I passed both FRM exams in a year and at least one genius in my MSFE program wrote both parts of the FRM in ONE DAY. They also said the CFA L1 took more time than FRM part 1&2. I wrote the CFA L1 in August and 100% agree with that assessment.

As someone who has worked in financial accounting (decision support, acquisitions), treasury (liquidity management, wholesale funding planning) and in risk for the last 7 years (regulatory ICAAP, ILAAP, recovery planning and credit analytics) I think risk is the most demanding. The demands in facing off to and keeping bank regulators happy are onerous.

Hello, just because you are not good at accounting does not mean you would fail the CFA. There is an accounting heavy section in Level 1 which is called Financial Statement Analysis. That is only like 15% of the test. Then for level 2, that section is somewhere between 10% and 15% of the test. There is no accounting on CFA Level 3. So it will hurt you but it won't stop you

Hello Stoica, I would not recommend getting the CFA to manage your own money. It is, in my opinion, too much just to manage your own money. I think the biggest value it has is as a brand that makes you more valuable to clients/employers. For managing your own money you may find the time better spent reading investing books that interest you. As for FRM, I would just dive straight into the FRM study material and not read any other books if you are going for the FRM

@RyanOConnellCFA
@RyanOConnellCFA Жыл бұрын
Hey man, sorry to hear that you have that on your record. Some areas of finance will likely be harder to find a job in with felonies. I think banking is one where a lot of banks just will flat out not hire anyone with a felony. So you may need to target less regulated areas. Small firms, startups, or small family offices could have more lax hiring policies. Also one thing to consider would be operating independently in a freelance type of way like I do. Not one of my clients has ever tried to run a background check on me and no one even asks me about felonies. However, you have to get your skills to a pretty advanced level to get people to hire you in that capacity. Overall, I'd say your best bet is to work your ass off and develop skills that go beyond most people in the field. If you are good enough, you will find someone willing to hire you despite the record

How long do you have to take these exams once you start taking the exams? Also, are these state based when it comes to renewal?
@RyanOConnellCFA
@RyanOConnellCFA 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Ryan, the CFA is international so once you've got the charter you just pay like $300 per year and you could move anywhere in the world and still have it. I believe they allow two attempts per year at each level. If you pass a level, I believe you can sign up for the earliest exam window for the next level if you'd like which would be 4 to 6 months in the future
@ryanr8121
@ryanr8121 2 жыл бұрын
@@RyanOConnellCFA so once you've had two attempts and cannot pass it, you automatically are barred from taking it again, or do you think you just have to wait a certain amount of time before attempting again? Can you just stop at one and get one certification, or have to complete all three in order to have a CFA license?
@RyanOConnellCFA
@RyanOConnellCFA 2 жыл бұрын
@@ryanr8121 No, you aren't barred from taking it again, I know a lot of people who took 3 or 4 attempts to pass a single level. You'd just have to wait until the next year to take it again. You could put "Passed CFA Level 1" on your resume if you want but no one that I know would really value that. Its kind of an all or nothing certification

Hi Ryan. Very interesting take on the personality. 1) Do you familliar with MBTI? if so, do you consider yourself as intuitive or sensing type? 2) Do you agree that Financial Risk analyst more suitable for sensing type while Fixed income Analyst is more suitable for intuitive type?
@RyanOConnellCFA

Hello! I took the MBTI test a while back and got INTP, so intuitive. I think both intuitive and sensing types of people could do well in both of those roles. I think the more important personality trait would be thinking vs feeling. These are definitely more "Thinking" types of roles in my opinion

@RyanOConnellCFA
@RyanOConnellCFA Жыл бұрын
Hello Emmanuel! It's never too late to pursue further education, and the value of CFA/FRM qualifications depends on your individual goals and circumstances. At 41, you still have plenty of time to advance your career, and these certifications could potentially open up new opportunities for you. Consider factors such as your current role, industry, and future aspirations to determine if obtaining a CFA/FRM will be beneficial. Remember, investing in yourself is always a worthwhile endeavor!

“Slightly” 😂😂😂 I’ve just written my CFA level 3. FRM part 1 and 2 both take less time than any of the CFA Levels, I would say that it’s 1 month less studying with the same intensity, but the difference is that if you study enough time you will pass the FRM. If you study the required amount for the CFA exams, you won’t necessarily pass.
