look there's no need to have a one sided view of this song. they're both terrific versions of a terrific song. I'm a professional guitarist and musician, Taylor swift is a true inspiration and authentic artist and songwriter and believe me Ryan Adams is one of her biggest admirers as she is of him. there are very few artists past or present that are on her level. professional musicians like myself pay absolutely no attention to negative opinions of anyone who knows absolutely nothing about music. music comes down to a matter of taste like everything else. industry music professionals know Taylor swift, her success comes down to talent and intelligence and hard work. not record label promotion.

To people who say ‘this is the same song’ or even ‘this is the same album’ it isn’t. The words and the Melodies may be nearly identical but the voice, the cadence the expression of sadness from the point of view of the man in the Relationship - not every relationship mind you, but this particular relationship is different, it’s unpopular and there’s something deeper to that that goes with the song

I Think People Need To just appreciate music. Just Because Ryan Adams Sings it differently Does not change the meaning of the song. I think Ryan knows good songwriting when he hears it. I don't listen to Taylor, but the woman can definitely write a pop hook. It's possible to appreciate musical talent without being moved by it emotionally. Taylor gets a bad rap for being pop and popular, but she can crank out the ear worms, and that's a talent.

He’s the real deal. Always was. She sings like a teenager… Unfortunately he acts like one… He’s the better artist though. Go enjoy his catalog it’s pretty well dynamite. He’s doing a solo tour now. After taking some heavy criticism and canceling over some personal stuff. Perhaps he’s maturing a bit now, always delivers in concert though. Not quite sure how that behavior concerns people or effects their opinion of a song or music.. Don’t spend money on things you don’t seriously believe in. If I made my decisions based on every musicians juvenile politics, I’ll probably have a bout three albums in my collection. I’ve got thousands… It’s the music.

+Emily May (The Book Geek) The problem is that it's comparing apples to apples. Because it is a cover of a song by another artist, you *can* compare the two versions directly. And just because someone did a song first, doesn't mean it's the definitive version. My favorite example is Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt. He owns the song, from beginning to finish, with a certain kind of honesty shinning through the whole thing. Much like this cover. Taylor's performance is so slick, that any kind of tone like that is completely lost. Also, the guitar that is played throughout the whole track makes the song more musically interesting, rather than relying completely on the strength of the vocals. Which are seriously hampered by the fact that the radio edit cuts out all of the rap lyrics for some reason, at least in my area.

It's chilling how natural Ryan Adams sounds when he sings Taylor Swift's lyrics. She has said that he has been a huge influence on her writing style and it is evident on this song. "Bad Blood" sounds like Swift was unknowingly writing this song, and all of the album 1989, with the full intention of having Ryan Adams record them. His interpretation makes it so much more haunting and heartbreaking. Great song.

Good ear, I love how they mimic the synth sounds in TS version in a manner that's a little bit different sonically [not too much, the tempo is the same but I doubt they match note for note] but still on beat and with proper direction, and most of all equally *OR MORE* (hush!) pleasing to the ear. As a former resident of NC I know all about the musical virtuosity and talent of Ryan Adams As a member of the Swift generation I watched her crossover and meteoric rise to that of a superstar, while putting out music that managed to be continually relevant without preaching or over-sexualising, complex and challenging without being cold or disengaged, mass appeal-ready without being soulless or spiritually narrow-minded... shes become a #1 artist without losing her core self and I think someone like Ryan can appreciate the music that tells that story of threading the needle of fame, success, and subsequent consequences and pressures on a person, especially someone who is truly gifted and (musically) talented, and how their art becomes reactionary and their lives become a more complicated animal that can sometimes drive them to both that great artistic moment as well as periods of isolation and sadness, confusion in the navigation of the 'game' (as it were) and overall battles to not lose themselves and the world they love to the fame and fortune. It's a commonly told tale but very special when a great songwriter can speak it into life in a new and exciting fashion.... Ryan, during a tumultuous period in his own life, found meaning and camaraderie in a place most wouldn't have expected him to; but like TS, he is always subverting and hurdling over expectations in his career. There is no finer example of it than this album. I love and revere it, and it definitely turned me on to Taylors music that was likely impossible without him. Praise to both artists for a work that is going to go down as a classic

It's so funny how people say "NOW it's a good song", "This is REAL music." It's the exact same song. And it was still written by Taylor Swift. +Rob Graff I always think the test of a song is in its ability to be re-arranged and re-presented. I'm not a fan of the original arrangement, but critically I still think its a solid song, not amazing, but solid. My taste is more to the Indie side and so I do prefer Ryan's interpretation. I'm not a snob about it though - I haven't heard it yet but Shake it Off was in my mind the perfect pop song and changed my mind about Taylor, so I'm keen to see how that has worked out. But you're right it's the same song and therefore it remains solidly written - lyrically and musically. Side note, I've always found BBC's Live Lounge is always great for getting you to hear a song in another light.

***** He did it in a style you prefer. I just don't understand how a song that's about the exact same thing, written by the exact same person is automatically better just because it's acoustic. If they turned "Anaconda" into a candle-lit piano ballad, would it not be about butts anymore?

Ryan made me start listening to Taylor Swift and liking it a lot. What I want now is them to dancing together to this cover or her original!

I adore Ryan Adams. Love this cover of the entire album. Keep it up man. It gives a new spin to the ear bugs of Taylor on the radio, but it also makes me want your own songs. I know you're native NC, but damn, you have some totally UK vibes in your accent. Love it! Don't let the naysayers and gripeys get you.

I'm stoked that so many people are finally getting turned on to Ryan Adams. Better late than never.

The thing is, if Taylor had sung her songs like this, she never would have made the millions and had the screaming young milennials buying her albums.

thats a no. she still sold millions of copies of fearless and speak now, had sold out tours, billboard hits, and won grammys for them despite singing her songs like this lmao. sis is amazing/talented/popular regardless of how she sings her songs.

@@winifredburkled no, she has never arranged her songs like this. Her country albums sound nothing like this.

... obviously it isnt 100% the same but never and nothing are very strong and inaccurate words to use in this case. she was acoustic/country so she absolutely has sounded like this in the past, especially in live performances which she sold out. I would argue that many songs on speak now were similarly arranged and that the instrumentals of innocent sound pretty similar to this. and my girl still outsold most artists. also as someone who has been a part of 4 music departments over the past 12 years pretty sure I know what I'm saying

@@winifredburkled country and acoustic is not the same genre. This genre is certainly not country. What the commenter meant to say I think is that this pop album if arranged the way Ryan Adams has done it instead of being pop would not have been as successful because pop is what sells. That's all. I don't think he was trying to put down your Taylor. Most of these comments on here are about people enjoying this reimagining of her album even if they didn't like her music before hearing this. But it shows us what great writing she actually did.

You're completely misinterpreting what I said. I said she was country/acoustic meaning she was literally both not that they're the same thing. SN Tour Album is LITERALLY THIS but even more raw and acoustic than Ryan's work. Her earlier work was predominantly acoustic but it was still "as successful". Most of Taylor's acoustic music especially on SN has still surpassed most pop music on the charts. I'm not saying Ryan "put down my Taylor." I'm not even referring to Ryan. I'm responding to the comment about her earlier work which was absolutely produced the same way Ryan Adams did and was STILL outselling pop despite being mainly acoustic. It's a response to this person's comment that Taylor's music wouldn't sell if it was produced like this. It has, and it did.
