19:34 I remember some folks talking about how the marionette was in the jar when the subject of Ruby's hope was brought up. However, when Jinxy says, "You don't seem to have enough", it pans to Little being framed inside the jar instead before they snatched the marionette anyways.

Although I personally never asked Paula about this, I can confirm that these kind of touches are rarely random. Two-dimensional blocking, or the visual alignment and arrangement of what you see in a given frame, is anything but random. The directors are very sensitive to even something just touching the silhouette edge of a character within a given shot. So much so that managing any sort of objective, spatial continuity across multiple shots has been practically futile on this show. If an overlap or tangent interaction is at all distracting or ambiguous it gets changed or eliminated. The use of glass here compounds the issue because glass isn't a trivial thing to do with the current rendering scheme. Every now and again something will happen that's completely random and serendipitous but knowing how glass and refraction or (worse) reflection is so involved, I'm inclined to believe everything about this was intentional, however up for speculation the intent was.

imo it's definitely leaning towards this, if it's not exactly this. Penny dying is basically Ruby losing her last shred of hope. Little is her way of gaining that hope back.

Something I noticed- When Jinxy asks for 'enough hope to fill the jar' he holds it over the emerald doll, which stands in for Penny in a literal way being her sword. When he realizes she lacks enough hop to do it, he moves it, and it's empty for a second until Little steps in. Which could stand to mean Ruby has 'little hope' as in literally AND figuratively.

It's not like the animators can just get rid of the ship, when they've already decided to do it and have written build-up in previous volumes. They're going to have to go through with it. You can't get mad over that.

I liked this episode! Poor Ruby ;-; hope she gets a needed hug and time to cry. I can honestly relate to her: being all happy even through hard times, then slowly becoming depressed :(

The Raccoon is probably a reference to the Raccoon Spirits in Native American belief called "Shinte-Gleska", or "Ring Tailed Ones". They're tricksters according to Native Americans. Or a reference to Azeban - the trickster "God" of the Abenaki people who took the form of a raccoon often. Or a reference to Rascal from the 1960s children book Rascal. Edit: I have a weird thought process... Blake said Alex knew what her knife took the form of because her heart knew, and while Yang only had a guess to what her arm was, Ruby knew something was up about the doll - and it turned out to be Penny's sword. Both being bladed weapons, I can't help but wonder if Ruby is going to go through a character arc that makes her and Alex nigh indistinguishable from one another at the end of this volume.

Weiss is just always amazing and adorable, even when angy stomping. And while they blame themselves for what happened at Atlas, no one could have ever expected Cinder to use the relic to learn what they were planning, especially when as far as everyone knew, only Hazel knew how to activate it and he was dead. The plan was good; sure, some slight flaws like with not being able to go back, but if not for Cinder using Jinn, everything would have been fine and they could have handled the Grimm on the other side a lot faster.

I am really loving this volume so far! I know we're only 2 episodes in but it's so different and refreshing from all the past volumes yet manages to feel so familiar. It has the humor of the earlier volumes whilst the vividly surreal fairytale dimension with its cartoonishly innocent characters is such a stark contrast from the darkness of the latter volumes.

Honestly, this man is so great I did not want to get up for work this morning, and I didn’t wanna get out of bed and just seeing that he posted a new video made my day so much easier for me to enjoy my morning as well. This gentleman has helped me, especially in my teenage years when Rwby first came out. That ‘doll in a jar’ thing you mentioned is exactly the same thing I was thinking. Jinxie asked for a jar full of hope and you could see the doll behind it as if it was IN the jar. As if the doll girl WAS Ruby’s hope, but she’s gone now, and so is Ruby’s hope.

14:20 I just realized something about how the Ever After is so attuned to Ruby's emotions. In Volume 1, when Ruby and Yang are officially meeting Blake on the first day at Beacon, Ruby tells Blake, "I wanted to be like the heroes in those books". In a way, out of the team, Jaune, and Neo, it would make sense the Ever After would consider Ruby a native Afterian, who might possibly have some kind of innate ability to manipulate the Ever After. For example, the bird in Chapter 1 who was laughing at Ruby repeatedly walking by. Eother he was making that happen, or he saw Ruby fall from the sky and noticed she was trying to walk directly to the tree, so he decided to laugh at her expense.

The parallel of the doll without string being penny and that being ruby's hope into the shot of little inside the jar after ruby didnt have enough hope to give... amazing shots. Also the R in the opening being the door, meaning we get mostly into ruby's soul, or *inside* ruby's soul or inner workings. Especially with alex being her counterpart, I think its more of a cautionary tale for ruby for what her path will be if she cant find her hope again.

I have this weird feeling team RWBY is regressing to some childhood age. Ruby to around when she lost her mom and was grieving and depressed, closed off. Weiss is trying to be logical but overall stubborn like a 7 year old, like I can imagine her being a smart girl at a young age and prideful/aloof/confident/full of herself but not the obnoxious/pompous way. Blake is innocent and hopeful, not haunted by the ugliness/unfairness of the world. Yang is growing/gave up on Remnant/the life as she knew before..? Like when she lost Summer and tried to grasp a shadow of Raven as a saviour/replacement mom, and almost died dragging Ruby with her and was saved by Qrow and that opened her eyes that what's gone is gone, like Summer,like Beacon, like her arm, and you can only face forward starting over from where you are now, I feel like she's not trying to go back to Remnant but instead going with the flow/tagging along the rest of the girls cause that's "her personality". What I'm trying to say is this feels like they're repeating a childhood period and relearning what they learnt that time/grow up to be who they've become already. Does this make sense? 😌😂🙃

I’m a little upset that Yang isn’t doing that much to try to comfort Ruby but I also get why. Ruby has never talked about her problems much, with anyone. Last season Yang waited to give her talk to Ruby until AFTER Ruby decided to vent to her. So, my guess is that Yang is waiting for Ruby to to come to her, because going to Ruby first and trying to get her to talk likely just doesn’t work/only makes her bottle it up more. We see Weiss try that and unsurprisingly, Ruby doesn’t budge. If anyone in the show understands how to deal with Ruby’s emotional dysfunction it should be Yang. I kind of wish they would have Yang say that to another character though, bc right now that’s just a guess on my part and it would be nice to get more ‘motherly Yang’ moments since I feel like we’ve only gotten that like 2 times (and only one was with Ruby).

What I noticed is all their emotions are amped up here, as well they arent noticing eachothers emotions as they usually do apart from when they're sharing that same emotion. So Blake is consistantly worried, Weiss is fed up, yang is happy go lucky and rwby is depressed.

It seems like the aura of Penny was all around the storybook world that Team RWBY is in. Like the world is connected to Ruby's emotions specifically and so maybe these constant reminders of Penny is meant to try to help Ruby feel better.

So as a thought onto the theory that the Ever After was made of the gods, a contributing idea to this is how the weather changes based on Ruby's emotions instead of the others. Now it could just be because she's feeling them the most intensely, but she shares an important trait with the God of Light/Creation: her silver eyes. We still don't know precisely where that trait originated in mortals, and while the most it did in her world was petrify or vaporize Grimm, if the Ever After truly is an experimental universe made by Light and Dark, then perhaps this one is more sensitive to the traits of its creators, even if by comparison the God of Lights power is an order of magnitude far greater than Ruby's silver eyes.

I love how things are moving so quickly that we are just as blindsided as the characters. Never did we have an establishing shot for the toy town or people. They were there. It just was. Things just keep getting crazier and crazier!

I do like how they showed why Ruby is the leader in this episode. Everybody has their own ideas on what to do, and nobody is following one plan. When Ruby makes a decision, everybody agrees and follows her. I've been falling out on RWBY but I can't tell whether I like this Volume yet. I haven't enjoyed the last couple besides some few standout moments in each. Ruby's voice is weird and super reminds me of Sonic's voice in Frontiers but Sonic still sounded like himself in most instances, just had much more emotional depth that allowed for more heartfelt moments. In this, Ruby's voice changes immediately and doesn't switch back to her old one. I would have preferred if they had her trying to hide it but slowly getting more and more upset. Then the crews reactions would make more sense, Ruby can have her dark thoughts moments, and it would add even more cool aspects too as she gets sad enough for the rain clouds to appear she could start acting like she's fine and they still don't go away. She could act fine but do a kinda poor job at it, making the rest suspicious about what's going on with Ruby, she wouldn't have the same voice as before but it would be much closer. And she could still do the muttering under her breath too. I do like how she is kinda silent at times where she would normally try to speak up and help.

Considering Penny's swords where present, it's not far fetched to say that her body also ended up here. BUT, what if her body was repurposed/transformed into something else. WHAT IF the metal lady who forges things is Penny's body?!

Actually, this is an amalgamation of two Alice books. The first is Wonderland, and the second is Through the Looking Glass. Whilst some of the Wonderland story is interpreted here, two pieces of Looking Glass are also represented. The first was the jabberwocky. The second was that when Alice went through the Looking Glass the world was a chess board, and she had to cross eight squares to become a queen. Acres equal the squares of the chess board.

I like how the world of Rwby has superpowers (semblances), people with animal parts, monsters, 2 gods, and ancient relics that have unimaginable power, and Weiss is like we arent in a fairy-tail its just a story🤓

-Chapter 2: Altercation at the Auspicious Auction RWBY quote of the chapter _“…But for whatever reason, this place is putting us on a similar path as a book we all read as kids. I say we follow it, and stop pretending we know what we’re doing” (Ruby Rose)_ -The Ever After So now we know the name of the place; The Ever After. It kind of gives the feeling of an afterlife or an underworld and given that they fell into it, it may be true. And a very colorful underworld no less. -Coming to Grips Just like the colors, each member of the team reacting different with the situation they are in. Yang seems to be the least concerned about the place, probably because she has been their longer than them. Her focus was primarily on getting her arm back and then moving on. And her personality was pretty much the same as well. Confident, laid-back, punch-first-and-ask-questions later, with only Jinxi’s price being the thing that gave her pause. Weiss was trying to use logic to stay grounded on the situation (and amusingly so), only for that same logic to be turned on its head (literally in the case with the rock). Aside from that, she is disappointed about the fate of Atlas, sorrow at the loss of Penny and how she wasn't there to see or even know its ultimate fate and the fate of the Relic. Blake seemed to be in her element of with regards to the stories (apparently a bit more of a guide than Little). However with that knowledge comes the concern about the dangers of Ever After as wanting not to repeat Aless' actions which apparently resulted in a war. This goes back to why she left the White Fang, knowing that their actions at that point would eventually lead to a war, as evidenced at the Fall of Beacon. Obviously (as a watcher), Ruby is the one who is suffering at the most, especially considering Penny's death. It probably hurt her even more now than the first because Penny had just became a real human only to hear that she is gone, and this time with no chance of revival. And as an element, although she isn't overtly showing her grief personally, the place itself displays it through the rain, in effect crying for her. Plus, she somehow was able to sense one of Penny's swords despite Jinxi’s deception. It does lead to a thought that this place may not just be from the fairytale, that it may be _Ruby's fairytale._ An oddity is that the others don't to be too concerned with Ruby's solemn behavior. Maybe because that are used to her taking the lead and seeing her strength throughout that they may not think of her internal conflict. Likely they believe that she could shake it off and move on like so many times before. But there is only so much a person take before they break. Thus Kindly I Scatter…

Now that we are actually in Ever After and we see what it contains, ive had a theory since Ambrosius warned the team "Do not fall" that the relic of choice is somewhere in the Ever After. Oz said it was hidden better than the rest of the relics rather than just in the vault. and we know cinder was at the beacon vault but was unable to find anything. maybe somehow the vault at beacon contains a way to get to the Ever After instead of it just being its own seemingly separated pocket dimension like the others we've seen so far.

Working theory: maybe the Jabberwalker is Jaune. Perhaps the emotions and turmoil Jaune was going through at the end of last season were so strong when Jaune got to this new world, that the world transformed him into this creature. The Jabberwalker saying "fix" might be him thinking he needs to fix what he's done (killing Penny/not being able to save people). It might also explain why Jaune hasn't shown up yet (I REALLY want to know where he is if that's not him. Seriously, if that's not him then WHERE IS HE?).

HOLY I JUST REALISED, if jaune is the rusted knight that means he’s been in the ever after since Alyx’s time. That means jaunes over centuries old (probably not sure how long the story has been around in remant time). The Jaune section of the opening makes sense now his time is stoped just like phoenix knight said. He lost his identity a long time ago and has been the rusted knight for years. Wonder what rwbys reaction will be to know one of their friends has been stranded for years and doesn’t even remember himself anymore.

I think Ruby's used to carrying everyone else. Remember Vol 1 when she just IS a perfect leader and we see Yang being super proud of her taking command even in their initial team-building exercise in the forest, and how she mentors Jaune on how to be a leader when he's having moments of doubt, something about how they can't have doubt because they're leaders. I'm hoping when she runs into Jaune she'll get to have a flashback moment and he will be the one to pull her out of it, or maybe they'll both get to realise that it's ok to not be ok, to step back from leadership, heal and to let their teams carry them. It would be super interesting to see someone else lead, like I would love to see Blake as the quiet contemplative follower get a chance to step up and be the leader, maybe utilise tools she learned from standing up to the White Fang in Menagerie (I mean not just this volume, which is basically a break from the main story battle, I'm hoping Blake leads for a while even when they go back to Vacuo, at least for most of season 10 or maybe they all take turns somehow) while Ruby is recovering, maybe spending time with Qrow grieving over Summer which is probably what is ultimately underlying all of her and his trauma.

Its been a while since i read the books but I'm pretty sure the red queen and the queen of hearts were two different characters one in the first book and one in the second, and they both had kings they just weren't as relevant, the king of hearts followed his queen around and undid a lot of her execution threats without her noticing and calmed her down when the duchess or alice pissed her off. the red queen in the second book is a lot nicer and offers to make her queen if she gets to the otherside of the world (chessboard), I think the red king is present but I don't remember him so not sure how much he's in the book. or how useful this information is, I don't know how accurate they're going to make this to alice in wonderland given how much they've altered other fairytales mentioned in the series

I also think Neo could be Alex she lied, cheated and manipulated her way out of Ever after, lost herself and emerged different as Neo. Cant both be right and no idea what happened in the Neo/Roman comic :)
