This is why if the bears were in win now mode they should have kept Justin because all your doing is putting pressure on your ROOKIE QB to win now when he’s learning how to be in the NFL
@MFBloosh
@MFBloosh Ай бұрын
That's why most of us wanted to keep Justin. It wasn't about "Caleb vs Justin", it was about the team as a whole. Fields already had an established chemistry with players like Kmet and DJ Moore. The defense finally stopped giving up 30+ PPG. Fields masked a lot of things that were wrong with our offensive line. Our run game was #1 in 2022 and #2 last season. Everything was falling into place, finishing the season out 5-3 (should've been 7-1) with Fields as the starter. Then just as we go "all in", Poles decided to hand this team to a rookie QB instead who most of us knew was going to struggle to an extent out of the gate. Again, that's not anything against Caleb, he's a rookie. But this team is done rebuilding at this point (besides O Line apparently) and we were ready to at least make a playoff push this year.

@holdwhatdoor7629
@holdwhatdoor7629 Ай бұрын
@@MFBloosh Exactly. And all the dumbasses out there saying Justin would have cost too much... Well if you trade that #1 overall pick for a haul, you get several blue chip prospect players on rookie contracts and that balances out a big QB contract and gives your team depth. They could have had MHJ and a high level Tackle, probably not Alt, but Fashanu or Fuaga would have been around. Then you have Zach Frazier at center that they probably could have gotten in the second round or trade up to get - Frazier is playing very well snapping the ball to Fields in Pittsburgh right now. Even that alone is 3 starters on rookie contracts that would have contributed THIS YEAR, and be on rookie contracts for the next 4 years. That doesn't even take into account the number of picks they could have gotten later this past years draft and the next two years.

Harrison, by my count Poles has had two shots at head coach, offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator. He is already on a short leash if their defense can’t carry them through Caleb’s rookie growing pains. You were PFF grading their O line as a top 10 line. Obviously they are not. Imo if you're scrapping a long term plan to start over, the whole regime should go. If in Green Bay Jordan Love fails, Gutekust and Lafleur should go, if in MN JJ McCarthy fails then Kwesi and OConnell should go, Bo Nix fails then Paton and Payton should go etc. Sure Fields wasn't technically his pick but he was a top QB prospect from the previous draft, it's not like he was some aging vet like Rodgers, Cousins or Wilson.

No. Not the right move. Our defense is legit, and that's Flus. Our problem is not the head coach, it's that it's really hard for a rookie QB with a middle of the pack OL to succeed when defenses stack the box and send pressure, making the QB process faster than he ever has before to beat them. Caleb looked better in game 3. As he gets more comfortable, the offense will look better, defenses won't be able to keep 8 guys near the line of scrimmage, we'll be able to run the ball better, and you'll be thankful we have him and that D. Anyone saying this has never worked before forgets how the Bills got to where they are.

I was not a supporter of letting Fields go, and I voiced that IN this thread! This could all even itself out, but it's tough watching The Steelers go 3-0 w Fields leading that team, while The Bears are struggling, AGAIN!.., STILL! That first pick could've netted us, OH, idk, MAYBE SOME OFFENSIVE LINEMEN??!! Right now, the O- line is simply offensive. And Williams is coughing the ball up regularly. Fields=1 int/2024, been sacked only 6x, no fumbles. I HATE saying 'I told you so', and I'm hoping to swallow those words soon. Cheesuz cripes!

You are 100% spot on. I hope Eberlose can get it together but doubt he will. Too laid back and not an inspiring leader. We need an aggressive, offensive coach. Shoulda hired Harbaugh. The cycle of failure will likely continue. 🤦‍♂️

I usually agree with you but I think you have to give Flus the rest of this year before you make that assessment. he did build an incredible defense and we’re only 3 games in. The fatal mistake was not properly addressing the offensive line.

Keeping Flus was a bad idea. They didn't even take a look with some good available coaching talent this year. Given that it'll be 3 times across 2 regimes, it makes me wonder if that decision comes from higher up. I heard a rumor that Pace wanted to fire Fox in 2017 but was told not to by the Bears brass, who are clueless on football. I could see that as being a directive from George, aka the owner who is afraid of cursing on hard knocks

I wish we had the #1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Then traded down with Washington for 3 1st round draft picks they were offering. Drafted Jayden Daniels, like I would've wanted. He's having a great start to the season. And with less talent than are Bears have. But hey...we drafted Caleb Williams!! I hear he's the next Patrick Mahomes. 🙄

Or we could've just kept Justin who just needed a decent defense, with the evidence being the 2nd half of last season as well as him being 3-0 with the Steelers.

National host Mike Greenberg (who is a Jets and a Bears fan as he met his wife in Chicago) ripped Ryan Poles yesterday with a well orchestrated oral presentation on the Waddle & Silva show. Silva, a Bears organization bootlicker kept shaking his head. However, Greenberg's delivery was spot on...he literally called Poles completely inept, incompetent, and a newbie thinking he was the right guy to build the Bears. Instead, Poles receive a carved out rear-end hole.

Yes it was a mistake! Poles had the chance to pair a "generational" QB1 with a new HC and align their timeline. But like a perpetual cycle, they chose to waste potentially 1-2 years of QB1 development only to change coaching staff again which he coulc have done in the offseason when they knew they are drafting Caleb. But remember, Poles will not admit it but George and Ted did the interview with Flus way before they hire him as a GM and most likely gave him a list with one name in it to hire as a HC. Guess who was the adviser the organization hired to help them hire a new HC, none other than Flus's buddy from the colts Polian. Flus will stick around unless they win less than 7-8 wins and injures their QB1.

The only guy that should get fired and needs to get fired is the offensive line coach. Eberflus isn’t going anywhere I can almost guarantee that. they made a commitment to Eberflus when they kept them around. And as far as Shane Waldron, you have to give that guy a little bit of time one of the key elements of a winning franchise is continuity.
