Its just me It kills me that the mayor of Kokomo, IN had the gall to proclaim that his town was "portrayed unfairly" in the TV movie. Let's see, Ryan had to quit his paper route because the subscribers on his route cancelled their subscriptions because they, "didn't want him giving them AIDS." When he won his court battle and was able to return to school, literally half the students were held out of school by their parents. He was routinely told, "WE KNOW YOU'RE QUEER!!!" by his neighbors and other passersby. And, some maniac tried to kill him by firing a bullet through the front window of the family home. The family relocated because they were not safe there any longer.

@@Etienne_H I really don't think it's the questions that are the issue, but rather the delivery. I have *NEVER* liked Katie Couric as a journalist doing an interview like this. She was much better as an anchor. The way her voice just digs when she asks a question of a vulnerable person is what makes it feel like she's asking "stupid questions." Don't get me wrong, I love Katie Couric as a journalist, especially as an anchor, but not in this capacity.
@sefa91325 жыл бұрын
It was the way in which she stated or asked the question. To me it just does not come across as sincere, only in the capacity of trying to get a reaction. I guess this is why her show failed.

@@sefa9132 She was always that way, even back when she was on the Today Show. She was great as an anchor, but not doing interviews, especially when they involved emotional situations. As you said it, she never came across as sincere, she comes across like she's only trying to take advantage of a person in their time of need, and just digs in like a vicious pit bull that won't let go. She should have stuck to positive themes on her show, it probably would have gone very well for her.

When Ryan was fighting this disease, he had a good outlook on life and that’s why he survived 5 years with it. My mom was diagnosed with MS in 2006 and doctors told her that she would be in a wheelchair in a few months and her response was no don’t have time for that and I can’t because I am a mother and my kids need me. She went into remission for 8 years but she had a relapse in 2022 and she is still having a good outlook on life. 38 years later ... time flies. No more stigma that made so many ostracize you. Such misery caused to so many - such ignorance !! Ryan had a lot of the "crème de la creme" on his side - Sir Elton etc etc. RIP amongst the other stars Freddie and Rock and any other person that fought that battle - to me you are ALL stars. Rest now all of you, rest

I followed the Ryan White story since it broke media in the 80s. I lost a daughter 12 years ago and I always say the same thing, it never becomes easier you just learn to live with it. It hurts every single day. RIP Ryan

I was 8 when he passed. Even then, I cried when they first aired his movie on tv and now, with a 6yo son, I've cried again when I saw that it's on Netflix.

😅 I will always remember the time Jeanne White hosted a Christmas celebration for the patrons of the Damian Center in honor of Ryan. Jeanne was a wonderful hostess and a very compassionate human being. Ryan's story gave my husband hope to live out his remaining time in peace and dignity. ❤
