I’ve always been interested in scoring a deer by water displacement. Wouldn’t account for spread but it would more accurately measure exactly how much bone a deer has on his head. However I do enjoy scoring deer, but I think it would be interesting to see the difference.

I looked at a Boone and Crocket guide, and it talked about tip and widest spread. How do they add in?

Those measurements are recorded for interest’s sake only, they aren’t added into the score. Only spread credit counted is inside spread. I think they put that on the scoresheet just so people can look it over and get an idea of the character of the rack.

Question - I have a double browtine beam is the same but has 2 points about 2 inch’s each both sides , do I measure the beams twice or just once and add just the to of the 2nd time above the beam after it splits ?

So I have a question, I have a rack that the g3 has another tine growing of it, how do I score it ?

That tine growing out of the g3 is an abnormal point. In the Boone and Crockett system it would be deducted from your gross typical score to get the net typical score, along with all the differences from one side to the other. If you just want to tell your friends what the gross score is, measure the tine from where it leaves the g3 and just add it to the score. “If the deer grew it, it counts” is a common sentiment

Your H4 measurement IS NOT 2¼ it's 2²/8 😂 you should have caught that. My question is nobody ever tells how to score a spike, 4 point or 6 point. It's always 8 or more. Do you only take 1 mass score on a spike? 2 on a 4 point? 3 on a 6?

The B&C and P&Y Scoring Methods ARE Outdated... The Calculated Deductions are STUPID!!! A Better Method for scoring and then subtracting deductions would be to total up the score for each antler and then subtract the difference between the two antlers!!! Example: The Right Antler has a Total Score of 83-6/8, while the Left Antler has a Total Score of 79-4/8. Subtract 79-4/8 from 83-6/8, that gives you a Total Deduction of only 4-2/8. The above score before deductions would be: 163-2/8. The score after my deduction formula would be: 159-0/8... A whole Hell a lot better than the current B&C/P&Y Scoring Methods!!! Of course, a lot of people don't use the B&C or P&Y Scoring Methods anymore... They prefer using the Buck-Masters/Safari Club International Scoring Method of EVERY Scoring Inch IS Counted!!! PS, the rack you just scored would measure 129-0/8 with my NEW Scoring Method, as you only had a difference in the antler measurements of 1-2/8 inches... a Much Better, and More Fair Measurement IMHO!!!

Lol. Are you suggesting to make little asymmetrical bucks score higher? 😂 I'm gonna go check the Jackie Bushman method on mine. As long as everyone is using the same method what's the difference? Little bucks are still going to be little. The higher number won't matter because everyone else's will be higher as well, so your 2½ year old 8 point will still be small!!!

@@PaulOgie: Try to keep up!!! Both B&C and P&Y are OUTDATED, deduction wise!!! My system just deducts the total difference between the antlers. If one side scores 87 and the other side scores 83 for a total of 170 (that's pretty symmetrical), my deduction is only four inches for a total score of 166. Both B&C and P&Y may have deductions of 10-12 inches, because you may have an 11-inch G-2 on one side, and an 8-inch G-2 two on the other side (that's three inches worth of deductions right there), and the other deductions add up during the entire scoring process. Buckmasters and SCI award you every scorable inch regardless of if it's a Typical or Non-Typical Animal!
