Holy shit… he really was untouchable back then. What a spooky, beautiful, special talent. Even the God-like Neil Finn is in awe.

Well, I'm 66 and I love Ryan's music and lyrics. Wonderful songwriter and a true musical artist. This is most certainly not the spoon fed garbage the mainstream "popular" music industry foists upon us. This particular song, like many of those written by Mr. Adams and some other artists, entices the listener to imagine the meaning of the lyrics while enjoying the musicality of the arrangement... Brilliant. Thank you so much for sharing. Best Regards, Ron from Texas

Neil and Janis thought that Bryan was a twat. Google it.
@mokkly1233 жыл бұрын
Thinking someone’s a ‘twat’ doesn’t also mean you don’t recognise their talent. Janis Ian: “Ryan Adams is an extremely talented songwriter - beautiful, wonderful stuff“. Her criticisms were of his attitude, not his work, which was spellbinding, and on another level to the other two that day, quite frankly. Neil and Ryan have previously had positive things to say about each other, too - including when Neil let Ryan use his studio for free while touring NZ. Despite an argument about Ryan not wanting to sing some backing vocals during this TV show, they both had complimentary things to say about each other during this show, too.

I'm also 14 and I completely agree I would rather listen to Ryan Adams then any other artist alive. He's such a huge influence to a lot of people including myself.

If you like these Ryan Adams BBC songs, especially if you're not familiar with him, check out also on KZbin: Ryan Adams with Neal Casal acoustic. Performing "Two" from St. James Church, Dingle, County Kerry, Ireland, on June 6, 2007, and other songs from the same night/performance. Guitar playing superb.

I don't think musical discernment is necessarily directly related to age. I'm not 30 yet. I've loved/listened to Ryan Adams, A.A. Bondy, and tons of other singer/songwriters for years. It's more a matter of lousy top 40 "hits" dominating radio. Interestingly enough, it isn't just the "kiddies" that listen to it non-stop. It's actually my annoying middle-aged coworkers. So, if you're tempted to post another "Thank God, there's hope for the next generation of music enthusiasts" comment... Don't.

I get that Neil Finn has clout, but I wish he would've just sat back and enjoyed, as Janis Ian was admiring, instead of noodling around trying to get in there. He especially ruined the ending.

I saw Neil in 1980 with the Split Enz; I respect his stuff. But what can you expect with little or no rehearsal between them? I wish they could have worked up his parts a little better, still a compelling tune.
