Early Season Camping at Pawtuckaway State Park in NH

Early Spring is when the campgrounds are preparing for summer visitors. There are fewer human sounds so we can enjoy the sounds of birds, water, wind, and the absence of sound. All the sounds in this video were recorded during the trip.
This location was site number 18 on Horse Island at Pawtuckaway State Park in New Hampshire.

I don't remember but I think there is a shot of the site number in the video somewhere. Best thing anyway is to call them because they will probably tell you some other important thing also. Getting advance info from the park is a game changer.

Beautiful place! Did you camp or just spend the day there? How was the temperature at night? I'm going there this weekend. I'll be in a tent. Any tips?

I camped. It was chilly that night but the temperatures will be warmer for you (47 at night and 70 during the day). Tips: If you want to hike, go up to the fire tower. Definitely walk around to see different views of the lake because different birds are in different coves. If you bring or rent a kayak, go land on a little island to explore. Bring something delicious to eat.

How did you camp? Isn't the campground unavailable until 4/30?

They opened Horse Island open this year and posted it on Facebook. It was "dry camping" with no water or services yet available. I booked it through Reserve America. Sorry I didn't explain that in the video.

I thought the gates were closed in the off season.

They announced on Facebook that Horse Island sites would open early this year. I paid through Reserve America. No staff came to check on me but I saw a couple girls coming around in the staff truck in the morning to work on sites.
