Rafal, it would be lovely if you could show a the same scene using the bigger and smaller modifiers. I'd love to know more about the difference you see between them.

This is such a difficult decision to make. I have a small Godox V860ii speedlight and an SMDV Speedbox 65mm (about 26 inches). They are nice within their power and coverage limitations. I would like to eventually get a nicer strobe and a larger octagon softbox.

Wow, I was looking for information and return on experience about the different softbox of elinchrom and especially those deep octabox and couldn't find precise enough info before the buy. Thank for the video, you really helped me on what to choose. Just like you, I shoot mainly on location and was afraid of build quality over time. You give a lot of precious info on how you use these lights.

How do you prevent hot spots when you use speedlights with these softboxes? Have you used the little reflector discs that Elinchrom sells with these softboxes?

Thomas I use the diffuser that came with mine.

No I don't use that little reflector...it kills too much light. There is few ways to prevent hot spots ... having the right angle of the soft box... makeup which prevent oily skin or the last thing is photoshop :)

The softboxes described here have two layers of white fabric to diffuse the light, so the light is not as harsh as a reflector, or a beauty dish, or even a beauty dish with one diffusion panel. I am not an expert, but I also think putting a larger softbox closer to the model helps.

Is that why they have the bare bulb option for the AD200? I want one of those. So then would a beauty dish with a reflector plate and one layer of diffusion be better for a speedlight than two layers of white fabric?
