Narcissistic Sociopaths NEVER take responsibility. My late older sister was exactly like this. And she ruined her relationship with our parents, our siblings and her own children because of it. Having said that, I sincerely believe she was born that way... so I learned not to hate her for it. It's like a rattlesnake. You know it's deadly, so you stay away from rattlesnakes. I knew my sister was toxic to me, so I stayed away from my sister. I hope Tatum has come to this realization and moved on...

I have a similar story with a sibling too. Same thing she ruined all her relationships and takes no accountability

I finally realized not only was my sister "faking nice" she truly believed everybody else was faking nice, too. Ryan clearly believes nothing he did was wrong. They just can't see anything from the outside; it's all through the lens of themselves, their wants, their motives. 🤷

People confuse people with Substance Use Disorders with Narcissists, often. There are some similar behaviors, but the underlying disorder is not the same. I’m in the treatment field. Addiction is not an indicator of ASPD. I think Tatum believes what she says about her upbringing because she’s telling the truth, from her perspective. She has never claimed she was addicted at 9-11, not in either of her books, and has said she was 18+, consistently (see Wendy Williams’ interview, for one). In Ryan’s day, people didn’t talk about these topics unless things were so out of control it was undeniable. Tatum described her early influences, and subtle emotional effects that weren’t in his vocabulary. A nurturing parent doesn’t strike back, like he does here, nor do they disrespect their children. If Tatum was delusional, it would be obvious in his mercy and gentle manner.

@@sciencenotstigma9534 I think I understand you correctly, and I wonder if you think anyone here is saying Tatum is manipulative. It's Ryan we're criticizing. He doesn't seem to have been the adult in his relationships with his children. It's behavior we recognize from relationships of our own.

It does start with the family & home. I was an old school parent, held my kids responsible, respectful, they worked, bought their own cars, etc unlike my peers. Despite all that, one kid goes the other way at 17? It's not that simple but he could've set more boundaries like I did. Even at 17 I didn't tolerate BS!

The sad part is that Tatum was very careful in how she spoke about she negative aspects of her father, and he was all too willing to throw her under the bus. What’s worse that as of now, she’s STILL trying to make it work with him, in spite of a nearly fatal overdose/stroke. She said in an article as of the other day that they have met up, but he still doesn’t return her calls. She needs to let him go and focus on her recovery from her ailments/addictions. When Tatum tried to slit her wrists. Ryan told her “you did it the wrong way.” Rather than get her psychological help and ask about her general well being. Ryan in several of his interviews has shown a lack of self control along with a lack of parental responsibility. Farrah loved Tatum and vice versa. Farrah very easily could have had a predisposition via her dna and family history. Nothing Tatum or her siblings did were responsible for Farrah’s predisposition to hereditary disease.

His comment about having a DNA test done really hit home. My dad once said "maybe he's not mine" when referring to my brother, and, periodically, asks if my brother has submitted the DNA test kit I sent to him (...I bought one for each of us to find the extent of our European background). That is just as insulting to my late mom as it is to my brother. I have, repeatedly told my dad that the results would be the same as mine anyway (...which I submitted several years ago). Dad has also said (of my brother)..."maybe he'll die" and, when I push him to say something nice to my brother (...like..."I'm proud of you"), Dad's response is "why?". Not once in my brother's 66 years has my dad told him he is proud of him...it's heartbreaking!! My brother is very talented (...a great cook and painter) and Mensa-level-intelligent, and Dad seems to be jealous of him, even though he (Dad) is as intelligent and talented. Dad has said "people say he (my brother) is a good cook...I don't see it"; "people say he's intelligent...I don't see it", and on, and on. Yes, my brother has dabbled in drugs (mostly just grass), and hasn't been particularly successful financially, but instead of boosting my brother's morale by saying something nice to him, Dad would rather dismiss him. He's embarrassed by my brother's presence and doesn't see the connection with his lack of attention AT ALL. Dad has been a good provider, and we always had a home, meals, and material things. He, along with my mom, taught us to be responsible, safety-conscious, creative, caring people (the 'caring' part was more Mom), so it's confusing to hear what he says about my brother, and I feel cruddy if and/or when I reveal stuff (as mentioned above)...but it isn't fair to take his insecurities out on my brother. My relatives think my dad is so lovely, while putting my brother down as a loser...not realizing my dad puts them down when they aren't around. It's unnerving and sad.

Judith Fabian, That's really sad but I'm going to tell you it's even worst, over trillions times worst when the Creator, God that created and treated me to go to Hell and be eternally separated from him and especially when I did everything to please him. That's what's trillions times worst. I begged, pleaded, cried and wailed before God/JESUS CHRIST to Love me but he refused to come live inside of me.

Yes, Ryan is clearly emotionally abusive. I don’t care what happened…you don’t condemn your kidspublicly. Based on his behavior since Tatum wrote an entire book forgiving and expressing love and understanding of him, I think she deserves better, too. She has not said a negative thing about him in years. If he’s ego driven enough to trash his kids on TV now, I’m sure they went through a lot with him, growing up.

Farrah’s story mimics Jill Ireland’s. Both were more afraid of what chemo would do and HOW THEIR HUSBANDS WOULD REACT TO THE SIDE AFFECTS. Farrah, trying to save her hair, put off life saving intervention. Jill Ireland, battling breast cancer was afraid Charles Bronson wouldn’t ‘see me as a sexy woman anymore.’ Then there is the lovely husband of Anne Jillian who also hesitated having a mastectomy, but he said ‘Your breasts are now bullets aimed right at your heart. YOU are who I want to save, not the bullets.’ It’s easy to see in retrospect how the women SHOULD HAVE HAD BETTER SUPPORT AROUND THEM, and Anne is still with us and Jill and Farrah are not. Instead of facing his blinding narcissism, it becomes his children’s fault. No way I believe Farrah turned to HIS CHILDREN for advice, certainly both women KNEW what mattered most to their husbands……which is incredibly sad.

The basis for the program is how these long term assaults on our systems affect our physical health. I had to wait 3 years to get in and it was totally worth it.

I'd tell Tatum right now the she didn't have nothing to do with it and it wasn't her fault .

Its literally all about him!! He isn’t a loving father. Those kids should stop yearning for it and let go.

Why did Tatum have to live with Cher when she was young? Ryan lies.

Cher took her in?? I didn't know that.I love her even more now.

ScattySafari 😀👍 Yep. She sure did. Tatum says in the course of that time she instigated drama between Cher and Raquel Welch. Also, as child Chas Bono was a little envious of the relationship that Cher developed with Tatum.

I wonder what made Ryan the way he is. He's been a narcissist since he was young. It was obvious when he gave interviews

What made Ryan the way he is? Maybe cocaine which fucked up farrah fawcett.

@@trunks2705 Farrah never did drugs Ryan did drugs but you can't blame that on this behavior this is a deeper problem

It's terrible to talk about your children in that way, Ryan has to take responsibility for his children's behavior and mostly his own. No one's perfect we all make mistakes, but it's sad to give someone vision when they are so blind. He clearly has alot of anger inside. He needs to sort himself out and start showing love and respect towards his kids

Ryan O’Neal is a malignant narcissist and that shines through so clearly in this interview. I had the pleasure of knowing Tatum for a brief time when she was going through some very hard stuff and trying to pull her life back together (which she has done, beautifully). She is an inspiration. Ryan should have been kicked out of Hollywood decades ago. I liked the show “Bones” (it was good, fun fluff for those nights I just didn’t feel up anything important like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, or any of the amazing shows of the last few decades) but every time he appeared as Bone’s (Dr. Temperance Brennan) father I could barely watch and even turned it off a few times. His character abandoned Bone’s and her brother when she was a kid, which resulted in her being raised in the foster system but as an adult he gets completely forgiven and finally gets to be the great dad (and grandfather) that Bone’s always wanted. It was just so close to his real life except the character was a good guy. He is a convincing actor. Too bad he can’t (and couldn’t) act like a good father in real life, without a script!

osofine I always think of Ryan O’Neal as my parents’ generation’s Charlie Sheen. Decent, convincing actors, but can’t convince people in real life that they’re decent humans, at least not for long. I can feel sorry for people with problems, but with some people, my compassion runs out.

While I appreciate your comments about Tatum O'Neal. your comments about television show why it's called the idiot box. You seem to take television a little too seriously, tbh.

All you have to do is look at pictures of Farrah when she first got together with Ryan, and how she utterly declined. He killed her, whether he caused the cancer or not. He stole her soul, her shining light.

@Momma Bear As a child of a sociopath father and a mother who passed away at 50 years old next to him, I guarantee you this is exactly what happened. And after she passed away, I felt what she went through on my own skin. If I didnt break all contact I would have been next. And it all with barely ever touching me physically. They kill your soul literally.

She was an Angel and for whatever reason they agreed to meet here in this lifetime to work on something. I hope she can graduate from this world and not have to come back. Whitney Houston would probably still be alive with her Golden Voice if she had never met Bobby Brown. Won’t know til I get to Heaven. This world is difficult and sad with bursts of love and kindness.
