This is one of those songs that just jumped out of my car radio and made me pull into a Barnes&Noble to try to find out who the artist was and what the album was called. It's a stone cold classic in my book and "Stranger's Almanac" was the album that opened my eyes up to the Americana scene and remains one of my all-time favorites. I saw them on this tour and I loved the performance although Ryan was very confrontational with the audience (some SMU frat boys who he called "Old 97s fans").

Ryan's one of the best. Man, what I'd give to be up playing guitar on that stage with him...

This is the first time I've seen this. I've known for years that they had been on ACL but I never could find it anywhere. Thanks for this!

He did a bunch of Whiskeytown songs in Baltimore including this one, Avenues, Houses on the Hill and Jacksonvile Skyline. Fabulous stuff. Really as good as his stuff with the Cardinals if not better.

I lived in Dallas from 88-08 and saw Rhett grow from pretty boy teen throb with a guitar and face...to the different parts of his journey to the great O97s...seen the band many times...Been a fan of RA since these Whiskeytown days and seen the growth up to marrying Candy GIrl Mandy Moore...Ryan is the bigger talent, but who can he compare with...But downplay the O97s they just are doing what they do and they do it well...

This is from the Austin City Limits telecast on Jan. 26, 1998. I believe they did 6 tunes -- this was the 1st one. It's the later-Whiskeytown (not as good) lineup, with Jen Snyder & Ed Crawford on bass & lead guitar.

ronbo thats too bad but no surprise he doesnt like O97 or their many legions of fans. Adams is a textbook enfant terrible from the Mozart school: Equal parts fantastic talent, bad temper & childish insecurity who prolly thinks O97/Rhett Miller's brand of radio roots rock caters only to the peasant/frat boy masses. I'm OK with it because ima huge fan of both Adams' career and of the bottle-fed, party-on 97s, so...yeah. Good talk.
