RWBY Volume 10: Neo's Purpose.

Neo should become a lone wolf who protects herself. Not a villain, not a hero - just someone trying to survive. She’d live out the rest of her days in Vale, building a home for herself and learning to love herself. She doesn’t need to join Team RWBY, she doesn’t need to be a goon for Salem. All she needs is to be her own person.

I'm ok with villains who did bad stuff getting redemption even the worst of the worst, it's all about how good of a story of how realistic can their redemption be. Like zuko, his redemption arc is my all time favorite because it took time, development and was realistic just look at how everyone acted when zuko tried joining them. I want to like neo as a character as she has my favorite female ruby design but unfortunately currently she is just lacking a ton of depth. Could be salvaged a bit though.

Neo has depth, it was just completely ignored and made her character revolve around Roman instead. We know she likely had abusive parents and Roman helped her. Neo being a persona she created for herself to be less scared. Also that she isn’t 100% heartless. As she only is happy when someone is killed if she dislikes them. We see her around Salem and even at cinders place how she’s afraid and disgusted by all that but that’s all masked by her persona of being Neo. So she wouldn’t be afraid and she would focus on her revenge.

I see Neo coming back as Trivia Vanille. We learned in Roman’s Holiday that Trivia became Neo because she met and joined Roman as her way to escape her parents who abused her for not being perfect. “Neo” was an imaginary friend made as an outlet to her feelings, if Neo gets the reset then Neo will cease to exist. Trivia will be what’s left. And since there will be no Roman to free her from her troubles, and no parents to abuse her, Trivia will have a clean slate and free to make her own choices of what to do when she comes back to Remnant

With the way they left things off, they definitely planted the seeds for her to come back in the future but I definitely don't think it'll be as soon as Volume 10. They brought her here for a reason and left her here for a reason instead of having her come back to Remnant. I think the best conclusion for Neo would be to stay in the Ever After and fix what she has broken, like Alyx tried to do.

Things Im always gonna be salty about in RWBY - 1. Adam never being in the same room as Weiss / Ruby and having a VERY strong reaction to Blake being friends with a Schnee. 2. Yang getting bullied by the community 3. The only two fencers in the series, who are both short stacks, not having a 1 v 1 rapier fight. I feel like *if* Neo were to come back it be at the VERY end of the show where it shows her taking over the job of the Cat or maybe even The Smith. Her allusion is to Hecate, the goddess of Magic & Crossroads [ among a bunch of other things ] . I feel the Crossroads portion would be most important given the nature of The Ever After. It would not Redeem her, it would be a new - different Neo. One that has a real purpose. Maybe one that makes friends with Somewhat & Juniper. If she DID come back to the main show Id be VERY HECCN CONFUSED how she gets through the door with no attachments : |

O wait...Adam knew Blake was on a team with a Schnee and he never brought up that she was working with his enemy...Thats actually crazy. I would have thought that when he took off his bandage, he would have brought up Weiss. Strange. I still don't understand all the Yang bullying she just gets slandered on for nothing. It’s not the first time they gave one of their female antagonists a slap on the wrist for their crimes. Ilia tried to kill Blake’s parents, but she was easily forgiven. Emerald worked for Cinder, but she quickly gained everyone’s trust. It’s messed up how they’ll do this for the girls, while they kill off their male antagonists.

Blake forgave Illia because she saw herself in her - Blake isn't innocent of similar ideologies or crimes, so she wasn't the right person to pass judgment. We think main characters are inherently good, and they're not. Blake has a shadow side, Weiss was racist and self centered, Yang was easily aggravated and violent, and Ruby is happy-go lucky to a fault. The whole reason they forgive is because they see the cause behind their enemies actions -- because you have to remember Ozpin betrayed them, and had cause. Raven abandoned them, and had cause. Ironwood turned insane, but had cause. Adam was obsessed with power, but had cause. Emerald was loyal to the wrong person, but had cause. And that's the beauty of being human - there's a reason everyone does anything. And as the team sort of progress along, those lines between absolute righteousness and wrong become very blurred - especially as they begin to make those same errors. The reason why Yang and Blake told Hill about Amity is because they had killed Adam - and that's profound, because if they had arrested her at the ambush they would never have had that chance to show empathy, and earn an ally who helped save people. Adam was a villain who, no matter how much they pleaded couldn't see reason and perished as a result of his own hubris. Neo merely hindered, Illia merely played a character, Emerald merely followed - these aren't inherently evil people. Not like Salem is. And i think that's the bigger picture the team keeps in focus. Salem manipulates systems so that people find themselves in these places of sheer desperation and then uses them as she desires. And I think when you're up against a force like that you have to forgive -- if you look at Ironwood he did precisely that, focused on gaoling people against his plans, used people, and defended himself against everyone who only wanted to help because it didn't fit in the confines of the ideologies and prejudices he had. He wasn't a bad guy either, but he kept failing to see the bigger picture because he was vengeful against people who had wronged and betrayed him. And that vengeance is what skewed his ability to navigate out of the situation he was in. Sometimes, its better to leave it and work towards helping people, and hope for the best outcomes, because we all die in the end, it just depends what you want to die for that speaks volumes about your life. Also the power balance is kind of different in the world of Remnant. I would guess that in times of conflict like they are in you're more ...apathetic? to issues like these, just as you can come to some agreement with someone you don't like in an work place :/ you kind of have to be congenial by proxy if things are to go your way in the long run...

I think it would be pointless if neo didn’t get to come back in the last arc saying it’s better for her to stay I disagree because she would be a very valuable ally yes she tried to kill ruby mentally tortured her but at the same time she was blinded by revenge it would not a new character however a new outlook on life for her and I personally would love to see neo bonding with team rwby putting aside all differences for the greater good

I know that possibly now we won't even know if there will be a volume 10, but no one ever mentions this and I find it curious. While RWBYJ was talking to the tree, a large pink diamond could be seen on the table. This diamond is Neo, and here the analogy is going on that even with all the power she gained, her broken feelings and lack of purpose make her a "Diamond in the Rough." Even when rwby takes a final look before going through the portal you can see the blacksmith about to grab the diamond to start working on it. It makes you think, her Semblance is the most broken ever seen in the saga. Being able to create +9 clones and being able to use all the powers and even weapons of the people they transform into? Even maidens like Penny or partial immortality deniers like the Jabberwork? Forget about Salem, if she ever comes out with those powers and her mind healed, I don't know if anyone could ever beat her. But of course, if she comes out, her goal may be more to take down Cinder specifically for betraying her and then becoming a mega criminal mind on her own (Like when she was with Roman, but this time not even the kingdoms could stop her)

Well, instead of moving on, she could just replace vengeance with justice. Think about it. Ultimately, it was a Grimm, SALEM'S Grimm, who killed Roman. She may have moved on, yes, but in order for the memory of Roman to stay pure, she has to seek justice for those who caused his death ultimately.

I wouldn’t say any of them had a “warm feeling”. The others were just defensively passive. Ruby was the only one who showed sympathy and that’s just cause of who ruby is especially since she had her revelation about herself. Maybe for some reason she feels slightly glad that Neo pushed her to that point to she could move past it or something? Regardless she knew that Neo wasn’t evil or malicious. She was more of a gray character. Not wanting to take over the world or be on salems side. Nor did she want to save the world and help people. She was basically a lone wolf acting out of her own self interest. Which is why her sole purpose was going after cinder then ruby.(I still hope she comes back to fight against cinder. Don’t think she needs to be “redeemed” but as an ally. Since it’ll be really cool seeing Neo with her new power boost fight against cinder.)

We don't know if Neo will choose to ascend into another person or choose to "be herself" like Ruby did. Her showing up in Vacuo is a possibility if the show writers wanted to shoehorn in more Neo content, otherwise it would have no narrative significance.

I was actually a bit disappointed that Neo DIDN'T die in volume 9, as I figured having RWBYJ kill off a villain would be a great, on-the-nose example of their growth. Showing that they are not just kids, but warriors who will do what must be done to save the world. Of course, if Neo does come back, I just want her to ascend into an average person. Perhaps a one-off character that Ruby encounters on the streets, living a normal life, and through some sort of revelation Ruby realizes it's an ascended Neo so she gets her closure and the story can move on.
