Assuming it doesn't shatter every bone in your body since you _don't_ have an aura, you tell me why it would take some time to recover from that blow.

Cinder burning the image of Ruby is meant to emphasize her obsession with Ruby at this point. Cinder's story in this volume is to act in contrast to the rest of the characters. For the main characters, this volume is about moving forward and not allowing what happened in the past to control them. That is also symbolized in the final fight in this chapter with Ren's story of having to not allow his rage and anger about his parents death to control him. When he finally calms down and is thinking more clearly, then they are able to defeat it. With Cinder, she is allowing what happened with Ruby and her silver eyes to control her. She is less confident, sees herself as more vulnerable, and is obsessed with getting revenge on the girl who hurt and disfigured her.

Right. I think one of the best things about this volume was it had more visual storytelling as compared to previous volumes, like that moment where Cinder witnesses Tyrian go crazy on the grimm. It is basically a moment where she is like "Is this my future?" I feel like they really helped Cinder become a better character in this volume because of these developments.

It could also be a moment of fear from what caused Tyrian's distressed. The guy was sent to capture a little girl, and come back his severed tail between his legs. During all the volume Cinder is a weakend state after she got beaten by Ruby, and Salem's treatment doesn't work as well as planned considering how much frustrated Salem is. All the while, Ruby is getting stronger (or so it appears, since Tyrian didn't details what happened). So Cinder .need even more than before to get her strength back, and she lets her hatred for the siler-eyed girl drives her.

No one really has Monty Oum's talent in choreographing these group fights at this point. I do wish they'd put more effort into what the non-focused characters are doing in the fight so it doesn't feel like they're just standing around, but I guess that's very difficult to work out, particularly when framing the shots to show stuff clearly. Them standing there planning is more of the "talking is a free action" trope that sort of is pretty common. I do wish we'd see their plans develop more clearly though (I'm not even sure at what point Ren ended up with Jaune's shield!).

The reason Jaune didn't use his new sword mode against Tyrian is the reason Qrow didn't use his scythe mode against him: it was ill-suited for that fight. Jaune needed the extra weight and power behind his swings to more easily cut through this Grimm. Also, while it's not exactly slow, it's definitely slower than Tyrian, and it leaves itself much more open. Jaune was already slower than Tyrian, and the bigger sword would have just made him even slower. Tactically, there was no reason to use it then. Now, if you were asking why he didn't use it earlier in this specific fight, as in from the get-go, I'd chock that up to him gauging the opponent. He was observing its speed, reaction time, etc., and he didn't bust out the new sword mode until he got in a clean hit, probably his first of the fight, and realized that its body was tough enough that he needed the extra power.

What I will say about Ruby's voice over is that I don't really see it as exposition. Ruby isn't really giving us any new information in her letter voice over, but more framing what happened. Also, I know you said you watched some Red vs Blue in the past. Since you are planning on reacting to Camp Camp, I would like you to see you try some more Red vs Blue. It is not 14 seasons of the same thing.

I never thought Qrow was going to die - it just seemed too anti-climatic, and Qrow is too dramatic for a death like that. Also, I think since Qrow was shown to be hallucinating earlier - remember when he was calling out for Tai before Team RRNJ split up (with Jaune in his line of sight)? He seemed to be reliving a memory. I think maybe Qrow for a moment thought Jaune was Tai, and that's why Qrow grabbed onto his hand. I'm really hoping for a Team STRQ flashback soon.

I can understand your comments about the "standing around" in the group fights, but you have to remember, those were Monty's specialty. He did the majority of those personally (the little one on one scuffles were given to the other animators to finish up) but the battles were here he'd spend 72 hours straight at the studio doing nothing but animating them, doing the mo-cap and tweeking everything so it was as near perfect as he could make it. Unfortuantely, that sort of talent is extremely rare and so far RT hasn't found anyone who can recreate that sort of thing to a level that work.

They lost a genius level talent with Monty's death; he had a remarkable ability for keeping track of the fight choreography and visualizing how the multi-member fight animation would work. You're right, you don't replace that type of a loss overnight, if ever. You also have to grant that they did switch to an entirely new graphics engine (and so lost a lot of their scripting and shortcuts they had built up with Poser... see the Volume 2 production diaries where they talk about those) and also had the entire department physically picked up and moved during the course of this year, so I think some falloff in addition to the steep cliff of Monty's loss was to be at a point expected.

I totally agree about the learning curve to Maya. I only just learnt that they have to manually animate a lot of the texture movements eg; Ren's hair moving. That's gotta take a lot of time to do for all those types of things for every model in every scene.

Two things - fist, the reason that Cinder faced the image of Ruby on her knees is that when Ruby encountered her and defeated her, that was the last thing of her that Cinder saw before it happened. It had more to do with overcoming her fear and stoking her anger than anything else. Second, Watts being the one to meet with Lionheart shouldn't be a surprise - Salem gave them each their assignments in Episode 1 and Watts' was to meet with their informant in Mystral. Hazel, the big guy, was supposed to go meet up with the leader of the White Fang.

the ending clearly show that Prof. LionHeart is Salem's informant. So, No Safe Haven even headmaster there being coward and work with Salem. Only Ozpin are the only one headmaster that play as savior from this evil.

The original idea was to split each season into two volumes, hence why Volume 1 was a full semester while Volumes 2 and 3 split the second semester of Team RWBY's first year at Beacon. That concept was discarded during Volume 2 when they realized the volume was getting too full and the entire tournament arc was shifted to Volume 3. Now each Volume is considered the equivalent of a season. Also, yes, the intros change each Volume. They are "This Will Be the Day", "Time to Say Goodbye", "When it Falls", and now "Let's Just Live"

Story time Dad was right, the first 3 volumes were season 1, from now on it's every 2 volumes = one season. So Vol. 4 and 5 will be season 2. Monty, Miles, and Kerry set it up that way, though a lot of people call them seasons anyway. However it's done by volumes because the story arcs are made up of multiple volumes. And each arc they are calling a season. So vol 1-3 was the Beacon Arc, and season one. Now there's this arc, which will be two volumes, and same will be for future arcs. It can be confusing lol. But another great reaction from all of you as usual.

Salem said in the previous chapter that Cinder was holding back, so maybe watching Ruby would give her the strength needed to stop holding. She's training to master her powers, she already knows how to fight.

Unfortunately that's very true. And that will happen when you lose both the creator of the show and one of its best animators. The animation in this show is still fantastic and well above most animes but while the animation quality took a huge leap forward in Volume 3 and 4, the fight scenes took a huge step back in Volume 3 and especially 4. For instance, compare Yang vs Neo and the fight in Volume 3, Chapter 5.

Group fights and choreography were Monty's thing so it's understandable that it's worse. Although they do need alot of work on that. I also thought Raven would save Qrow and they'd have to work for her. I thought eventually it would be Qrow and Ruby vs Raven and Yang would have to choose.

Well if you want to read body language, Salems diplomat put his feet on the hosts coffee table and was very smug. Doesn't sound much like negotiations as it sounds like a demand. Going off the Wizard of Oz theme, the Lion lacked courage. So perhaps he is trying to spare Mistral by taking up with Salem. Historically from the world of remnant seems like he did something similiar with the bans on emotion from Atlas (since head masters are more powerful than career politicians it seems). Instead of getting into a fight with their ally Atlas, they just made Mistral the exception and all of Haven had to suffer. That's just my two bits.

From what I've been hearing from other reactors (Popcult Podcast for one) they just send you to a FAQ and there's nothing they can really do. It's the YT bots so sometimes editing is needed. Remember what Oobleck said in Volume 2? "I think your sniper rifle will only agitate a grimm of that size." I think that larger and elder grimm need a lot more firepower to actually hurt, or a melee attack infused with aura, as all huntsmen do. Which is my explanation for why the guns didn't hurt the nuckelavee, just distracted and annoyed it.

Remember, Monte was the one who did the fight choreography before he passed. I can't imagine there are many people who could duplicate what he did, let alone many whom Rooster Teeth could get. I do think the choreography improved over the course of the volume (obviously there are still flaws like you all mentioned). But I thought it was really bad at the beginning of volume 4.

I definitely agree that there's a problem with characters standing around. I believe it happened in every fight this volume. A quick example would be just after Jaune picks up Qrow and the Grimm charges. You'd expect Jaune to start carrying him off immediately, but he sits and waits. On top of that, it's as though the other characters don't exist when off-screen (why didn't Ruby zoom in with her semblance and prepare to defend her uncle's life?) It makes the characters feel apathetic at best, and brain dead at worst.

One of the major changes in how they choreographed the fights is the Passing of series creator Monty Oum in February 2016, He was a major part of planning out the fight scenes and they are still figuring out their style, this is much more apparent in RvB.

Part of the loss of the choreography loss is the loss of Monty since he was in big part the main choreographer for the fights so they are still definitely try to make up for his loss in that part, but they've managed well considering how much of a genius Monty was with that. (Go look at some of his videos like Dead Fantasy, Haloid, and some of his Red vs Blue stuff like the introduction of Tex which is S8E10)

Ending was great. Dr. Wott met his informate, Prof Lionheart, the headmaster. Seeing that the doctor was there you can guess he may or may not of cured Qrow. Which could be a bad thing seeing as Tirian knew him.

Couple things, i think Cinder was 1) Taking a break when she killed the fake ruby, as you see grim laying around her and 2) She was using her right arm, which she was hesitant to use when we saw her fighting grim before, so maybe just getting use to the feeling.

one thing I think you guys aren't considering is that you need to think of a plan. it was a new Grimm they're dealing with and couldn't go in hastily. which Jaune knew. he told Ren to chill out. formulating new ideas right off the bat isn't that easy. and it's more of so "thinking of what comes next" sure it may seem improbable during a real encounter with a person, but a grimm isn't the same thing.. it's not like you'd suddenly go charging in at a lion because it's about to attack. also the animators aren't a crafty in the angles as Monty was, but it's not that bad. I think I remember hearing a lead animator for RWBY left..so the closest to what we saw before isn't gonna happen, but one thing to consider is the story telling. the acting isn't always going to satisfy everyone.. whether it's in English or Japanese.. Because Qrow sounds weird in Japanese... seriously lol also Juane was seen to think fast in the team. Ruby being the quick thinker in terms of reaction time and strategic planning is there, but she's stubborn still..she's gonna grow obviously, but don't expect a big " I know what to do " movement xD ...they're not super heros that can go charging in like Superman or something oh but cool reaction.. one more thing to note maybe consider the fact that this was a moving on volume..per say..a volume where the characters was getting over what they lost...YOU KNOW >~< I'm sure everyone has said it by now

I realize you hear about this theory all the time but please take a moment to read something I've never seen anyone bring up when talking about Qrow being Rubys Dad. In episode 1 of volume 1, Ruby and Ozpin have conversation. Its important to note that hes aware of who Ruby is as well as Qrow, Summer etc. So why does he have a reaction of shock/puzzlement /confusion when Ruby says Her Uncle Qrow taught her. Note that at this point hes mentioned qrow, seen the video of her at the dust shop, and already heard her say she learned it at beacon. Its not until she mentions "Uncle Qrow" that his expression changes. He then takes a sip from his cup while pondering what she just said. Its not very significant yes, but neither was "you have silver eyes" until it was.

They gave everyone guns because it makes up for the long range weakness that a melee weapon provide. If you are only close combat fighter your weakness is obviously range, so by adding gun/range you minimize your weaknesses.....

Yeah, the standing around is slightly off putting. But I do think they will get better. Eventually, we'll get great choreography back. Not the same type, but still... The show overall is improving. They are improving one thing at a time. The helicopter ex Machina was... troubling, but it also makes a whole lot of sense.

I actually like storytime boy's comments - there's no point in watching a reaction when they're silent or fake. It just confirms that the show is less enjoyable due to many reasons, still enjoyable, but less so. Nevertheless, I'm sure CRWBY are capable of improving the show as they have proven for the previous volumes.

It's actually the welsh pronunciation. W is pronounced as a long U in that language. So there's no difference in pronunciation of Rwby (Welsh) and Ruby (English) (Though Rwby isn't a word in welsh).

I am not surprised Crow lived. Since while I am convinced he is not going to survive the whole series, it is far too early for him to be killed off. I mean, we are still at the start of Act 2, if anything the end of Act 2 would be the place where he dies.

*Fair Warning*: CampCamp, as funny as it may be, is what most people would consider to be "a little over PG-13", mostly because of its frequent strong language. Other than that it's just your regular comedy show with occacional cartoon violence, crude humor, minimal blood, partial nudity, Michael Jones, sexual references, minimal suggestive themes, explicit lyrics, and Episode 5: Journey to Spooky Island(don't ask). Nothing kids this days aren't used to. Side Note: Am I the only one who actually enjoys Storytime Boy's contributions? His remarks usually make a lot of sense, and whenever he's not in a video I feel like we're just given half the product (even though it's technically two thirds)

I didn't like this volume's lack of plot (and man, the Ren and Nora flashback episode was SO cliche) but other than that, I did love a lot of things about this volume. I especially love how they ended the volume with a sense of hopefulness. They did a good job setting up Volume 5 - and I loved the after credits scene. Can't wait for the adventures of Qrow and Ozcar.

Agreed on the standing around in fights. I feel choreography in general lacks, especially when it's more than 3 people fighting, but also below that. The worst fight of the whole volume for me (for both animation AND choreography) was episode 3 (with Sun and Blake and the sea dragon). And I feel - like you said - whenever a group fight happens, especially if it's a couple of people vs one enemy (Tyrian, the Nuckelavee Grimm at the end) it becomes a 1v1 or 2v1 fight with the rest just standing in the background looking stupid and having horrified expressions. They become spectators rather than participants. They REALLY need to fix this. I mean Tyrian was still okay since he really was able to move around so fast and have so much skill to keep them all busy, but there were fights in there where I really thought "so... are you other guys gonna do something, or .... ?". They definitely need to improve that. Good ways to do that is either incapacitating a fighter, keeping them busy with minions/allies of the enemy and/or Grimm (I mean HEY, they have a SUPER convenient mechanic build in the world lore that says whenever fighting happens it's likely to attract (lesser) Grimm - USE IT). Other tricks involve spacial separation (you split up or are forced to split up, or are separated somehow), etc, etc. There are many ways to do this right. Hell, one PRIME example, look at Monty Oums very own "Dead Fantasy". He did SUCH AND AMAZING job handling multiple (sometimes up to 6) people that are on screen at the same time. Sure they always had a very balanced force, like 3v3 or 1v2, etc, but he managed that SO WELL. They really need to work on that. I think the voice-over at the end was mainly good because I felt it was very important for Rubys personal character development. I liked that - for a change - we actually got a glimpse of what is going on with her, because most of the season focused on Blake, Weiss, Ren, Nora and Jaune (and team RNJR in general) while Ruby herself came a bit short. Was a nice way to wrap things up with some Ruby-related thoughts. I like where her development is going. She is growing up in a very steady and natural-feeling way (well, natural given the circumstances).

I think CRWBY is just baiting the FNDM, most of whom WERE expecting that Qrow will die. They killed off Penny, Torchwick, and most of all, Pyrrha in the previous volume so they aren't afraid to kill a major character off. But RT did have a history of giving red herrings (e.g. that Platoon-inspired shot of Weiss and Ruby in V2 trailer, so everybody thought SOMETHING bad is gonna happen). I think that the next time someone 's gonna die, it will be in an unexpected manner (like with the V3 three). I just hope they do it better than Walking Dead did. PS: We never thought Pyrrha will die until she kissed Jaune. And even then, we were still holding out that she will come out okay. That's the kind of death I'm talking about...not much on the Torchwick death, though.
