An example of "art imitates life" is Madeline Kahn's character monologue. She tries to talk down to a child, tries to bribe a child, tries to be bossy, nothing works until she shows some respect and treats her like an equal. What a fine actress was Ms. Kahn, that 3 minutes of film is a master class. Comedy and pathos.

I read that the Academy refused to have a 10 year old in the Best Actress category. In 1973/74 Best Actress was still "glamorous."

One of my favorite movies OF.ALL.TIME. Years later when I became aware of what a crappy human being Ryan O'Neal could be at times, I realized just what great actors both of these people were!!! Sidenote: I wish the woman coughing near the front would take a f**king lozenge already -- she's getting on my last nerve.

He treated her like crap. He was totally not supportive. What she's saying is totally different from her later interviews It's a shame because it's a beautiful movie. Tatum was every bit as lonely as Addie and longed to be with her dad...

@sharonanne116 When she talks about Madeline's character being her nemesis because she was the girlfriend and that "Addie" wanted her away from her father, I couldn't help but think of Farrah. Another scenario from the movie that seemed to play out for them in real life. Very ironic. So sad that it seems Ryan was jealous of her winning that Oscar. And she gave it to him because he needed it more. She absolutely adores him still. I hope they can work out their relationship once and for all.

In her autobiography she said that Ryan punched her in the face when they found out she was nominated. She didnt bring that up. Paper Moon is my favorite movie of all time and the whole theme of a little girl trying to be like her dad so he will love her (and actually becoming a better con artist than him in the process) was so like their real experience that it seems ironic and heartbreaking. I love love love Tatum O'Neal. Much peace and respect to her.

Tatum was such a cutie in that movie, I love how she talked and act. I'm not a boy, I'm a girl! The best part was her argument in the restaurant about her two hundred dollars. I still watch it.

Thank you for putting this up!!! It makes me so happy to see them like this. I'll say this about Ryan O'Neal: he knows how to tell a story! So does Tatum. This is in my absolute top echelon of favorite movies. The Bogdonovich audio commentary from the DVD is incredible; you know how some commentary tracks suck, and some are great? This one is incredible, he's clearly watching the movie along with you and commenting on everything, every moment, it's really worth tracking down, fans of "Paper Moon".
