Ryan Cooper: from Zero to King

Several months of on-and-off work come together into this. It has been fun making this video, and also rather educational in many ways. Additional details about the contents of the vid can be found here.

I've always envisioned the career of Pro Street as taking place only with Ryan Cooper's 240SX across all specs. Understandably, that's not very possible in the base game because of the way Blueprints work. Apparently the devs wanted the cars to actually have cross-spec capability with Blueprints, but due to apparent time constraints they were unable to implement it.
Pro Street also suffered from several issues that arose after installing the v1.1 patch. While it allowed for extra content to be played, it introduced a 30fps cap regardless of graphical settings, and, worst of all, the infamous Continue bug that would heavily delay if not halt progression. Only after installing the excellent Multifix Patch (available here: nfsmods.xyz/mod/2) could I really come back and experience this game in full. For an even bigger challenge, I went with manual and clutch, and found it most enjoyable and rewarding to play.
None of this still allowed for accurately replicating Cooper's 240SX livery, though, which is where the Pro Street Vinyl Unlocker (available here: nfsmods.xyz/mod/100) helped bring the dream to reality. Only small blemishes such as absent window stickers remain, which aren't so easily fixed apparently.
In the gameplay itself, I tried to keep interesting recorded segments while also fitting the flow of the soundtrack. I found this especially important to balance, because of the high emphasis the game has on audio design, and I wanted to do it justice in that regard.
Of course, Cooper's ride doesn't emerge fully unscathed from the journey, which hopefully makes it that much more interesting to watch.

My game is currently modded so I can't really recommend any tunes from my current game, but I can suggest basic adjustments based on what I've seen people run. Engine: all sliders fully to the right Gearbox: takes some practice but you want to hit a high top speed without sacrificing acceleration Brakes: not that important Suspension: this is where I know too little to be useful, might be better off searching for suggested tunes online. For speed challenges however, soft dampers and springs and moderate-high ride height or you *will* die

Back when I made this video, I simply replicated the car livery with the Special Vinyls, which are normally inaccessible in the regular game. Nowadays I use Car Customizer, a little external program that lets you unlock blueprints, among other things.

Quick question why did you skip most of the first Tokyo Dockyard React Team Sessions raceday? I pretty sure a stage 2 upgraded 240SX can beat it cuz I beat it with a Stage 2 Upgraded Eclipse GSX albeit barely in my Hashihara 23 team playthrough in the Wii version of the game. Cuz after one of the grip races in the raceday it skipped to the Autobahn Ring Raceday Drag Race.

They're awarded past Super Promotion events as a random reward. Alternatively, with Patch 1.1 and the cheat codes unlocked properly, using the SAAM-UNL cheat will allow buying stage 4 parts.

No way, you beat the whole game with the 240sx? Not gonna lie the car is pretty amazing for a starter car. Awesome acceleration and handling, but abysmal top speed because it's just a tier 1 car. 240sx grip configuration with all level 3 parts has a top speed that caps out at 150mph iirc, but here I see you reach up to 200mph. Do level 4 parts really bump the performance up that much?

Yes. Even before modding the game extensively (aka this video), the 240SX with tier 3 parts and some tuning could get to well over 180mph. Tier 4 transmission unlocks the 6th gear, which lets it reach the game's regular top speed cap of 250mph with a bit of nitrous. All tier 4... well, that's a dream alright. It's just fiddly on speed challenges due to the stiff suspension.

Maybe I got it wrong but I do remember in my playthrough a grip race 240sx with fully level 3 parts without any tuning caps at 150-160mph I used the same mods as you except I didn't unlock level 4 parts because I want to feel like I earned them. I switched to the rx7 as the car for all 4 modes because the 240sx couldn't compete.

Yes, and it's not too difficult honestly. You'll have the most trouble if you can't get the stage 4 transmission upgrade to uncork the maximum speed for grip, drag and speed challenges, and speed remains difficult because of the bouncy live axle rear suspension.

There are occasional nods to previous games (the announcer sometimes mentions a blue Supra with an NFS license plate), and Cooper himself is implied to have quit street racing to go at it on sanctioned tracks, but nothing is concrete and there's no direct connection to the protagonists of other games. None of that was the point of my video, of course.

Ryan is not the protagonist in those games. In ProStreet, a blue car that has the license plate called CARBON was found at the Super Promotion Event. That car is Darius' Supra, which we we're using in Carbon's prologue. This means that ProStreet takes place before MW and Carbon, and the protagonist in UG1 and UG2 left the car there, and bought the M3 GTR instead. MW and Carbon are different stories and the player's name is actually unknown, but they call him Hero, not Ryan Cooper.
