Um Alexios and Kassandra are Greek not Romans, also they are the ancestors of bayak's wife, so basically All main characters from AC are descendents of Alexios/Kassandra, they are Mithios aka Bounty Hunters who hunted the the order of the ancients/cosmos the precursor to the templars.

Rome was still pretty small and new at the time so whe they conquered Greece it would make sense to copy as much as possible from a region that even though it was small, divided and always at war. It managed to last a long time and stand up to way larger enemy's
