The COVID-19 outbreak prevented any new episodes of Countdown being recorded, leading the programme was to be suspended for 100 days. In its place, reruns of the 30th Birthday Championship and Championship of Champions XVI and XV were repeated.
*When the show returned from the COVID-19 hiatus on Monday 10th August, the studio lighting saw the clock face have more of a blue tint from the spotlight that shines onto it from beneath, while the desk appeared relatively darker than normal. Despite the design of the set itself being the same as 2017, there is-what I would consider-a significant difference to the studio lighting than usual portrayed in this video (the blue tint in particular), which is something I enjoy looking out for when watching the show to then include in my uploads.

I've always referred to the left side background as the 'calm' wall. It hasn't been in the clock shot since June, however, as they've been switched around.

I'd never realized, until seeing the clock isolated like this, that the music and clock aren't in sync! The music has 32 ticks instead of 30! That's gonna bug me now...

Haha. What might bug you more is that the clock sequence itself is *seemingly* sped up slightly - to approximately 29.5 seconds - to facilitate the 'boom' note sounding as the 30th light illuminates.

@@AdamBeachDesign Lol, I noticed that too but I don't think that would bother me so much. On its own I don't think that'd cause a noticeable desync - if there were the right number of ticks they'd still seem to be pretty much in time.

Almost like the clock intro to the schools' programmes on TV during the 1970s when the school's 'big' 28" square 4:3 ratio TV was wheeled on a cart into the classroom. We boys, being boys; cocked our right hands into the shape of a pistol and shot down the disappearing segments as the seconds progressed to watching Picture Box with its unearthly and somewhat eerie theme 🎵Manège🎵 by Jacques Lazry.

@@JayLS Thanks Jay! The letters were terrible again today, but both Rachael and I absolutely loved playing against each other and it was a phenomenal day out. Just sitting in front of that clock and winning a teapot was enough for me! The team were astounding, and not getting a grilling from Anne was a relief in itself. 🤣 Not sure if you're on Facebook, but that Countdowners group that I plugged is there if you'd like to join. Some people join as anonymous accounts as well if they don't feel comfortable outing themselves, which you're more than welcome to do. :)

I did right? 😂 We hit it off right from the get-go and we had a few nice little interludes, some of which were sadly edited out. It is nice seeing her be friendly to people now. It was plugged at Christmas and the member numbers rocketed after that, and they have today after my plug haha. You should join us - there will be a lot of people keen to see your work!

I think they did when the clock had to be replaced in 2013; the hand on the original clock (as far as I'm aware, the mechanism was completely original from 1982) started leaning over to the left and it was also lit with incandescent lights rather than LED, making it more expensive to run and maintain

It used to but since they brought the new clock in, it's reset backwards.

@@AutoUnder That's not quite right. Towards the end of the original's TV life, the hand started to overshoot the 30 second mark. To counteract this, the technicians repositioned the hand just shy of the zero mark, in order that at the end of the Countdown, the hand would stop at the 30 point. The mechanism was given a few tweaks over the years, and the original clock could spin forwards, backwards at various speeds.

@@harribo2005x not sure when it will be; the team have left it for me to decide when I want to go down. I've already had the audition, passed, and was initially meant to go and record in February last year but, typical, it was the ONE day it snowed so we couldn't make it down to the studio. Then I was supposed to go the month after, however the recordings were obviously put on hold because of the pandemic. My advice is to just keep practicing. Even if you're not good with the letters, still give it a go! It's something to experience and I'm sure you would thoroughly enjoy it. I don't have Discord unfortunately. Never really been associated with the gaming world.
