season that the cold of Solitas(the continent that Mantle and Atlas are on) is so extreme that without heating or an aura it can be lethal. Miles who’s one of the writers said previously that Solitas is effectively Remnant’s version of Antarctica as the coldest landmass on the planet. The heating grid is vital to the survival of the citizens of Mantle and it had been melting the snow turning it to rain, but once the heating was off the snow simply didn’t melt.
@daysand1232 жыл бұрын
The most easy to miss Jesus christ moment is how easily Weiss gets called out on how poorly she treated her brother. Up to this point the camera makes you think he's being a dick but in reality. Look at Weiss in Volume 1. She keeps that attitude towards her brother in V4 then gets a quick "what did you expect?" Retort from him when she practically accuses him of doing something and he's just like "bitch you played yourself." Whitley literally did nothing wrong and has actually been a victim and her mom pointed it out hard. Maybe Weiss grew but she clearly didn't grow enough at this point. Her sister is a perfectionist militant shit talker. She is a perfectionist wannabe princess shit talker. You'd think she might pick up on these tenses for the opposite gender in her own family. Especially given thats all Whitley has. He does have superpowers like his sisters so he's had to use his snark and smarts alone to survive their fathers bullshit unlike them. Who seemingly have snark but not too much smarts with how well their super powers carry them.

One thing I love about this is the depiction of trauma and the recovery and everything. Yes, Whitley hates Weiss more than his mother or father. Weiss has never hurt Whitley, but often people in abusive families will resent the one who simply didn't STOP the abuse, more than the actual abuser. Weiss left him there alone, and this probably the same reason he never liked Winter either. It probably got progressively worse for him each time a sibling left, but he puts most of that on Weiss because for a time it was the two of them against their father. Two of them living through hell. Then she left him alone. And poor Willow is stuck in her life and drinking to cope, and just wants her kids to leave. Maybe she's even being distant to them for their benefit; if they have no one loving them/keeping them tethered to the family like this, then they can leave and be free without regret. She's not asking Weiss to come back, she's asking her to take her brother with her. To free him too. Also I love that it is all very subtle as the show is building. You know Weiss's mom is an alcoholic and it bothers her because it's been mentioned, reinforced, etc. every season, with either a comment or a look like in season 6 when Ruby was mentioning the wine cellar and how her uncle wasn't coping well so she wanted to hide it from him; Weiss has a look like "oh... right... yeah..." because she knows what that is like too, to have someone you love be an alcoholic. RWBY is such a good show even with all its flaws/slower seasons. But the thing about RWBY is you can't just watch one season and know/understand everything. Watch a volume alone and you're utterly lost/confused and probably thinking there's no real character development, but watching it in its entirety, you see how far everyone comes and understand the payoffs for something planted volumes ago. This show has some really good foreshadowing. It's not even just the plot/characters either, it's the music. Rewatching the show and hearing the instrumental themes for each character? You don't notice it on the first pass through because like with Qrow, you might get their theme very early on but not actually hear the song/lyrics/realise it's actually about them/connected to them until sometime later. And then it makes the rewatch so much better because you pick up on all the hints and understand the themes/music. RWBY is a weird show. Not a bad weird, but weird in that you can't just explain why it's great. You can't explain by just showing a friend an episode or season. You can't even explain it by just watching the actual show because it's the entirety of RWBY which makes it all come together. The soundtrack is vital and gives you BIG foreshadowing moments all the way back from the very first trailer. The character shorts aren't VITAL, but knowing them really brings things home together. And an outsider looking it can't understand why we all love this show so much because they haven't gone through the entire ride. RWBY is unique; everything fleshes things out, moves the plot forward, etc. EVERYTHING. Every character short, all the background music, character themes, the history of the show, the Remnant shorts... This show is unique because it starts out so silly; you're just having a good time listening to the jokes, watching the fight scenes, etc. Then suddenly the plot thickens and you are INVESTED even though it was just some silly show with good fights. With all original music. honestly this is my favourite part of watching people react to the show; you see them literally go through this. Just "man these fight scenes are great, I want to see more" to "hey this isn't what I was expecting, okay this is decent even if the art style keeps throwing me off" in the earlier seasons, to by the end of season 3 being traumatised because they got SO invested and were shattered by the end of it. People starting volume 4 are always just as traumatised as the characters and that is just good storytelling. RWBY literally just sucks you in and doesn't let go, and yeah volume 5 is rough to sit through sometimes but the fact we are even judging it like that is amazing really. This isn't some actual TV show but we are judging it like it is, and that just means it's really come so far since its beginning. This show gets a lot of flak. People have taken to really judging it since volume 3 and I feel like people forget it ISN'T an actual TV show. It's a web series. But people are judging it like it's an actual show and that means the quality improved so much that it was almost detrimental to the show and that's just amazing to me. But I feel like people do forget that the reason it wasn't judged so harshly in early volumes is because it was a fun series created by someone passionate about it but without a Giant budget like most TV shows/movies, and so they simply state it was just awful starting after those volumes. But this show is SOOOO detailed. The artwork, the dialogue, the story, the music, it all comes together and nothing is random. The bit in volume 6 with Adam's face reveal should verify this. No one mentions Adam's scar, no one says anything about it at all, but the MOMENT you see the SDC? You KNOW it's Schnee Dust Company and you immediately KNOW the backstory. It is NEVER stated, but you KNOW. That's far from the only example, but it's my favourite. A good story is always "Show, don't tell" and this show has that in SPADES. We don't need someone to sit us down and hold our hands when Adam's face is revealed. It's reinforced next volume when they're in the mines and everything is SDC. Which brings me back to trauma. This show NEVER comes out and says "yeah they're traumatised because this". No. Yang loses an arm because she's always been relying too much on her semblance? Here's a couple volumes with her NOT using her semblance, learning to fight smarter, almost afraid to rely on it because while it had never failed her in the past, it DID fail and she DID lose an arm and she is scared to have to use it. Because what if it FAILS? Ruby got caught without her weapon and it led to her being unable to fight Mercury and save Penny? She carries it EVERYWHERE. She shows up to Haven with her weapon, with everyone's weapons, and Lionhart was confused by them bringing their weapons to a simple meeting in a school where it is supposed to be safe, at least to their knowledge. She will NEVER get caught without her weapon again. There are obviously more examples. I could go on. But I won't. But this show does trauma so well. No one has really sat down and talked about it but you can see how they've been hurt, how they've tried to heal, what it means moving forward for them, etc. And the majority of it is all done without expressly stating anything. And I am HERE for it.

Fun Facts Fact 1: One of the cars that arrives at the manor has a hood ornament shaped like a dromaeosaur, most likely a Velociraptor. This is likely a reference to RWBY Rex. Fact 2: Dustin Matthews noted that, when Winter slams her fist onto the table, the camera is angled in such a way that it looks as though Winter "crushes" Jacques. This, along with the shot of Weiss through Willow's vodka bottle, are his favorite shots in the episode. Fact 3: At the table, Jacques' chair is larger than the other characters'. Fact 4: Another power move of Jacques was to only give a few people wine as well as not giving any food to Penny. Fact 5: Miles wrote the gag of Team JNPR sabotaging Whitley's conversation with Weiss and expected it to take only a few seconds, but as more people worked on it the longer it got. Fact 6: In addition, Miles wanted to portray when Weiss is talking to Willow that she doesn't really know how to act around an adult with such an adult issue. Fact 7: None of the Writers initially expected Penny and Winter to have such a deep bond during this volume.
