I picked back up the guitar during Covid and tried reliving my college days....would NEVER have been able to do it without these videos. The clear expertise coupled with the LOL type fun has got me playing Foo, Coldplay, PJ (of course) and some others. Just wanted to say thank you Ryan Lendt!

This definitely sounds like the recording. Always played it in normal tuning but now that I see it and went back to listen, you can clearly hear the openness of the chords. I think you got it right.

Ryan - You nailed it man! This is one of my top 5 PJ songs, and I’ve been trying for years to crack this one. I love using Low Light to warm up. Plenty of vids out there, but those players are in standard tuning and not changing time signature (no different from how I played it). But their versions never sounded “right”, and the song seems deceitfully simple. Lol! Since Stone and Mike started experimenting more with non-standard tuning as early as the Yield album (look up how people play Given to Fly, it’s a cringe hearing it in standard E tuning), I suspected DADGAD or something similar might be what was missing . I’ve watched in person and DVDs (they don’t play this one often), and Stone had his back to us most of the time, or there wasn’t a solid shot of his left hand. Thanks man for putting in the time, effort and patience to capture the “how” of this great song. You earned a subscriber and I’m going to enjoy playing it even more!

Great job that sounds spot on to my ears. However your original “campfire version” will always have a special place. It’s probably the 1st PJ song I learned front to back and it typically is part of my warm up. In fact Niki seems to get a little cranky if she doesn’t play Low Light v1 on a regular basis. I’ll be adding this one to the fun tuning list, probably for transitioning in or out of Nothing as it Seems and Given to Fly.
@RyanLendt5 жыл бұрын
that would be a good flow tuning wise! Low light - GTF - Nothing As it seems, you'll put yourself progressively into open D!

8/27/19. Tuning for this song: E A D G A(down 2 notes) D(down 2 notes)....At 10:10 you say tuning is DADGAD without the low D, so this tuning is EADGAD.... Take Care, Ryan.

I would never have guessed this in a million years, well done! :) Possibly in a million plus one years, but who knows.. I love Low Light. Makes me wish my yoinky and zing fingers worked. I don't mean to rush you or anything, you should always do whatever song you feel like doing on whatever day. But did you get a chance to look at that Head Down tab I sent you? It's one of the few songs I've taught myself (almost) completely by ear, so I'm just curious if you had any feedback :)
@RyanLendt5 жыл бұрын
No I have not... I have dutifully left it unread as a reindeer to do head down the very next time it seems prudent! Don't worry, it will seem prudent soon :)

I feel like this isn’t right Ryan .. I’ve always played it as a G shape , and just moved around my root... for the chorus playing D, Em, C then G .. no funky tubings . Maybe I’m wrong but it sounds more correct than this .
@RyanLendt5 жыл бұрын
I put out a video to that exact effect wayyyy back in the early days, because I thought so too. :) (that video is still up) Ignore mike's guitar in the yield recording (he's in standard tuning and plays a regular G), and focus on the left guitar, the acoustic guitar, and you will hear the open (now) A and D strings

This video gives a great angle of Stone: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGrHeK2Mg7uXrdU Looks like almost everything is correct. He does seem to be playing the 2nd "C" chord as you demonstrated (Eopen, A3, D2, Gopen, A(B)open, B(E)open) during "wind rolls by"

How very odd that a Jeff song uses a strange tuning and simple shapes. Totally unlike him (I love when he writes on a guitar)
