Temple Grandin says that there are 2 systems in a horse that are like a light switch. One is fear, and the other is curiosity. They can't be turned on at the same time. Hence the do not knock the curiosity out of a colt quote. Nice to see your horse being so curious about the environment.

A PERFECT demo of a horse who realizes, although she might not know the reason for the human's request, she fully trusts and believes that its a fair deal, and who knows and believes it will always be a fair deal and whose natural curiosity has been encouraged and rewarded AND she will be safe. Well well done.

I am fascinated by Ryan's response to Marley! Not being in the horse world at all but watching your videos you seem to be so confident with the horses you train. Yet Marley surprised you. Somehow she didn't surprise me at all. She really seems curious and a horse that wants to please her person. I really enjoy your content

I have been watching your videos for a while and have been delighted by your work with horses, but this video of Marley has confirmed to me that you are an amazing horseman Ryan! I haven't had a horse for about 45 years (wow, almost half a century) but I wish I did because I would love to do the things you do. Amazing job with your mustang mare! Congratulations on a job very well done!!!

I wonder if Marley being a mustang has given her a natural affinity and understanding of water. Wild horses obviously aren't drinking from a bucket or trough and being scared of puddles, streams, etc just isn't a luxury they have in nature.

So cool seeing such a confident, curious horse. She must really trust that you wouldn't put her in danger
@juliebless71193 күн бұрын
I'd sure cash in on her "I'm a fearless mare and not afraid to tackle this, move it out of my way, whatever" attitude. I felt like the obstacles actually made her happy, gave her a purpose and let her be the winner in each situation. She has challenged you and made you earn her respect and trust. I think the sky is limit as far as getting her to be a reliable, steady, confident partner in the ride she is on.

I’ve heard before that mustangs typically have an easier time with water obstacles then domestics, and I assume it’s because they encounter more water crossing than domestics do, but I’m still so impressed with her approach! Your trail class is going to be awesome to watch.

Awh Marley ❤❤❤ You go girl!!! You must be so proud of her Ryan. Every time I see a video of Marley she impresses me so much. She reminds me more of my girl each time I see her. Marley is a lot braver with the obstacles but Maggie really tries, she has the curiosity and want to do it, and willing to please. She always offers to do things she knows well, a bit like Marley wanting to go through the car wash after her 1st time . Such a smart and intelligent girl Marley.❤❤❤ I've learnt so much watching Marley's journey.

Ryan, I smiled and laughed with joy throughout this entire video! I agree with Kimberlieblair that Marley looks like she was having fun, lol! Wow! She absolutely blew me away! I cannot wait to see what she will be doing with you at the competition (I’ll have to wait for the video-unfortunately cannot make that trip but have my team Marley Sweatshirt and will be there in spirit!). Watching Marley from the beginning of her journey with you on Patreon (fantastic series folks, if you haven’t seen it ), and then seeing her try all these obstacles with you, well, I couldn’t help but feel so proud of her! You have done such an incredible job with her Ryan!!! So fun to see her sense of curiosity now combined with confidence, due to your nurturing and training experience. You have definitely earned her trust (boy she sure made you work for it -what a tough cookie!) I love her! Thank you for sharing your work and this heartwarming story of Marvelous Marley!

I was working as a show rider for 20 years and I also have been practising mounted archery, most of the time alone on the track. So I am used to have 1 or 0 hands on the rein and opening gates, grabbing arrows and weapons when I was on the saddle.

Many years ago I raised a horse on top of a bluff. On our very first trail ride, we went off the bluff into a valley where there was a tiny creek about 2 feet across and an inch deep. She "noped" it, and I had to send her back to the barn by herself and ride double with a little girl. I was the only guide on the trip. She beat us back to the barn.

We also have sometimes floods (we are living close to sea in Finland) and had also twice water in the stable and there has not been any troubje to take horses out in the morning. If there is a little water on the ground it can be much more difficult to ask the horses to step in, paradoxically.
