3:09 - It makes me so happy that the actual group of Kens did the backing vocals here. It would have been so easy to have a professional men's choir or quartet do it and have the actors lip sync along. To have the actual actors sing it just adds to the wholesomeness factor. Plus, I know karaoke star Simu would have been bummed not to actually sing lol.

@piranhaplantX

To be fair, there is a lot of blatant "patriarchy" messaging, and virtually all of the men are written as negative one-dimensional stereotypes. This is including the "real life" men we see throughout.

This movie was positive for men and women, if anyone sees Ken's beautiful story arc as anti men it's a red flag, he went from being below barbie to trying to be above barbie to finding himself in a very equal way, it was amazing, it's very pro men's real feelings, anyone who disagrees is just anti men being real humans

Clips like that and just the fact that she rewrote part of the movie to fit "I'm just ken" in since it was written on the fly completely destroy this weird narrative some people have that Greta Gerwig was trying to present Ken as a total villain instead of, sure, an antagonist, but one who's motivations are understandable and the film ends with him happier than he ever was before

I like how this movie does a decent job at empowering women and being a pretty funny satire about corporate patriarchy, but I also love how it is also empowers men and encourages them to just be themselves, not hide their feelings, and to realize they don’t need to live up to lofty expectations to be good enough. Ye, a truly enjoyable movie. I feel like that's the mistake that other movies make when they're primarily about women empowerment. They tend to just kinda shit on men. Like all of the male characters are just pure scum, all the comments towards men in general tend to be very sarcastic or backhanded. It's kind of a chore to watch them imo. @@a_me_1I know right, I hardly hear anyone bring this up. The message with Ken is that your self worth shouldn’t be tied to girls, or your interests, your success, your credibility, etc. But that you should love yourself regardless of what society thinks you should be and have. It’s a pro men message, while also being anti patriarchy, it’s really well done.

@@darnelljenkins5972 I completely agree and am sad that was missed often by those who actually need to hear it the most. It's getting such varied reactions, I've even seen people argue that it's anti motherhood due to missing the reference in that first scene. I think it is pretty pro motherhood especially with Ruth's touching comment towards the end and the mother daughter bond shown. It's kind of amazing to me that there are so many people completely misinterpreting the film, sometimes deliberately to fit their own anti 'woke' narrative. It's kind of sad to me but also fascinating that a movie like this, a barbie movie no less, can cause so much division
@darnelljenkins5972

@@a_me_1 I'm extremely glad to see someone who really gets it. A lot of the misunderstanding also seems to come from people freezing up and lashing out at the word patriarchy, not just in this movie, but any time the word comes up.. They seem to be taking it as an attack on men any time anyone mentions word. It's not, the patriarchy harms men and women. I think if people really thought about these things they would understand, but it's easier to get defensive and be reactionary, instead of actually confronting society's problems, and your own biases.
@a_me_1
@a_me_1 Жыл бұрын
@@darnelljenkins5972 yeah I think a lot of it is just negative connotations and assumptions about words, kind of like how some people have alarm bells when they hear the word 'feminism', even though many feminists want improvements for all genders not just females, despite what the word would imply. I think people nowadays are very reactionary and it causes way more conflict and division between groups of people than we would have otherwise...social media is a big part of it too sadly. No one thinks enough before they post... and people react without really viewing the other person as a human being.

I don’t think this is a bad idea…but I’d rather her direct an actual stage piece first to see what she’d do with and if she truly understands the musical theatre art form first before translating one from stage to screen. But so far, she sees to have a decent handle on it, but this is an original film, not a translation from the stage. And that is a different skill than directing an original film piece.

@@cristiansantander4003 I disagree. I think his performance in this film (even though it was a comedy) was up to par with other potential supporting actor performances this year. And Ryan Gosling is well overdue for an Oscar now, having only 2 nominations. He carries every movie he's in

This is a really good song. It's genuinely poignant and sweet. It really makes you feel for Ken, who is just as lost and confused as Barbie in the movie. I hope this song and "Dance The Night" are contenders for awards.
