i don't know the rules of this kind of fight, but it seems like they always want to keep their eyes open until right before the slap to see when it's coming, and then they flinch a bit to soften the blow. the guy on the left had a reach and height advantage, and looks like maybe 50 pounds weight advantage too, but he decided to lean into the first couple slaps, probably to reduce the blow by not allowing the slapper to wind up as much, but it seemed like a courtesy because he was taller and if he leaned back at all then the slap would hit the front of his face which happened a few times. they could just stand there with eyes closed but it seems like there is some tactic involved
