I've got an MSF. Studying for my CFA 1 now , to be taken on November 16th, 2021. Here's what I have to say ; I suggest people who can should get an MSF first. That makes the study material for the CFA pretty understandable, because what you are studying, you've already learned in the MSF program.

I'm debating on an MBA with a concentration in Finance vs a Masters in Finance. I have my BA in Busines Admin with a focus in Finance, but I honestly feel like I didn't learn a lot... like they teach you a little about every business topic, but you essentially become a jack of all trades and a master of none. And because of that, you quickly forget what little you learned. I feel like focusing entirely on Finance would be more beneficial.

That is a very big decision. Specialization can really pay off. I've heard MBAs are typically valued higher by companies than MSFs but MSFs are typically cheaper and quicker (less credit hours). You can't go wrong either way but it is a tough choice

Thank you, Ryan, for breaking things down in a simple way. I cleared my CFA level 3 in August 2022 and working as a Wealth Analyst in a Private Wealth Management firm in India (complete a year in December). I understand the rigour that CFA involved might not be comparable to the Master's degree, but I am looking to diversify my profile to engage in programs internationally and having a hard time choosing one of them (Masters in Finance, MSFA ). It would be great if you could share your perspective on it and how I should proceed. Thanks!

My pleasure! If you already have a CFA, then I think you would need a really prestigious MSF to boost your resume beyond the CFA. You'd likely need to find a top global program. Thank you! Please take my answer with a grain of salt as I have only done an MSF and not an MBA in Finance. I would think that an MSF would go into greater depth for specific finance concepts as it is dedicated almost solely to this subject. Where as an MBA with a specialization in finance would have courses related to all areas of business (marketing, managing, information systems, supply chain, etc). So an MBA would likely be better if you're hoping to rise to a managerial role

So knowing how to automate things in VBA has been very useful. Most people are more familiar with Excel than python for example so they won't understand it if you send them python code. And if your VBA code works properly, they dont even need to understand how it works. 2. SQL - A lot of finance jobs require you to manage and manipulate databases. I’m going to Uni of Rochester for my MSF in August! Was thinking of also getting my CFA afterwards. Would you recommend getting both?
@RyanOConnellCFA
@RyanOConnellCFA 3 жыл бұрын
It certainly can't hurt to get both but it is a ton of work. To be honest, if you get the CFA, it will have covered just about everything in the masters degree and much more, making the masters degree somewhat pointless

@@RyanOConnellCFA a Canadian here...just spoke to a director at Rotman business school (university of Toronto). He mentioned the Rotman MSF (MFin) goes way beyond the CFA.

@@JCANPetros I would not be surprised by that at all considering it is one of the top-ranked MSF programs in the world. I'd think a hand full of those top-ranked MSF programs would hold more weight with employers than the CFA

@@RyanOConnellCFA the CFA here in Canada does hold a lot of prestige as well and some employers may value it more. It’s just that the top two business schools here Schulich and Rotman, ensures that you can earn you CFA while completing the MSF. That’s a selling feature for them. In fact the Schulich MSF will not only help u earn the CFA but takes u 70% GARP. Plus MSF here is heavily research base, which is a plus if you want to work for central bank or become a professor/ academic

@@JCANPetros Wow, I hope you're able to get into that program! I've heard that there is an insane number of people in Toronto with the CFA to point that it's value is totally diluted there. Would you say that is pretty accurate?

Thank you for your useful video. To make money, I had trouble choosing between two decisions, please help. Work in the Forex market and gain experience and income and be independent. Or continue my education in finance or cfa and get a job. Which way is more profitable. Is it possible to earn money independently by getting a cfa degree without being hired? Please make a video about earning money in Forex market. Thank you

I think the CFA is a lot more useful if you're looking to get hired by someone else rather than work for yourself. Probably the most lucrative route would be to get the CFA and then go work for a financial institution. Working by yourself in forex has a much higher probability of not earning as much money as the path above. Sorry, I cannot make videos about earning money in forex as it isnt something I've done or plan to do so I can't honestly represent myself as an expert on the topic

@@RyanOConnellCFA Thank you very much and I am glad that you answered my question. This is how I understood. Forex is not a way for me to spend my time and to earn more, I have to get my cfa degree. And then get hired. But I've heard a lot of advertisements from people who have quit their jobs and become self-employed in the Forex market. Thanks anyway

For someone who has no background in finance is it advisable to do a cfa or msf
@RyanOConnellCFA
@RyanOConnellCFA 3 жыл бұрын
That depends on a few things. Most important (in my opinion) are the quality of school you can get into and your personal financial situation. If you don't get accepted into a top program then I'd say CFA. Also, if you can't afford to take a year or two off work (or don't want to go deep into debt) and dont want to pay steep tuition, then again I'd say CFA. If you're in a situation where you get into a top school and can take a year to do the program then the MSF would be worth it

i watched your video and would like to get your opinion on a matter I finished my double degree in finance and economics but I don't know if I should study master's degree in economics and start with my CFA program or study master's in finance and then take the CFA. pointing out that I will probably work as a financial analyst or a financial advisor. thank you
