As dearly as I love David and Ry, it really is amazing that Terry Evans, Bobby King, and Willie Green Jr. get no mention--of all things on a song about the resilience of the Black experience !

David Lindley and Ry Cooder deserve more recognition but so do the Mississippi delta Bluesmen that give them inspiration.

It's uncommon to see video of Lindley playing violin, and although I've seen him play in concert a number of times, solo and with ElRayo-X, the only time I ever saw him pick up a violin was doing duets with Jackson Browne. There are, however,, a couple of full-concert ElRayo-X videos on KZbin where David plays "the Reel of the Hanging Man" on violin and Ras Baboo is banging the shit out of an oil can, and it's absolutely awesome! And although most people have only ever heard the shortened, edited radio-airplay version of Darkness Darkness by Jessie Colin Young, the full length album version has a lovely violin solo introduction by David that he himself calls "the finest thing I've ever done".

Great performance! Thanks for sharing. Just a suggestion though, the title of this clip should really mention Terry Evans as well as Ry & David.

RIP TERRY. I wish I had found out about Terry before he passed. I’d have loved to have seen him sing live.

Ry Cooder's name brought me here, but the vocals and David Lindley's work are extraordinary. This is a classic. Who is the vocalist?

Yeah, Bobby is on fire. There are other great versions. The crossroads version is the studio one. The guitar playing on the Santa Barbara live performance is also extraordinary. One of those necessary many version tunes for the playlists.

Saw this being performed live in the Vereniging in Nijmegen The Netherlands somewhere during the seventies or eighties. When the the bass sang the whole building shook.

Sends child up my spine. You could interpret this as being on the order of "Mississippi Goddam: Slight Return". I bet Nina Simone would be okay with that.
