Honestly Even in volume 1, she had a deeper tone. Probably because Lindsay was still trying to find a good fitting voice. Then it got a bit higher pitched. Now as Ruby's getting older, its gotten deeper again.

Well, this should be fascinating... Also, it's interesting to look at the way Ruby's voice pitches. When she's happy, excited, or trying to put on a brave face, she gets squeakier, chirpier. Now, without her friends to keep up the Keep Moving Forward act towards, and with the past few volumes of trauma hammering down on her, her voice is lower. More tired. Understandably so.

It's interesting to note: the rain starts when Ruby starts crying. It stops when she fully shifts to a different emotion, in this case, the surprise that Little can speak (yes there are a few more drops, but that's probably because the water is on the leaves). It looks like parts of this world can be influenced by the emotions of the inhabitants, at least partly.

I do like the changes in ruby's voice as she's trying to talk to this mouse in a normal way while having just barely escaped with her life and desperately trying to not have a meltdown and her voice actor really does a good job of this she's clearly on edge and given the whole going in circles thing just aggravated her it's definitely interesting to see this mixture of emotion's she barely keeping down with her fumbling over her words and barely able to socialize adequately which is a major 180 from what we've usually seen

After rewatching all 8 volumes I'd say this one is going to be quite different from. For Volume 9 I wish to see the Ever After's Jabberwocky who may be inspired by Smaug, lessons about fighting your inner demons, the full design of Vacuo, and underwater sequences with Team RWBY because we don't any water scenes in the series. Blake and Yang must kiss for crying out loud!

Already we're starting to get introspective with "that's a lot of things" and "To Ruby Rose is your purpose?". This is a good place for the group to catch their breath, and regather themselves, even if it's still under distressing circumstances!

To some extent, I think we've all had to confront those multifaceted aspects of ourselves, come to terms with them and forge our own identity with reverence to where we came from. Sometimes we look in the mirror and wonder "is this really me? Or what I think I should be but am not?" "Am I living in a way that honors my parents and the name they gave me?" Answers to these don't come easily, and can even be ugly when we choose to look deep down. Realistically, Blake and Ruby should be somewhere near each other. Neo wouldn't be far behind. Yang falling first would have had time on the island already, especially if time works different. Weiss would arrive next and Jaune last. I hope the writers didn't forget that little detail. I wouldn't mind the first episode just being Ruby and Blake as they try to find out where they are only for them to discover Yang at the very end of the episode.

Well, in one of the very first episodes, they mention that color-based names are very common because of one of the older empires (forget which), forbid expression, and it was a way of rebelling. I only caught that on my second time through and loved it. It’s also very organic, as only a few of the names are color related, where-as some heavy-handed cartoons would have named everyone colors.

Indeed. In particular, it seems she's in a world where one's name is their purpose. Note how Little asks both "how to Ruby Rose", and "how to Little", specifically. It's a lot like the names from ancient times, where your name was also a description of who you were. I have a theory which essentially boils down to Monty having left behind notes of his plan for RWBY that translate to the better parts of the show and the rougher stuff is what the team had to do to fill in the gaps. Volume 9 seems like it will be one of those better parts, just based on this.

Love the detail about Ruby watching cartoons, because of course a mouse would be afraid of someone resembling a cat. This seems like we'll get a slower volume, with more character-focused moments. Would've been cool to see Ruby use Petal Burst to try and break through the loop though, ending with her just kinda coming to a stop and hopping along on one leg as her other leg catches up to her and reassembles. But I guess she doesn't have the aura for that right now.

The fact this went from "End of the World/Destroy all Humanity" vibes in Volume 8 to seriously emulating a Wonderland-esque setting is refreshing. I also was as surprised as Ruby when "Little" spoke. Genuinely am hoping this lives up to expectations, and that the fan-base doesn't tear it to shreds for not giving over to what they WISH the series had been. RWBY has been one of those series that started out in one vein -- to which I have nothing but utter respect for the late Monty Oum -- then switch gears to reflect the ideas and writing of Kerry and the team, who had the gigantic task of taking up after Monty died and running with it. As a writer, I understood the reasons and the "tropes" behind a LOT of the series' turns and takes, and it made me irked when fans who felt they "knew RWBY better than the writers" started blasting it for "mistakes" taken with the narrative and directions they took. But this Volume 9 clip gives me hope that the fans will get past the prior volumes and come back to just enjoying the story and watching to see what happens next.

Some are stuck in the past and had their own idea with the show that anything different would be seen as a disaster in their eyes. Her voice actor Lindsay has said before that Ruby has a tendency to put on an act in front of people, trying to make it seem like she's perfectly okay, in order to keep the mood up for everyone and help them be strong. It makes sense for her to let her true feelings show when her friends aren't around, like when she smashed the bottle she found next to Qrow on the farm in Volume 6. No one was awake to see her frustration, so we got to see her get so angry that her hand started shaking, and then she threw the bottle. Her behavior totally changed when Qrow woke up.

I appreciate it when films or television shows present their main characters to show weakness and self-doubt, it makes you more empathetic towards the characters and makes them out to be a lot more human. In all honesty I’m just really hyped, and I know that’s not exactly a good idea, regarding some of the Slipups, but I have faith that they’ll make this section of the journey feel more grounded rich and not rushed.

This clip makes it clear that names describe the purpose of the beings in Ever After. This is reminiscent of what the God of Light said about humanity straying from their path. My current theory is that a name is enforced unto the person, making this volume a struggle for identity as what each character is named and who they are could contradict the other. Evil Jaune in the teaser is possibly him considering himself a killer and that Lady in Flames reinforces this viewpoint to manipulate him. If i'm right how this effects the main four will be interesting.

Volume 9 is going be very intriguing to see. It makes sense that Ruby is getting more depressed now, we've seen that in volume 3, she did try to be put on a brave face in volumes 4-7, but you can tell that depression is still there. I can only imagine what Jaune's mental health is like now, after what Penny asked him to do. Yang, Blake and Weiss too. Some people really want to know more about Ruby's mother, and I don't blame them. Several theories circulate around Summer Rose.

Without a doubt, this combination of RWBY and Alice in Wonderland looks too crazy and disturbing. I'm afraid that each of the characters is going to have a mental breakdown and go crazy (Ruby probably with all the traumas she's been through and been bottling up and now with Penny's death she’ll breakdown, she's going to get really bad; Weiss is sure to feel bad and think that he won't see his family again, Blake and Yang I'm not sure what kind of trauma they will suffer, but I think it will have to do with Adam Taurus, Neo will probably have hallucinations with Roman and Jaune will probably experience trauma and depression for killing Penny) Without a doubt, I liked the references to Wonderland and that bird that resembles a Dodo, when Ruby sits crying under the palm tree and it starts to rain, it reminds me of when Alice was locked in the room and couldn't out because of its size and when the little mouse asks: What are you?, it reminds me when the caterpillar asks Alice: Who are you? This gets more and more intriguing. I can't wait to see Volume 9. 😢😥🥺

It's actually really enjoyable if you ignore all the 'critics' and form your own opinion after watching the show. I was sceptical about starting RWBY because everyone kept saying it's bad and what not. But I ended up really loving it and have been desperately waiting for V9 to air ever since.
