Low voices RULE!! so over that whole high and bright stuff. Seems like opera is the only genre that truly appreciates these awesome voices!!

Just had the pleasure of seeing Ryan in this role at Glimmerglass Opera. His Dutchman was brilliantly sung and acted, and not just a little bit sexy. I hope to hear much more from him in the future!

Wow, very impressive! Sometimes his Holländer even reminded me vaguely of George London, and that of course means A LOT. Amazing Wagnerian sound and a very good sense of style and vocal expressivity. I hope he keeps refining his artistry, because I do see potential for him to be one of the really greats of this new generation.

Orchestra covers him up a bit in a couple of places. This is definitely his rep, but give him a few years before it starts to really sound awesome. If you ask me, the only reason he didn't win the Met competition is because he's a real Wagnerian bass-baritone and was too young at the time to really be able to show off his stuff. This guy's best days are still ahead of him. I really hope he does this role in an HD Broadcast from the Met some day!

what a wonderful Holländer!! Bravo! But Whyis this tenor conducting?? It's another profession - sorry!! FROM 6.45 A WHOLE BAR BEHIND!!!!!!!!! TO 7.35!! ALMOST ONE MINUTE!!!! He was (and still is) a sensational singer ....but why??? Power?? (Bernstein would have said "Taktschläger")

He studied a number of years to become a conductor knowing that his voice wouldn't be anymore, sometime in his future. I applauded his decision. Nothing could be more fitting than he, who is a pianist, which allowed him to learn easily one role after the next, would choose conducting as his next carreer. I did also notice "something not so clear" in his tempo but couldn't tell what it was. If it's what you say, congratulations. He has also been criticized for singing a second role in La Traviata as Germont's father but I am not hard on him because, being myself a singer also, I find it difficult to retire. I like singing even if it's only before close friends or in family reunions. On the other hand, he started off his singing career as a baritone and in my opinion he can still have something to offer in this regard. Off course, conducting at the highest proffesional level is quite demanding and making this kind of mistakes is not advisable for any conductor, not even if he was one of the greatest tenors of recent history.

This is very impressive from McKinny. One though might seek from him a little more cultivation of warmth in his sound, thus a little less emphasis on snarl and projection for its own sake. However, with conducting like Domingo's here, thoroughly unworthy of the forces, those of La Scala, he is conducting, I know full well I ask too much. Domingo on the podium at La Scala attempting to conduct Wagner is a complete joke. I hope to never run across this happening again.

i agree domingo conducting this rep is a joke. Mckinny is a good singer though
